Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Two and a Half Men

Answer: Charlie Sheen

The series began airing in the USA in 2003 with Charlie Sheen as Charlie Harper, whose life is disrupted by the arrival of his brother and nephew, the latter being the 'half man' of the title. Sheen's problems with drug abuse led to him criticising Chuck Lorre, the show's creator, and Sheen's subsequent dismissal.

His character was written out of the show with a new character, played by Ashton Kutcher, created to maintain the dynamic of the show. The show's last season was in 2015.
2. Grey's Anatomy

Answer: Isaiah Washington

Washington appeared in the first three series of 'Grey's Anatomy', between 2005 and 2007 playing the character Dr. Preston Burke. He was fired after an argument on set during which he was alleged to have used an unacceptable and homophobic word referring to a fellow actor.

Although he apologised, he referred to the incident in interviews, using the same expression, and was sacked from the show as a result. 'Grey's Anatomy' began recording its seventeenth series in 2020.
3. Beverly Hills, 90210

Answer: Shannen Doherty

Doherty played the role of Brenda Walsh on 'Beverly Hills, 90210' but established a reputation of being difficult to work with, being regularly late on set and feuding with her fellow actors. She was written out of the show , which began showing on television in 1990, at the end of the fourth season. Doherty moved on to 'Charmed', playing Prue Halliwell, but her tenure on that show ended badly too, and her character was killed off.
4. A Different World

Answer: Lisa Bonet

'A Different World' featured the character Denise Huxtable from 'The Cosby Show' in which Lisa Bonet has also played her. The series ran for six seasons from 1987, but Lisa, married to Lenny Kravitz at the time, became pregnant during the first season. Since her character was a single girl at college, Bill Cosby, the show's creator, refused to allow her to continue in the role saying that Denise would not have become pregnant. Bonet's return to 'The Cosby Show' also ended badly, when she was fired from that show in 1991.
5. Lethal Weapon

Answer: Clayne Crawford

'Lethal Weapon' was the television version of the successful films, and ran from 2016-2019, with Crawford playing Martin Riggs - portrayed by Mel Gibson in the original film. Crawford did not get along with his co-star, Damon Wayans, playing Roger Murtagh (according to him, the feeling was mutual) and was fired in 2018 with his character being killed off.
6. Three's Company

Answer: Suzanne Somers

'Three's Company' was the American version of the British show 'Man about the House' and ran from 1997 until 1983. John Ritter played a man who pretended to be gay so he could share an apartment with two women, played by Suzanne Somers and Joyce DeWitt.

In 1980, Somers requested a pay rise, having discovered that the female stars on the show were being paid substantially less than the male star. The studio, ABC, refused to increase her pay to anything close to her request (or demand, depending on which source you read), with her husband being blamed for encouraging her.

The character of Chrissie Snow was written out of the show and it took many more years before actresses could expect to be paid the same as their male colleagues as a matter of course.
7. House of Cards

Answer: Kevin Spacey

Based on a novel written by Michael Dobbs and first adapted for British television, 'House of Cards' ran from 2013 until 218. Kevin Spacey played the main role of Frank Underwood, who became President of the USA by means of deviously manipulating everyone with whom he came into contact.

In 2017, allegations of Spacey's inappropriate sexual advances towards young, teenage, boys became public and Spacey was fired from the show, with his character being killed off.
8. Top Gear

Answer: Jeremy Clarkson

Jeremy Clarkson, along with James May and Richard Hammond, presented 'Top Gear' between 2002 and 2015. The mix of serious road testing of (usually) high value cars and comedic segments was popular with viewers but it all came to an end when a hungry and tired Clarkson physically attacked a producer on the show when no hot food was available. Clarkson was dismissed, with his colleagues leaving in a show of solidarity. 'Top Gear' has continued with new presenters, Clarkson, May and Hammond now present a motoring show on Amazon and Jeremy also began presenting 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' in 2018.
9. Anger Management

Answer: Selma Blair

The television series ran for two series, from 2012-2014 with Charlie Sheen playing the role made famous by Jack Nicholson in the film of the same name. Selma Blair played his colleague and had been outspoken about the problems caused by Sheen's habitual lateness. Sheen issued an ultimatum that either she went or he would quit, sealing her fate, since he was the main star of the show.
10. Desperate Housewives

Answer: Nicollette Sheridan

Sheridan played the role of Edie Britt, who was one of the residents of Wisteria Lane, although not one of the main characters. She played the part from 2004 until 2009 when the character was killed off in season five. Initially, the actress's departure was said to be by mutual consent, but Sheridan later launched various lawsuits claiming wrongful dismissal.

The first case ended as a mistrial and several later attempts by Sheridan to pursue her case were thrown out before reaching court. The show's producers have stated that they needed to cut costs and Sheridan's character was written out for this reason.
