Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the episode a group of soldiers were playing cards when the Stargate opened and aliens stepped through. What happened to the soldiers?

Answer: Four were killed and one was kidnapped

At the beginning, there were four male soldiers and one female playing poker while 'guarding' the gate. When the aliens appeared, one soldier made it to a phone and called for help before being shot and killed. Help arrived just as the aliens were about to depart. This was the first time we saw General Hammond and he witnessed the kidnap of the female soldier.
2. General Hammond sent soldiers to collect Colonel Jack O'Neill (retired) and bring him to the base. Where did these soldiers find Jack?

Answer: On his roof stargazing

When O'Neill went to meet General Hammond, he repeatedly mentioned the fact that he was retired. General Hammond asked if O'Neill has considered writing a book. O'Neill responded with "I'd have to shoot anyone who actually read it" as a reference to the fact that much of the work he carried out was classified.
3. O'Neill had to admit to General Hammond that he left Daniel Jackson alive and living on Abydos. Hammond did not wish to risk sending a team through so O'Neill suggested an alternative method of contacting him. How did he make contact?

Answer: He sent a box of tissues

He argued that Daniel Jackson had allergies and would know the tissues came from O'Neill. After sending them, the Stargate engaged and an empty box was returned with a note saying 'Thanks. Send more', confirming that Daniel Jackson had received the message and it was safe to travel to Abydos.
4. After receiving confirmation that Daniel Jackson was still alive, General Hammond sanctioned a mission to Abydos to retrieve him. At this point Captain Samantha Carter joined O'Neill's team. Where was she transferring from?

Answer: Pentagon

Carter, it was explained, has a PhD in astrophysics in addition to being a decorated pilot. O'Neill seemed somewhat hostile to Carter and she thought he was being sexist. He explained that he loves women, he simply dislikes scientists.
5. While on Abydos, the same aliens that attacked earth stepped through the Abydos gate and kidnapped Sha're and Skaara. How was Sha're related to Daniel Jackson?

Answer: Wife

Sha're was Daniel Jackson's wife. She was 'given' to him the first time O'Neill and Jackson travelled to Abydos. The story of the first trip O'Neill and Jackson took was told in the movie 'Stargate' (1994). The television series was set approximately one year after the events of that movie.
6. After the Abydos attack, O'Neill and the others returned to Earth. It was announced that teams would be formed to travel through the Stargate. O'Neill was given command of SG-1. Who was given command of SG-2?

Answer: Kawalsky

Kawalsky was a member of the original team which went to Abydos. General Hammond informed Kawalsky that Colonel O'Neill recommended Kawalsky for a command of his own.
7. SG-1 and SG-2 travelled to the address they had seen the aliens use to depart from Abydos. They were escorted to a town near the gate. What was the name of this town?

Answer: Chulak

The town of Chulak was the main settlement on the planet of the same name. Colonel O'Neill, Captain Carter and Daniel Jackson were taken to the town where they were greeted and invited to join a meal.
Dakara, Simarka and Jebanna were all planets mentioned throughout the Stargate seasons.
8. While at the meal, the alien who kidnapped the people from Earth and Abydos entered with Sha're by his side. What was different about Sha're?

Answer: She was infested with a Goa'uld

Apophis, the alien who carried out the kidnappings, made Sha're his 'queen', by infesting her with a Goa'uld. This is a parasitic organism that attaches itself to the human host's spine. These Goa'uld then posed as gods, enslaving humans.
9. Daniel attempted to grab Sha're and the team were captured and placed in a cell. They were reunited with Skaara. More of the Goa'uld enter to choose hosts for their children. Who volunteered to be a host?

Answer: Daniel Jackson

Daniel Jackson was upset and offered himself as a host in the hopes of being able to get through to Sha're. He stated 'something of the host must survive'. When this was said O'Neill noticed that one of the alien guards was shaking his head. Daniel is not chosen, but Skaara is.
10. When the selection of the hosts was made, Apophis ordered the remaining prisoners killed. Who helped SG-1 escape?

Answer: Teal'c

Teal'c was the 'first prime' of Apophis - the leader of his personal guard. He betrayed Apophis and helped SG-1 to escape and free the other prisoners. After this he said to O'Neill that he had nowhere to go. O'Neill responded that Teal'c could come with him and later announced that he wanted Teal'c to join SG-1.
