Answer: Shark Week

Like much of Discovery's programming, Shark Week began as education oriented programming geared to teaching respect for sharks. In recent years, "docu-tainment" programs aimed at creating controversy and ratings have taken over much of the Shark Week block. "Mythbusters" hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman use quasi-scientific methods to test various urban myths and legends. In addition to the "Jet-Assisted Chevy", the Mythbusters have explored topics such as whether using a cell phone while pumping gas can cause an explosion, if a falling icicle can kill a person, can a human voice shatter a wine glass, and is it possible to lift a car using nothing but duct tape?

Answer: Wild

British adventurer Bear Grylls was the man who fought to survive in the wild. He faced danger in places like the Moab Desert, the African Savanna, Namibia, Norway and Vietnam. Discovery aired 66 episodes of "Man vs. Wild" from 2006 to 2011.

Answer: How It's Made

"How It's Made" airs in Canada on the Discovery Channel, in the US on Science and on Discovery Family. In Britain it's appeared on Discovery Channel, Quest, and DMAX. US and UK versions and those shown in other nations are virtually identical, with narration tracks recorded in appropriate languages.

Answer: Dirty Jobs

"Dirty Jobs" ended in 2012 after 166 episodes. Discovery has also aired a European version of the show.
"Somebody's Gotta Do It" is a show hosted by Mike Rowe on CNN in the US. It highlights people who are passionately motivated to participate in unusual jobs, hobbies and activities.

Answer: Paul Teutul, Sr. and Jr.

Showing the design and building of custom motorcycles, "American Chopper's" first four seasons were on Discovery. The show then moved to sister channel TLC for three seasons. Ongoing friction between Paul Sr. and Jr. led to Jr.'s exit from both the business and the show in 2008.

As litigation over ownership of Orange County Choppers continued, TLC produced a seventh and final season in 2010 entitled "American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior". It featured work at both Orange County Cycles and Paul Jr.'s new shop.

Answer: Amish Mafia

The show's premise is that Levi King Stoltzfus ("Lebanon Levi") leads a group of youths who keep peace within the Pennsylvania Dutch Amish community and protects them from outsiders who would do them harm. Among other dangers, the Mafia has dealt with illegal buggy races, a cab driver who overcharges Amish passengers, and an "Amish Exorcism". It seems that virtually nobody believes Discovery's claim that "Amish Mafia" is a documentary reality show.

The show admits to containing "select re-enactments" while critics allege that the bulk of the show is, in fact, fiction and insulting to the Amish and unrepresentative of their culture.

Answer: Catch

"The Deadliest Catch" doesn't require much dramatization to generate a high level of excitement. Commercial fishing is one of the deadliest vocations and the waters off the Aleutian Islands are among the most treacherous in the world. "Deadliest Catch" has been closely linked to the lives of the men it follows.

The show accompanied Coast Guard rescuers on missions to several sinking boats and in season 6, cameras were with Phil Harris, skipper of the "Cornelia Marie" when he suffered a stroke.

At Harris' request, the film crew accompanied him as he was airlifted to a hospital. After surgery, Harris finally succumbed to complications of the stroke.

Answer: Eaten Alive

"Eaten Alive" aired in December 2014 and featured naturalist Paul Rosolie. Rosolie was to feed himself to a huge anaconda while wearing a "snake-proof" suit. Once he was about waist-deep in snake, he would be pulled out. The snake apparently wasn't hungry and instead of snacking it attacked Rosolie.

When its constrictions threatened to break his arm, he called the stunt off and was removed from the snake's clutches. Viewers were not happy with the show and animal rights groups considered it potentially harmful to the snake.
