Adam and Amy enjoy a brief relationship but Amy is devastated when Adam ends it. She turns to work colleague, Pete, and the two begin an affair whilst on a company motivational course weekend.

Adam does nothing to encourage this infatuation but Jenny tells Pete that she no longer loves him. It's the beginning of the end for Pete and Jenny.

Danny and Rachel meet at work where Rachel is Danny's boss. Rachel is a little concerned at the beginning because she is 28 and he is 21. Eventually Danny ends the relationship because he doesn't find her friends interesting!

Pete tells Adam in the pub and although furious, Adam agrees not to tell Jenny if Pete ends it. Whilst drunk at the school reunion, Adam tells Karen who immediately tells Jenny. Adam convinces Jenny not to confront Pete about the affair, insisting that he will be able to stop Pete from continuing it.

When Jenny realises that Pete is still seeing Amy, she goes to Amy's house and catches Pete and Amy in a clinch.

Karen undergoes something of a mid-life crisis and begins to re-evaluate her life. David is astounded when he sees the tattoo.

Adam is playing squash with David when he receives a painful blow. The pain continues into the night and eventually he goes to the doctors for an examination where he is told that it's 95% likely that the testicle is cancerous, and that it has to be removed. Adam is extremely upset but the embarrassment is worse for him.

He tells Pete and Jenny in confidence and of course they tell the rest of the gang who visit him in hospital. Rachel then moves in with him to help him recover.

Apparently David's younger brother, Nick, has a reputation for sponging money and sure enough, this is the purpose of his visit to Manchester on this occasion too. He asks David to lend him 5000 pounds because he owes this amount to his parents for a failed internet venture, and he doesn't want to let them down. David wants to refuse to give him the money to teach him a lesson but Karen convinces him to give in.

David suggests that they stay at a castle where he and his family used to spend the summer holidays. When Pete's millennium clock batteries are removed, the group has no idea when it is midnight, and therefore Adam suggests that they wait until the sun comes up.

It's Adam and Pete's turn to cook according to David's rota but they realise they are hopeless cooks. Since they are at a loose end, they decide to borrow the little motor boat and go across to the mainland where they find a pub and pick up some takeaway pizza.

Unfortunately, the motor on the boat breaks on the way back and the boys think they are drifting out to sea. It is only when they are forced to leave the boat (after inadvertently letting off fireworks) that they realise that the water is much, much shallower than they thought!
