Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who wrote "The Shakespeare Code"?

Answer: Gareth Roberts

He also wrote the interactive mini episode "Attack of the Graske", which was aired after the 2006 Christmas special. "The Shakespeare Code" is Gareth Roberts' first proper episode of "Doctor Who".
2. What year was "The Shakespeare Code" set in?

Answer: 1599

This is displayed on the screen during the opening scene.
3. Christina Cole guest starred as the witch, Lilith. In 2004/2005 Christina starred in another programme about witches, what is the name of this programme?

Answer: Hex

Christina played a character called Cassie Hughes. "Hex" was set in a British private school called Medenham Hall. Unfortunately, this series was cancelled after the second season didn't receive as many viewers as the producers had hoped for. Incidentally, Cassie's mother is called Lilith.
4. "The Shakespeare Code" is Freema Agyeman's second episode.

Answer: False

Freema starred as Martha Jones in "Smith and Jones" and "The Shakespeare Code" however, she also played Adeola in "Army of Ghosts" (series two). It was during the filming of "Army of Ghosts" that Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner spotted potential talent in Freema and asked her to come back for an audition, which she as told was for "Torchwood".

It was only after several auditions that she was told they were actually auditioning her for the part of Martha Jones.
5. Near the beginning of the episode, the Doctor makes some comparisons between present day London and Shakespeare's London, which of these comparisons did the Doctor NOT mention?

Answer: Busy streets.

The water cooler moment and the recycling comments were made when the Doctor and Martha first stepped out of the TARDIS. The men dressed as women comment was made when they were in the Globe theatre.
6. The Doctor said that the witches' magic was another kind of science. Humans chose numbers, what did the witches choose?

Answer: words

The witches used Shakespeare to create new words and phrases to release them.
7. Which witch appeared to try to seduce the Doctor?

Answer: Lilith

Lilith appeared to try to seduce the Doctor, but all she wanted was a cut of his hair.
8. Martha starts to flirt with the Doctor when they have to share a bed. What makes her stop?

Answer: The Doctor mentioning Rose

The Doctor is completely oblivious to Martha's flirting. Then he mentions Rose, says that she would know exactly what to say, and that he is going to take Martha back the next day. At this, Martha gets very offended, turns around and falls asleep.
9. Lilith blows a vapour over Shakespeare to put him under her spell. What colour is this vapour?

Answer: Green

This gives Lilith complete control over Shakespeare and she makes him write the two lines which will release the rest of the Carrionites.
10. Which "Harry Potter" spell was used to banish the witches?

Answer: "Expelliarmus"

The witches needed new words in order to banish them. If the Doctor hadn't have shown up, that new word would never have been written.
