"AMC" at the 'Soap Opera Digest Awards': Part 2 Quiz

The second annual "Soap Opera Digest Awards" featured numerous nominees in the Outstanding Contribution by an Actor/Actress to Daytime Drama field, two of which were from "All My Children": Susan Lucci (Erica) and Ruth Warrick (Phoebe). "AMC" had a nice roster of talented women from their golden era in the 1980s with Kathleen Noone winning over fans and critics alike in the mid 1980s as Ellen came to grips with her husband's cocaine addiction. This rightfully earned her a nomination at the 1987 Soap Opera Digest Awards ceremony in the Outstanding Supporting Actress field but resulted in a loss to Anna Lee from "General Hospital".

Other nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actress that year were Marj Dusay from "Capitol", Maeve Kinkead from "Guiding Light" and Tricia Cast from "The Young and the Restless".

Answer: Louis Edmonds (Langley)

"All My Children" always rose above the generalized melancholy platform stereotyping soap operas by offering a nice dose of humor to compliment its achievable dramatic serialization. One of its finest comedic actors was Louis Edmonds (Langley) who solidified this stature via an honor at the Soap Opera Digest Awards broadcast in 1989.

However, Edmonds could not best Stephen Schnetzer from "Another World". Other nominees in the Outstanding Comedic Performance by a Daytime Actor field that year were Stuart Damon of "General Hospital", David Lewis of "General Hospital" and Michael O'Leary from "Guiding Light".

"All My Children" got a number of nominations in 1990 with one of its honorees being Rosa Nevin, who played the quirky yet lovable Cecily Davidson. Unfortunately, Nevin lost to Robin Mattson of "Santa Barbara". Other nominees in the Outstanding Comic Actress category that year were Elizabeth Hubbard of "As the World Turns", Darlene Conley of "The Bold and the Beautiful" and Sharon Wyatt of "General Hospital".

Answer: Walt Willey (Jack)

"AMC" received a few wins at the 1991 Soap Opera Digest Awards alongside numerous nominations to go with it and one was Walt Willey (Jack) in Outstanding Supporting Actor. Willey had a major storyline the previous year with the Jack/Erica/Travis love triangle.

However, he fell short to Jordan Clarke of "Guiding Light". Other nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actor that year were Stephen Schnetzer of "Another World", Brad Lockerman of "General Hospital" and Richard Roundtree of "Generations".

Answer: Phyllis Lions (Arlene)

"All My Children" built up its winning chest with additional victories in 1992 and also was honored with additional nominations, one of them being Phyllis Lions (Arlene) as Outstanding Female Newcomer. However, Lions was unable to top Alla Korat of "Another World".

Other nominees for Outstanding Female Newcomer that year were Michelle Davison of "The Bold and the Beautiful", Melina Kanakaredes of "Guiding Light" and Victoria Rowell of "The Young and the Restless".

Answer: David Canary (Adam/Stuart)

Canary, one of the most honored daytime performers, turned in great work due to Adam and Erica's hilarious remarriage storyline that he was recognized for it at the 1993 Soap Opera Digest Awards ceremony. However, this was not enough for him to beat Peter Bergman of "The Young and the Restless".

Other nominees for Outstanding Lead Actor that year were Joseph Breen of "As the World Turns", Anthony Geary of "General Hospital", Michael Zaslow of "Guiding Light", Joseph Breen of "Loving", A Martinez of "Santa Barbara" and Jack Wagner of "Santa Barbara".

Answer: Dondre Whitfield (Terrence)

The 1994 Soap Opera Digest Awards had a number of categories with one of them being Outstanding Younger Actor, that field including an "All My Children" star: Dondre T. Whitfield (Terrence). Whitfield had a powerful storyline over Terrence's racial beating as well as a brief, tumultuous relationship with Julia Santos earning him this honor.

Unfortunately, he could not overcome Scott Reeves of "The Young and the Restless". Other nominees in the Outstanding Younger Actor category that year were Steve Burton of "General Hospital", Monti Sharp of "Guiding Light", Paul Anthony Stewart of "Loving" and Kirk Geiger of "One Life to Live".

The popular Eva LaRue got a well deserved nomination in 1996 after the previous year's intrepid storyline depicting Maria's infertility issues alongside her viperous discord with her sister-in-law, Erica. However, Louise Sorel of "Days of our Lives" nabbed the prize that year. The other nominee for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 1996 was Susan Flannery of "The Bold and the Beautiful".
