Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the first scene, where Jeff and Professor Duncan are having a conversation, three TV series are mentioned. Which of these is NOT mentioned by Jeff, Professor Duncan or Abed?

Answer: Family Ties

Jeff and Duncan are discussing Britta, and Duncan tells Jeff that he will wait for him to strike out before making his move.
Jeff replies with "Cheers". Walking past, Abed simply says, "M*A*S*H". Duncan then says, "Fawlty Towers, game over, have a nice day."
2. As the group takes their seats in Spanish class, Troy is messing with Abed. Which of these does he not claim to be true?

Answer: He is a spy

Poor Abed is not overly proficient with the concept of sarcasm. Later in the episode, it is revealed that he also claimed to be related to Danny Glover. This is an in-joke, as the actor who portrays Troy, Donald Glover, is often falsely believed to be related to Danny Glover.
3. As Chang is trying to encourage the person who cheated on his test to come forward, he threatens to fail the entire class if the culprit is not identified, except for who?

Answer: Toby

Chang caresses the face of a young man in the front row, and says, "Except you, Toby". Throughout the first three seasons, this character is never referenced again.
4. The study group tries to work out who cheated, and their initial reaction is to blame Jeff. He denies it, claiming if he were to cheat, he wouldn't write information on a piece of paper. Why not?

Answer: It's practically learning

Jeff is merely at Greendale to obtain a legitimate degree. As we learned in the pilot episode, he has a "Bachelor's from Columbia", but now he needs one from America. Jeff shifts the blame to Annie.
5. As the blame for the cheating shifts around the study group, each member says something along the lines of "I may be _______, but I'm not _______". Fill the blanks for Pierce's claim.

Answer: A genius; a lesbian

Eventually we find out that it is Britta who cheated.
The conversation around the group goes as follows:

Jeff: "Whoever made that crib sheet wasn't a real cheater, just insecure and naďve" [looks at Annie]
Annie: "I may be naďve, but I'm not stupid" [looks at Troy]
Troy: "Well, I may be stupid, but I'm not trying to look like I'm not" [looks at Pierce]
Pierce: "Well, I may be a genius, but I'm not a lesbian" [looks at Britta]
Britta: "Who cares who made the crib sheet..."
6. Britta asks Jeff what he thinks they will do to her for cheating. The Dean gets to make "quite an entrance", telling her they won't be doing what?

Answer: Giving her an ice cream

None of these are her actual punishment, but the Dean only mentions the ice cream. He is quite impressed that he got such a smooth entrance. Well done, script writers! Her punishment will be reviewed by a disciplinary tribunal.

The Dean always tries his hardest to pretend his school is up there with Ivy League institutions.
7. In the "tribunal", Chang recounts the events of the previous day in great detail. What time did he get up in the morning?

Answer: 05:58 AM

Chang introduces himself as "Professor Ben Chang" to the tribunal. Professor Duncan emphasises calling him "Teacher Chang", as he is not a professor.
8. Jeff claims that Britta must be acquitted, because she is insane. He also states that everyone at Greendale is crazy, so it makes no sense to punish her. Which of these is not an example of craziness that Jeff uses?

Answer: Allowing Pierce to write the school song

Jeff gives a "Winger Speech" to get Britta off the hook.

He claims that Britta doesn't want to succeed, because she doesn't think she can, so she goes out of her way to fail. He notes that Chang and Duncan are "arguing over status at a college that correspondent schools make fun of", and then Dean wants Greendale to be Ivy League, so he is using his state-of-the-art judge's table, fitted with electrical equipment, in the same room as the swimming pool.
9. Pierce wakes from his sleep with an epiphany - he has figured out the school song! But, he quickly realises that the tune is already taken. Which song does he play, with slightly altered lyrics?

Answer: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Pierce sings, "Greendale, Greendale, little star". He subsequently bursts into tears. He admits he is a fraud to Annie, and reveals that his Hawthorne Wipes jingle was alternative lyrics to "She'll Be Comin' Around The Mountain".
10. What are Troy and Abed putting in each other's mouths in the final scene?

Answer: Pencils

Abed manages to fit 36 into Troy's mouth. Abed and Troy are notorious for being extremely weird.
