In this episode the gang are waiting at the airport for Willow to return but they think she hasn't arrived. Willow, has in fact, with out realising cast a spell that makes her friends not see her as she feels she won't be welcome. When the gang find a man that has been skinned, they are all scared to admit that they think Willow did it. Willow who has seen the same body decides to find out who was responsible.

She and Anya do a demon locating spell. Buffy and the gang find out about a demon, Gnarl, that paralyses it's victims then eats their skin. Willow and the gang both head to the same cave where Willow gets paralysed by Gnarl.

The gang still can't see Willow but Anya tells them she is there. Buffy manages to defeat the demon and slowly Willow appears before them.

In this episode Buffy has started her job as school counselor and is visited by a young girl, Cassie Newton, who tells Buffy that she is going to die on Friday. Buffy asks Dawn to become friends with Cassie while she investigates. At first she thinks that Cassie may be suicidal, but she soon discovers that a group of boys are dabbling with black magic and that they are going to offer Cassie as a sacrifice. With Spike's help Buffy manages to stop the boys but Cassie still dies, she had a heart defect.

This episode shows flashbacks to before Anya ever became a vengeance demon. She was living happily with Olaf (the troll from "Triangle"), but when she discovered he was unfaithful she turned him into a troll. In the present day, Anya has unleashes the Crimslaw demon on a group of frat boys after one of them broke up with his girlfriend in front of the others. Buffy tell Xander that she has to kill Anya but he tries to stop her. Buffy and Anya fight but Willow has summoned D'Hoffryn and he asks Anya if she wants to take back what happens. D'Hoffryn tells her that to do this the cost is the life of a vengeance demon. Anya agrees, thinking he means her life, but instead he summons Anya's friend Halfrek and kills her instead. Anya becomes human again.

Buffy just happened to stop by Anya's and managed to rescue her from the demon. Buffy tells Anya that they are still friends and that they could use her help. Also, in this episode, Dawn has fallen for school hunk RJ, but when Buffy, Willow and Anya all fall for him as well, Spike and Xander realise that he has some sort of magic hold over them. To prove their love, Buffy tries to kill Principal Wood, Dawn decides that she must kill herself, Willow says she is going to turn him into a girl and Anya decides to rob a bank. In this episode Giles arrives in Sunnydale with three potentials, Kennedy, Molly and Annabelle. He explains to Buffy that The First Evil is killing the line of slayers, which will leave the Hellmouth free to open. Buffy fight the Turok-Han but is badly beaten and only manages to escape when the sun rises.

Buffy dusts the Turok-Han and Dawn realises that this was all set up by Willow, Buffy and Xander to prove to the potentials that Buffy can beat the vamps.

At the end of the episode Buffy rescues Spike.

In this episode the gang get news that there is a potential living in Sunnydale. Willow agrees to do a locator spell while Buffy takes the other potentials on an outing. Willow does the spell and is shocked when it points at Dawn. Dawn freaks and leaves the house where she runs into her friend Amanda, who tells her she was attacked at the school. Dawn says they can handle it and they head off to the school to kill the vampire.

While at the school Bringers attack and instead of Dawn go after Amanda. Buffy and Spike arrive in time to take out the Bringers and Amanda takes out the vampire. Confused she explains that she was going to Buffy for help when an orange glow hit her. Dawn explains that Amanda was at the front door when Willow did the spell. Amanda joins the other potentials at Buffy's house and after a heart to heart with Xander, Dawn starts to feel better about herself.

In this episode Giles has taken the potentials to the dessert. Kennedy pretends that she is sick so that she can ask Willow out on a date. After the date, they kiss and Willow turns into Warren. It turns out that Amy has put a hex on Willow that lets her choose her own punishment for forgetting about Tara for even a second. Willow starts to re-enact the shooting of Tara but Kennedy saves the moment by kissing Willow and she returns to normal. Also in this episode, Buffy gets the initiative to remove Spike's chip as it has started to break down causing him serious pain.

Xander makes a date with a girl, Lyssa, who he met at a lumber yard, only she turns out to be evil and tries to use his blood to open the Seal of Danthalzar. Buffy also has a date with Principal Wood, but Spike interrupts them to tell them about Xander.

In this episode Wood gives Buffy a bag that was supposed to be handed down from slayer to slayer, but he kept it when his mother died. Buffy uses the flashcards that are inside to open a portal which she jumps through. She is met by three shadow men who explain how they made the first slayer.

They try to put some demon dust in Buffy but she defeats them. Meanwhile, when Buffy went through the portal a demon cam through the other way and the only way to get Buffy back is to put the demon back also. Spike catches and kills the demon and Willow re-opens the portal, using energy from Anya and Kennedy. Buffy then explains to Willow that she had a vision of what was coming, hundreds of Turok-Han.

In this episode Andrew is making a documentary about Buffy and The Scoobies. Meanwhile, the seal has been opened and is causing a lot of violent outbreaks in the high school. Buffy takes Andrew to the seal and pretends that she is going to stab him making him confess all he has done and come to terms with it. He starts to cry and his tears close the seal.

Buffy goes back to where she found it and meets an old lady who tells her that she was one of a group of women who put the scythe there. Buffy then tells the potentials that she is going to open the seal and go into the Hellmouth. Buffy, Faith and all the potentials use their blood to open the seal. Willow does a spell using the scythe that makes the potentials become full Slayers. Buffy gave Spike the amulet and it starts to work by bringing the sun and dusting all the Turok-Han. Sunnydale starts to shake and the gang flee. Buffy tries to get Spike to leave with them but he tells her he has to finish it. Buffy takes his hand as he starts to burn.

She runs from the school while Spike dusts. Anya is also killed in this episode by a bringer saving Andrew's life. Giles asks Buffy what done this to which she replies "Spike".
