"A&E Biography: All My Children" Quiz

Soap actress Linda Dano, who has played characters on "Another World", "All My Children," "General Hospital", and "One Life to Live" narrated this episode of A&E's "Biography" show on "All My Children." There was a brief interview with the costume designer at "All My Children" and he was seen shopping at Sak's in Manhattan. Since the episode that we saw being filmed involved Erica having a dinner date with her fiancé, Chris Stamp, he went looking for a dress for Lucci to wear for the filming.

He selected a Dolce dress and Lucci went in for a fitting and it fit perfectly. Lucci was seen in the dress on the episode.

Judy Blye Wilson, the "AMC" casting director, was interviewed and discussed what went into casting a role. She said how the public believes that a beautiful person should be on a soap but it took skill and having the acting chops to be on "AMC." She reiterated how it was a fast paced medium and the actors and actresses wanting to be on the show had to be quick on their feet.

She talked about casting for a new character named Dee but it turned out that the character of Dee never made it to Pine Valley and nobody got the part.

In the final screen test, the two actresses who wanted the role screen tested with Michael E. Knight (Tad).

Lucci remembered some of Erica's earliest husbands, which included her very first walk down the aisle with Jeff Martin. Lucci remarked that she recalled how Erica and Jeff crossed the state lines and got married in a snow storm. There were also scenes of Erica with two other previous ex-husbands, Tom Cudahy and Adam Chandler.

In the mid 1990s, soap operas, including "All My Children", were preempted for many days due to the highly publicized O.J. Simpson trial. Once the trial concluded, soap ratings dropped drastically and the soaps no longer had the audiences they once did. Lynn Leahey discussed what happened and how the networks understand they do not have as many viewers anymore so they would continue to find new ways to keep viewers interested.

At the beginning of the episode, we saw a meeting between the writers, "AMC" executive producer Jean Dadario Burke, and with interim ABC Daytime President, Felicia Minei Behr, to discuss upcoming stories and that particular episode. Culliton talked about how he wanted to do a story where Erica, during a dinner date with Chris, recalled the night of her rape at age 14. Chris would not show up and it would trigger the memories of her father not showing up the night she was raped when she celebrated her 14th birthday. Felicia Minei Behr, who voiced approval of the story via phone, is no stranger to "AMC." She was the show's executive producer from 1989 to 1996.

Walt Willey, who played Jack, discussed briefly about how films may get four pages of script filmed in a day whereas "AMC" filmed 260 episodes a year with many pages of dialogue per episode. He put out there to get fans to understand the enormity of the work involved in soap operas. In the "AMC" episode being filmed for this special, Jack was seen arguing with David.
