She threatened to kill Claude who said he was getting them for his wife so the witch threatened to kill her too. The witch asked to be godmother to the child before finally saying she'd take the baby girl as her own.

As Claude was tending to a crying baby there was knock on the door and then the house shook. The door swung open and Claude handed Marie the baby and that was when the witch froze them and took the baby away.

The witch disappeared to a distant country to a tower in the forest where she named the baby Rapunzel, for the radishes.

Rapunzel was blossoming into womanhood so the witch locked her in the tower and sealed the entrance. She visited Rapunzel telling her to let down her hair but Rapunzel said no. After a while she gave into hunger and helped her mother into the tower.

Rapunzel wanted more than just her mother as a companion. Mother said she had given Rapunzel everything she ever wanted. Rapunzel said, "Except a father!" Mother slapped her face then introduced a talking parrot as Rapunzel's companion.

As Rapunzel was growing more depressed she sang out loud which carried out throughout the forest. By chance a prince named Henry had gone hunting and lost his way and by chance found the tower. When he got there he saw how the witch got up into the tower and how she left. So he managed to convince Rapunzel to lower her hair.

They fell instantly in love and considered themselves man and wife.

The witch then hunted the tower for the man only to find the silk Rapunzel was weaving into a ladder to escape the tower. Since the parrot repeated what he heard the witch heard him repeat, "I think I love you. Rapunzel will you marry me?" She then cut Rapunzel's long hair and left her in the desert to fend for herself.

Henry came to visit Rapunzel at the tower only to find the witch there instead. She shoved him out of the tower taking his eyesight from him. "You'll never see Rapunzel again!" He wandered into the desert accidentally coming across Rapunzel in the desert.

She cried tears which fell into his eyes which magically restored his sight. Rapunzel then introduced Henry to their twins: a boy and a girl.
