Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In June 2012, Daisy tried to blackmail Phyllis with proof of Phyllis' involvement in the hit and run on Paul and Christine in 1994. Immediately afterward, to whom did Phyllis admit she'd been driving that rental car on that fateful night?

Answer: Daniel, her son

When Daisy confronted Phyllis with the information, Daniel was actually at his mom's apartment. After Daisy left, Daniel pushed his mom until she admitted she had rented that car and drove it at Paul and Christine just to scare them. She said she's seen Christine, who was engaged to Paul at the time, kissing her ex-husband Daniel Romalotti. Daniel was married to Phyllis at that time, and Phyllis detested Christine. Everyone adored perfect Christine "Cricket" Blair. Phyllis was forced to tell Daniel, who was appalled. But, he soon backed off that attitude and helped her keep the secret. What she didn't tell him was that it was no accident they'd been, it had not been to scare them only, and that she'd also been responsible for the death of her friend Sasha Green.
2. It did not take long to put the pieces of Phyllis' 1994 crime against Christine and Paul together. Why was Christine able to get charges brought against Phyllis despite over 17 years having passed?

Answer: Because Chris was a Federal employee at the time of the crime

This was a bit confusing for me as a viewer. Christine found out that since she was a Federal employee at the time of the hit and run in 1994, there was no statute of limitations on the attempted murder of such an employee. First of all, I do not recall that even being true when the events took place in 1994. Setting that aside, I did not realize there was a statute of limitations on the attempted murder of anyone at all. Michael and Christine both believed the copies of the credit card statement from 1994 found in Ricky and Daisy's perspective possessions did link Phyllis to the crime. Michael tried to get Phyllis to admit the truth, but that was before Christine pulled out the info about being a Federal employee.

After he knew Phyllis could be charged after all, he specifically told her to tell him nothing at all. By that time, her sister Avery had already questioned Phyllis and came to the conclusion Phyllis was guilty.
3. What was Christine's theory as to why Phyllis had a motive to kill her back in 1994?

Answer: Phyllis witnessed Christine and Danny kissing

Phyllis had already admitted to her grown son, Daniel Romalotti Jr., that was indeed the exact reason she's rented that car to run down Christine. But, in her version to Daniel, Phyllis said she never meant to actually hit Chris and only wanted to scare her. That was not true.

She may not have wanted to hurt Paul at all, but she did want to hurt Chris. She was enraged with jealousy that Danny and Christine were kissing only moments before Christine was to marry Paul. Phyllis had conned and connived her way to being married to Danny, and the last thing she would allow to happen was Christine Blair Romalotti to take Danny away from her.

The crime left Paul impotent for months, which postponed his marriage to Chris. The pair did eventually marry, and ended up with Phyllis on their honeymoon with them.

In the years that passed, Phyllis began to change. In 2012, Phyllis did not view this version of herself as the same person who'd almost killed two people on that December night so long ago.
4. It was Michael Baldwin who delivered the news to Phyllis that Christine had found a way to prosecute her for the 1994 hit and run.

Answer: True

Phyllis called Michael and asked that he come to her home. She was ready to confess her crime to her best friend. Unfortunately, Michael explained to her that Chris had found a way to prosecute Phyllis despite the almost 18 year time span. So, Phyllis was unable to get it off of her chest.

When Nick came home and asked her again if she was guilty, Phyllis did not deny it this time. Phyllis admitted she was sorry and that her jealousy had caused all of it. Nick said that he no longer knew what he felt for her, and packed to go back out to the ranch to live. On this same episode, Paul was formally arrested for the first degree murder of his son Ricky. But, both Michael and Nina's grown son, FBI agent Ronan Malloy, decided they would set out to secretly disprove the charges against him.

This was the July 13 and 16, 2012 episodes aired in America.
5. Who was NOT at Crimson Lights when Phyllis was arrested for attempted murder on July 18, 2012?

Answer: Paul Williams, one of the victims

Paul was already in jail on charges for the first degree murder of his psychotic son Ricky. Also at Crimson Lights in that moment was FBI Agent Ronan Malloy, ADA Heather Stevens, Phyllis' granddaughter Lucy, Phyllis' daughter Summer and Phyllis' current husband Nick.

They weren't the only people in the place, but they were the main ones present at the arrest. Earlier in the episode, Ronan had come to Phyllis to offer whatever support he could despite being involved in her case. Avery had already gone to Nick to read him the riot act for abandoning Phyllis when she needed him the most.

Then, Ronan chastised Christine for going around the statute of limitations to enact her own vendetta against a person who really no longer existed. Christine did not deny her desire for revenge, and told Ronan that even if Phyllis had changed in the years since the crime, she still needed to pay for what she'd done.

At the arrest, Ronan refused Christine's order to handcuff Phyllis. Christine said she wanted everything done "by the book". Ronan replied "I didn't read that book".
6. Who was it that located Tim Reid and brought him back to Genoa City?

Answer: Ronan

Phyllis admitted she'd paid Tim to leave town for good. She knew he'd never come back on his own, but Ronan figured out where he was and retrieved him. Tim tried to invoke his doctor/patient confidentiality privilege, but Christine was determined to undermine it based on his romantic past with Phyllis. Phyllis had used Tim scandalously, callously, and without remorse.

He believed them to be a real couple way back then, and all he had left to show for it was a lost license and a mediocre life. As much as he wanted revenge on her, he had to try to invoke the privilege to protect his own wrong doings.
7. Who helped Phyllis cover up the fact that Tim Reid had died inside her apartment?

Answer: Kevin and Ronan

Kevin arrived at her apartment to offer her a job at his new website 'Tag and Grab', just moments after Tim died of heart failure. He was there to have a sexual encounter with Phyllis, who herself had NO intention of going through with it. Kevin helped Phyllis move the corpse back to his apartment. Unfortunately, Tim's neighbor (and lover) Beth. When it became an issue that the carpet fibers in her living room could be a possible trace back to Tim's death, she and Kevin arranged to have it dumped. She poured a bottle of red wine on it, to show it had been damaged, and Kevin placed it in a dumpster. Ronan decided to get involved as well, to make that the carpet was NOT located by the police. When pressed later, he admitted any help he "may" be offering to Phyllis was because he was in love with her. Tim died to an overdose of meds; he took prescriptions and added erectile dysfunction medication to it and basically dropped dead.

Aaron Lustig played Tim Reid and Brett Butler played his married girlfriend and neighbor Beth Hortense.
8. It was Summer Newman who told her father, Nick, that mom Phyllis' fake affair with Ronan was actually real.

Answer: True

As Phyllis' life was slowly imploding, Nick suffered through one round of lies after another. After Ronan covered up Kevin's dumping of the wine stained carpet, he then had to lie to the police to give Phyllis an alibi. He told the police that they'd been together the night Tim died, making love.

As sick as it made him, Nick went along with the lie to keep Phyllis' away from Tim's suspicious death and body relocation situation. Though Ronan lied for her, it turned out he was really in love with Phyllis and let her know that.

Their chemistry and attraction to one another was very strong, and in the end, Ronan was the only person there for her. So, she gave into her lust for him in October 2012, while still more or less together with Nick. Nick and Summer had moved out and back onto the ranch. Upon Chloe's urging, Summer went to her mom's place to try and see things from Phyllis' perspective.

She entered the condo with her own key, catching Phyllis and Ronan passionately intertwined on the floor.

She quickly backed out without a word to either of them, and immediately told her dad. Afterward, Nick and Phyllis had a nasty confrontation that spelled the end of their relationship.
9. Which of these things did NOT happen on the same day Phyllis' hit and run charges were dropped in mid October 2012?

Answer: Christine shot at Phyllis and killed Paul by mistake

While Kevin was on the stand avoiding implicating himself or Phyllis, the presiding judge (Rice) had a medical crisis and was removed. The next judge, Roy Daley, was appointed very quickly, and he was played by James Avery of "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" fame. He dismissed the case against Phyllis swiftly. He told Michael that he could not believe that the district attorney's office would waste court time, judge time, and tax payers' time on a case with "absolutely no merit". Michael argued on, with the example of Tim Reid's death. Judge Daley said it was clear Tim had died from a heart attack and not foul play. Heather tried to convince him that the hit and run was a real case, and he said she and Michael had exploited a very questionable loop hole to try a case that was older than most of the shirts he owned. Chris then jumped up and tried to plead to him on behalf of herself, as one of the victims. He then told her "congratulations", as it was she who was the cause of the case being dismissed. She adamantly disagreed, saying no one more than her wanted Phyllis prosecuted. He said "I know, and you were willing to do anything to get it. Including the claim that you were a federal employee when this alleged crime took place." He told her that any overwhelming evidence against Phyllis was irrelevant. He was clear that the court of law was not her personal playground to get the results she wanted.

That same day Adam and Chelsea were run off of the road by Summer Newman, which resulted in the loss of Chelsey and Adam's unborn son. Nick told Phyllis he was filing for divorce, and had just been waiting for the trial to end to let her know. Soon afterward, that same day, Summer let Phyllis know the accident changed nothing, and she still hated her.
10. During the time frame covered in this quiz, American air dates of 2012, which actress portrayed Phyllis Summers Newman?

Answer: Michelle Stafford

Michelle actually originated the role of Phyllis Summers in 1994, Tracey originated Lauren Fenmore in 1983, Lauralee originated Christine Blair in 1983, and Melody took over the role of Nikki Reed in 1979. Michelle departed as Phyllis briefly. In 1997 Sandra Nelson took over as Phyllis, but left in 1999. Michelle returned in 2000, and as of this quiz, has remained as Phyllis for twelve years straight.
