He then realises that the photographer has been looking after him in order to hire him out as a 'companion' to foreign businessmen.

Dave's Syndrome is a reaction to extreme heat that results in Manny stripping off all his clothes, lighting torches and acting like a tribesman. He is shown jumping up and down on the roof of a car and screaming like a maniac.

The manager of Goliath Books is played by simon Pegg from 'Spaced'. He is quite frightening as Manny's crazed new employer who puts out customers' cigarettes in the palm of his hand and insists that Manny cut off his long hair and beard if he wants to become 'part of the team'. Not surprisingly, Manny goes back to his old job at Black Books.

In the episode 'The Blackout', Manny accidentally gets mistaken for a plain clothes policeman. One of the actual policeman at the station says 'What's with the face fungus?', but he isn't actually called it by anyone.

Manny and Bernard get a security door fitted because the shop keeps getting robbed. Manny gets trapped in the shop and Bernard is locked out. Manny eats dead bees from the window sill and drinks a whole bottle of Absinthe.

In this episode Manny convinces Fran and Bernard go to a party with him. Manny has a plan for getting the girl he likes to phone him afterwards by leaving various objects behind so she will have to contact him to return them. This plan does not work but Rowena later comes to the shop with the extremely tenuous reason of wanting to return a plastic cup that Manny was drinking out of.
