Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who plays the Doctor in the 28th series?

Answer: David Tennant

David Tennant's real name is David McDonald but that name was already registered with the Actor's Equity so after reading an interview in 'Smash Hits' with The Pet Shop Boys he changed his name to Tennant after The Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant!
2. What does TARDIS stand for?

Answer: Time and Relative Dimensions In Space

It is sometimes written as Time and Relative Dimension In Space. According to the Doctor in the episode 'The Impossible Planet', TARDISes are grown, not built.
3. What is the Doctor's home planet called?

Answer: Gallifrey

In the episode 'The End Of The World', the Doctor says that it was destroyed in the Time War but he never usually mentions it. The Dalek home planet is Skaro.
4. Where are the Slitheen family from?

Answer: Raxacoricofallapatorius

It becomes a running joke throughout the 27th and 28th series as only the Doctor and Rose (eventually) can pronounce it. Clom is its sister planet and it is where Peter Kay's character The Abzorbaloff came from. The Abzorbaloff was designed for a Blue Peter competition. The winner was disappointed with the end result because it was supposed to be as tall as a double decker bus!
5. In the episode 'Tooth and Claw', where were the Doctor and Rose supposed to be traveling to when they landed in 1879 Scotland?

Answer: 1979 Sheffield to an Ian Dury Concert

The Doctor was supposed to be taking Rose to see Ian Dury in concert in Sheffield 1979, but the TARDIS took them to Scotland 1897 where they bumped into Queen Victoria.
6. In the episode 'School Reunion', which one of the Doctor's former companions from the classic series returned?

Answer: Sarah-Jane Smith

Sarah-Jane travelled with the third and fourth regenerations of the Doctor from 1973 till 1976. The Doctor dropped her off in Croydon but it was revealed in this episode that it was actually Aberdeen. Rose Tyler was the current companion in the episode. Jack Harkness travelled with the Doctor and Rose from the episode 'The Empty Child' until they left him behind on the game station in 'Parting Of The Ways'. Barbara Wright was one of the Doctor's first companions and appeared in the first episode 'An Unearthly Child'.
7. How is the Doctor described in the Face Of Boe prophecy in the episode 'New Earth'?

Answer: A wandering traveller

The Face of Boe was hospitalised in Ward 26 of the hospital on New Earth. Apparently dying of old age, the Face of Boe summoned the Doctor to him. When a Sister of Plenitude told the Doctor the legend of the Face of Boe's last words, the Doctor realised that he fit the description of the "wandering traveller".

The Face of Boe recovered, saying that although he had grown tired of the universe, dying could wait. The Face of Boe told the Doctor that at their third and final meeting he would reveal his secret to him.
8. The Genesis Ark uses Time Lord Technology, but what exactly is it?

Answer: A prison ship

It is bigger on the inside like the TARDIS and was created by the Time Lords during the Time War to keep Daleks prisoner. The Doctor has never heard of it before and says that both sides had secrets. It needed a time traveller to touch it so it could open, Mickey accidentally touched it therefore opening it up but the Doctor said that the Daleks would have opened it by force anyway blowing up the sun in the process.
9. How did Rose save the universe in the episode 'The Parting Of The Ways'?

Answer: She absorbed the energies of the Time Vortex and used it to destroy the Daleks

She opened the heart of the TARDIS and therefore absorbed the Time Vortex, the Doctor had to draw the energy into himself before it consumed Rose, but the energy was too much for him and he regenerated into David Tennant's version of the Doctor. She helped to open the void in the 28th series finale 'Doomsday'.
10. Which of the following names did the Daleks refer to the Doctor as?

Answer: The Oncoming Storm

In the episode 'The Girl in the Fireplace', Rose is trying to scare the Clockwork Monsters.
