John, when seeing the ship approach what everyone thinks is a moon until it changes course and speed, says, "That's no moon... that's a Budong!" This is similar to the line from "Star Wars: A New Hope" when Obi-Wan says, "That's no moon... that's a space station."

After being swallowed by the Budong, John says, "It's totally black out there. This big guppy just locked us in!" What worries him even more is that they seem to be going down, to the Budong's stomach.

Stark has tied Rygel up and gagged him when the little green guy wants to power up the transport pod and get as far away from the Budong as possible. Stark says that will make them "electromagnetic candy," and to keep Rygel off the controls he ties him up and gags him until he can find Talyn. Rygel insults Stark's mother, prompting the Banik to take the gag out, at which point Rygel projectile vomits all over Stark, laughing as he does.

When Crais disappears and Talyn won't respond to Aeryn, even though she had a neural transponder put in, John says, "Houston, we have a problem."

Crais, who breaks out in welts all over, is experiencing "bleed back" caused by his connection with Talyn, who in times of stress, can gain control over Crais, the welts being a physical manifestation of his control. Talyn is jealous of John and thinks he is no good for Aeryn and wants to kill John, but first he wants to get loose from the Budong.

Aeryn asks John what his problem is, as he's been cold toward her. She tells him, "I want you to stop acting like a drannit." John snaps back, "You know what, I have no idea what a drannit is." Aeryn says, "Don't play dumb with me. That hasn't worked for over two cycles, John." John says, "Aeryn, I am dumb! I don't understand you half the time, and I have no idea what a drannit is!" Aeryn realizes he really doesn't know. Apparently it's not just a one way street in translations, as half the time Aeryn and the others have no idea what John is talking about either. Nally is a bad word for female genitalia, eema is another word for butt, and probakto is a bad way of saying you are an illegitimate child.

After being vomited on by Rygel, Stark concocts a plan to make the Budong vomit by getting it to swallow ice water and then have Talyn release fuel and ignite the water/fuel which would cause the Budong to vomit, and then Talyn could ride the wave out of its mouth.

John shows Aeryn his charts and the stars. He tells her, that's Hewey, Louie, and Dewey. You see that one? That's that star right there... the bright one.
