Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Although the opening of this episode seemed destined to follow in the footsteps of a typical teenage slasher film, there was a surprising twist, and the babysitter did not die after all.

Answer: True

This episode opened with a teenage babysitter sitting alone on a sofa, visibly distressed. In true teenage slasher flick style, the phone began to ring, and the male voice on the other end declared, "I'm watching you, babysitter". This was shortly followed by the girl's clichéd assumption that someone she knew was playing a trick on her.

The voice on the other end of the phone then declared, (echoing the horror film, "Scream"), "I'm closer than you think. I'm inside the house", before hanging up.

The girl then got up and wandered around the house, before being startled by her charge, Justin, who jumped out at her. Moments later, the babysitter's father was found murdered.
2. The initial suspect in this episode's double murder case had quite a respected profession. What was it?

Answer: Doctor

Dr. Lasker was brought in for questioning, after the CSIs found his fingerprints on the Montavo's window. After informing him that he was "a person of interest", Horatio discovered that Lasker had stopped by the Montavo's house "to see if they were home", with the aim of getting the tools Dave Montavo had borrowed from him.
3. The parents of the babysitter's charge, Justin, returned home much later than they were expected to. What was the reason they gave for not coming home on time?

Answer: They had no idea what had happened to them the previous night

When Horatio interviewed Dave and Renee Montavo, the latter told him that they had both passed out in their car. This statement caused her husband to retort with "She drank too much", riling Renee, who then spat, "I drank. Excuse me? You couldn't even stand straight." However eventually, Dave Montavo admitted that they actually had no idea what had happened to them.

His wife then went on to explain that they had gone to a party at their "neighbour's house, Oliver Brenner", and had blacked out afterwards.
4. What did Horatio and his team discover that the Montavo's son, Justin, had been doing?

Answer: Stealing from his neighbours

After following up on another suspect's claim that the Montavo's stole a signed baseball belonging to him, Horatio and the rest of the CSIs searched the Montavo's house. There they uncovered a hidden stash of stolen items, including the baseball, which the owner had claimed had gone missing the previous night.

However, both Mr and Mrs Montavo had been unconscious at the time, leading Horatio to suspect their son, Justin. When questioned, the boy admitted to sneaking out "a few times", and stealing from his neighbours.
5. What item of jewelery was responsible for bringing Horatio's attention to a completely new murder?

Answer: A bracelet

After finding the items stolen by Justin, Eric found that everything apart from one bracelet could be traced back to its original owner. Having glanced at the bracelet, a surprised Natalia then commented that it was "a beauty. Someone's definitely missing it." The plot then thickened, when Tripp revealed that the bracelet had "popped up on a theft report, but not from the neighbourhood." Instead, the owner of the bracelet turned out to have died, (and was later found to have been murdered), causing Horatio's attention to shift in another direction.
6. The investigation of the double murder which occurred at the beginning of the episode eventually led Horatio and his team to a serial killer.

Answer: True

When Horatio and his team began to investigate the murder of the babysitter's parents, each new lead led them to further, more sinister goings on. The babysitter's charge, Justin, was revealed to be a thief, while Dr. Lasker went on to admit that he had spiked Dave and Renee Montavo's drinks so that he could search their house for his stolen property.

However the CSIs found the stolen property first, and one particular bracelet led them to the hospital where Lasker worked. As Tripp explained to Horatio, Lasker had "made appearances before Georgia and Louisiana medical boards", as many "other patients" had "died under his care". Tripp then added, "He went to the Montavo's to steal the one thing to tie him to the crime".
7. "If there's a confidence issue, why don't you just say so?" Which of the following CSIs said this to Calleigh after discovering that she was checking their evidence reports?

Answer: Eric

Eric said this to Calleigh in the middle of this episode, when he found her checking his evidence reports. Initially, Calleigh told Eric that "the babysitter was lying" which is why she was "trying to figure out if" the girl was "covering for Mr Montavo".

This caused Eric to respond with "By going over my evidence reports?" Calleigh then informed him that she was just "making sure we crossed all our T's", prompting Eric to come out with the above quotation. Calleigh then finally told Eric the truth, which was as he was "recovering from a brain injury", she felt that it didn't hurt anybody "to be absolutely certain". Unfortunately for Eric however, it was revealed that his "phenolphthalein test" was out of order, prompting Calleigh to inform him that they "may have lost" their "shot at the killer". Meanwhile, the other dead individuals mentioned in this episode, were thought to be the victims of serial killer, Dr. Lasker.
8. What unusual item turned out to be the murder weapon used on the man who died at the beginning of this episode?

Answer: A motorcycle helmet

Once Eric had been informed of his mistake, he immediately went and checked the rest of his evidence, to make sure that he had not done anything else wrong. While doing this, he saw Natalia, who told him that she too had "messed up today", and didn't "even have an excuse".

She explained that she was "so busy looking at insect evidence that" she had "missed the bigger picture". For the fly found in "Mr Crowley's wound was hit at a high velocity", but "his head" did not "show significant impact". Eventually she came to the conclusion that "the weapon had a dead fly on it", but she couldn't work out what weapon was used. Eric, however, came to her rescue, by saying that it must have been due to transference, leading him to remember that one of the suspects they had already interviewed owned a motorcycle. Sure enough, the CSIs then went on to find the dead man's DNA on the suspect's helmet.
9. Everyone killed in this episode was murdered by the same person.

Answer: False

At the beginning of this episode, two people had been found murdered. The first, Mr Crowley, turned out to have been hit with the babysitter's boyfriend's motorcycle helmet, which killed him. It also transpired that it was the babysitter's boyfriend who did it. However, it was not because her father (Mr Crowley) did not want him to see his daughter. On the contrary, it turned out that his daughter's boyfriend was also sleeping with his wife. This, in turn, angered his daughter, who hit her mother with a sharp kitchen utensil, puncturing her neck, and killing her in the process.

Meanwhile, the other dead individuals mentioned in this episode, were thought to be the victims of serial killer, Dr. Lasker.
10. Where did Horatio go at the very end of this episode?

Answer: A cemetery

At the end of this episode, viewers saw Horatio standing in a cemetery, with the daughter of one of Dr. Lasker's victims, as she stood by her mother's grave. Earlier on in the episode, Horatio had promised to return her mother's bracelet, once he solved the case. During the cemetery scene, viewers clearly saw the young women removing it from an evidence bag, which was a clear indicator that the serial killer had been caught and brought to justice.
