In this episode, Caroline thought she was pregnant. She was very excited and told Charles she knew she was having a boy. But when she went to see Doc Baker, she found out that she was going through "the change" which of course meant she could never have any more babies.

They got talking, and Charles found out that Nancy had actually never known her mother, that she'd died when Nancy was a baby. Nancy had weaseled her way out of doing dishes and working in the kitchen by saying that it reminded her of being in the kitchen with her mother, and that it made her too sad to think of that.
