Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During part of the episode titled "Smith and Jones" the Doctor is in two places at the same time. What are they?

Answer: the hospital and the street

On her way to work, Martha sees the Doctor take off his tie in front of her on the street. When she arrives at the hospital where she is a medical student, she is led to his hospital bed to examine him. When she mentions seeing him outside, the Doctor does not know he was there as he has been in the hospital the whole time and has not yet traveled back in time to Martha's morning walk.
2. "The Shakespeare Code" is the story of the trip that was supposed to be Martha's only journey in the TARDIS. During the episode, what book does the Doctor say made him cry?

Answer: Harry Potter book seven

Harry Potter references run rampant in this episode. Martha mentions the series, and the Doctor then reveals that he has gone forward in time and read the last book. In the end, a spell invented by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling saves the world.
3. The characters in "Gridlock" share faith as a common bond. What hymn do they sing at the end of their morning traffic report?

Answer: The Old Rugged Cross

At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Hame, a cat nun, along with the Face of Boe, controls the reports received by the drivers. She does her best to comfort them using hymns she knows.
4. What famous New York landmark do the Daleks use as their headquarters in "Daleks in Manhattan"?

Answer: Empire State Building

The Daleks control the construction of the Empire State Building, making it suitable for their plan to create human Dalek hybrids. "Doctor Who" crew members went to New York to shoot authentic footage, but the cast remained at "Doctor Who" headquarters in Cardiff, Wales. David Tennant, who portrays the Doctor, later expressed mock anger at being forced to stay behind.
5. One character in "Evolution of the Daleks" is saved by the Doctor in the end but remains a mixture of human and another species. What is this species?

Answer: Pig

Laszlo, the unfortunate boyfriend of showgirl Tallulah, escapes having his mind taken by the Daleks. His facial appearance, however, remains half pig, half human.
6. At the end of "The Lazarus Experiment" Martha refuses to take one more trip with the Doctor. Why does she do this?

Answer: She wants him to take her along as his regular companion.

Martha insists that the Doctor takes her on permanently or not at all, and she walks away in a huff because she thinks he has refused. Much to her amazement, he has actually agreed and is delighted to have such a clever partner.
7. To what does the title "42" refer?

Answer: the length of time the Doctor has before the space ship falls into the sun.

Chris Chibnall wrote this episode of "Doctor Who" with a real time "24" twist. The amount of time remaining was shown on the screen frequently and added to the sense of tension.
8. "Human Nature" is a chilling look at life without the Doctor. Who does John Smith, the fictional creation of the TARDIS, say his parents were?

Answer: Verity and Sydney

John Smith has a thoroughly ingrained human life story, but he does let slip that he learned to draw in Gallifrey. Verity Lambert and Sydney Newman were the show's very first producer and creator, quite literally the Doctor's "parents". Thanks to the BBC 'Doctor Who' website for that information.
9. In "The Family of Blood", Son of Mine finally learns why the Doctor chose to hide from him and his parents and sister. Why does he say the Doctor did this?

Answer: He was being kind.

The Doctor tells Martha that if he hides for three months, the Family will die. Instead, they find him and try to get his body because it will grant them immortality. The Doctor punishes them by making each of them live forever in isolation, a fate he tried to save them from by giving them a chance to die in peace.
10. In "Blink", what energy does the Doctor say the Weeping Angels feed on?

Answer: unlived days of people they send into the past

A very startling aspect of the episode is that the first victim we see, Kathy Nightingale, is not hurt. Instead, she finds herself transported to 1920, where she makes a new life for herself. The Angels' other victim, Billy, is lucky enough to end up in the same year as the Doctor.

The Doctor explains that the Weeping Angels kill by removing a person from the life they were supposed to have and eating the energy they would have had.
