Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. An easy one to start with: Which student won rave reviews for their version of "Tainted Love" in Week 5?

Answer: Alex

Originally a number one hit in both the UK and USA in 1981 for Soft Cell, this was, of course, performed by Alex on 30 August 2003. As of week 6, Alex is the only student who has not appeared in the bottom 3.
2. Audley was the first student to be expelled from the Academy back on 9 August 2003. Which song did he perform that night, causing Academy Head Teacher, Richard Park, to exclaim in his usual constructive fashion: "I'm in two minds, that was either bad or awful"?

Answer: "My Girl" by The Temptations

Sadly for Audley, The Temptations' 1964 hit (which was co-written by Smokey Robinson) did not prove a winner, losing out 7-4 in the student vote to Gary. "Me and Mrs Jones" was the song which had originally won him his place in the Academy. "Back for Good" and "Hero" were sung by Alistair and Nick, respectively, in their heats. (Info taken from Digital Spy's Fame Academy Forum: http://fame.digitalspy.co.uk/)
3. Bryan Adams is clearly a "Fame Academy" favourite, with songs of his appearing in Week 2 ("Run to You") and Week 3 ("Heaven"), but which two students covered the Canadian's hits?

Answer: Carolynne & Lorna

Carolynne sang "Run to You" (highest UK chart position: 11) on Wednesday, 13 August 2003, while Lorna covered "Heaven" (highest UK chart position: 38) on Saturday, 16 August. Both tracks are taken from Bryan Adams' 1985 album, "Reckless". It was Lorna's last appearance on FA2, as the students voted that night to keep Simone. 4. Of all the students, Paris has probably been given the most diverse range of songs/artists to cover, but which one of these songs secured his place in the Academy?

Answer: "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith

Paris must have been "feeling it" the night he performed Aerosmith. Academy tutor David Grant commented, "He stands on stage and looks like he belongs there. Possibly we have someone who can become a unique artist." Barry also won the public vote that night, with Simone being voted in by the students. 5. Peter is best remembered for his 'unique' physical performances including, of course, failing to sit on a chair in spectacular fashion, but which 1960s band/artist is he yet to cover?

Answer: The Rolling Stones

Peter's performances have included "The Man Who Sold the World" by David Bowie and also Lulu, "Last Train to Clarksville" by The Monkees, "Glad All Over" by the Dave Clark Five and "Last Night" by The Strokes (who apparently would like their persona back, according to Huey from Fun Lovin' Criminals on BBC Three).
6. Which student covered a Robbie Williams classic and later claimed on the live feed that: "I sound nothing like Robbie Williams... Robbie can't hit those notes as easily as what I can"?

Answer: Barry

Robbie Williams is hardly looking over his shoulder! "Feel" was the first single released from his 2002 album, "Escapology," which achieved quadruple platinum status in less than three weeks. Despite positive comments from the judges, Barry could not avoid being expelled from the Academy after his rendition on Sunday, 7 September 2003.
7. James Woods, Jeff Bridges and Rachel Ward starred in the 1984 film, "Against All Odds", but which Academy student covered the theme tune?

Answer: Alistair

Alistair covered the Phil Collins theme tune, which is often referred to incorrectly as "Take A Look at Me Now". The other three have also performed movie tunes: "It Must Have Been Love" by Roxette from "Pretty Woman" (Carolynne); "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin from "Top Gun" (Louise) and "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" by Guns N' Roses from "Days of Thunder" (Paris). Several of the students also performed songs from "Saturday Night Fever" on the BeeGees Special.
8. On the BeeGees Special, four students were chosen by celebrity judge Robin Gibb to perform "You Win Again" - which four?

Answer: Alex, Alistair, Louise and Paris

The chosen four also sang individually: "You Should Be Dancing" (Paris); "To Love Somebody" (Alistair); "Words" (Alex); and "Too Much Heaven" (Louise).
9. Following on, which of the four students who had been expelled prior to the BeeGees Special actually recorded "You Win Again" for the Fame Academy CD?

Answer: Audley

The full track listing for the CD is: "You Should Be Dancing" (Paris); "Guilty" (Carolynne); "To Love Somebody" (Alistair); "Words" (Alex); "Massachusetts" (Peter); "Too Much Heaven" (Louise); "How Deep Is Your Love?" (Barry); "More Than A Woman" (James); "Heartbreaker" (Simone); "I've Gotta Get A Message to You" (Gary); "You Win Again" (Audley); "Islands In The Stream" (Lorna); "Tragedy" (Nick).
10. Several of the songs we've heard on the live showdowns have been recorded by multiple artists. In week 6, which student performed their version of a song previously covered by The Chimes?

Answer: Alex

Scottish R&B trio The Chimes - Mike Peden, James Locke and singer Pauline Henry - scored a UK Top Ten hit in 1990 with their cover of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." (info from: http://entertainment.msn.com/artist/?artist=117744)
