Eileen Davidson originated the role of Ashley Abbott and returned in 1999 after two other actresses had played the role. Melody Thomas Scott began playing Nikki Reed in 1979.

After she lost the baby, Olivia Winters told her she could have no more children. Ashley, always prone to going crazy, believed an empty baby blanket to be her deceased baby Robert. Eventually, despite being sterile, Ashley became pregnant with Victor's child again.

This time, she lost the baby in a fall caused by Adam Newman pretending to be Sabrina, Victor's dead wife. Ashley continued on with a hysterical pregnancy. So, Adam stole baby Faith from Sharon Newman right after her birth and gave her to Ashley. Sharon and Faith were reunited six months later.

Tucker was played by former "DOOL" actor Stephen Nichols at the time the pair became engaged. Tucker had a huge chip on his shoulder when he first came to town, and conned Katherine out of Chancellor Industries for revenge. He then revealed his maternity, and eventually came to believe Katherine's story about how she lost him. Ashley's daughter, Abby Carlton, was convinced she'd caught Tucker in a post coital moment with Diane Jenkins, early upon her 2010 return to town.

She was right, she had caught him. So, she never took a liking to the man and never trusted throughout that next year. Ashley divorced Tucker in 2012, after finding him in bed with Harmony, with whom he shared a child- Devon.

In the early 1980s, Ashley found that John Abbott was not her biological father. The news caused her to suffer a breakdown followed by amnesia, which would not be her first bout with fugue states on the show. Jack and Traci are her half siblings via her mother Dina, but Billy is the offspring of John Abbott and Jill Foster Abbott.

Kyle is Jack's son by Diane's artificial insemination. Diane thought she was getting Victor's sperm, but Ashley got to it first. So, technically Kyle and Abby should be the same age. But, as of 2011 Kyle is about 10 and Abby is about 18.
