Finola Hughes, born on October 29th, 1960 in London, England began to play her popular "General Hospital" role of Anna Devane on "AMC" starting in March of 2001. She had originally joined the show in July of 1999 but as Anna's twin sister, Alex Devane Marick. Hughes won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1991 for playing Anna on "General Hospital" (this also marked that show's first win in the category).

It was revealed that a man named Bart had found her and nursed her back to health for the next nine years in his cabin in Canada. Bart had found Alex at the yacht party in November of 2000 and told Alex to come find her twin sister (Alex was off the canvas for three months to coincide with Finola Hughes' maternity leave). Anna had amnesia as a result of the explosion but she regained her memory a couple months later.

Anna and Edmund dated briefly but she did not want to continue the relationship. Anna had befriended Brooke and Brooke had told her that she and Edmund had previously dated years ago. Anna resigned from her post, in September of 2003, and left town. Derek Frye became the new Police Chief upon her resignation.

Jack Montgomery got fed up with Anna's stint, as Police Chief of Pine Valley, since he felt that she was subverting her enforcement of the law to protect her husband, David Hayward. He kept telling her that, if she did not improve and do what she was supposed to do, he would get her badge taken away. Jack and Anna eventually befriended one another and he gave up his vendetta.

Robin also told Anna that she had contracted the HIV virus several years earlier. Anna regained her memory and contacted Robin frequently, via phone, while she was in Pine Valley.
