Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Harold Weir was a man who enforced 'quiet hour' and liked to eat his dinner at the table with his family every evening after a hard day at his store. What kind of store did Harold own?

Answer: Sporting goods store

Harold was protective of his kids, so at times it seemed he was overly strict. Harold's store is mentioned right often, it's called A 1 Sporting Goods. We even get to see the inside when Sam and Cindy go there to sell ads for the yearbook. In "The Little Things", Harold discusses the danger which the national chain of sporting goods superstores pose for mom and pop stores like his.

He asks Lindsay to make a plug for the store when she asks Vice President Bush her question at school. Harold was played by former "SCTV" regular Joe Flaherty.

He has also appeared in "One Crazy Summer", "Happy Gilmore" and "Slackers".
2. Gloria Haverchuck was Bill's divorced mom. Which one of Bill's teachers did she date?

Answer: Coach Fredricks

Bill's mom was more hip than the other moms, and apparently used to work as a dancer. In the episode "Dead Dogs and Gym Teachers", when she comes home from waitressing and complains about how little she made in tips that day, Bill says "You're not going to start dancing again, are you?". Bill wasn't happy about his mom seeing Coach Fredricks. Neal made a comment in the episode about how hot Bill's mother was, which repulsed Sam.

In the pilot episode, Neal remarked about asking her to the Homecoming dance, to which Bill replied, "You better not." Claudia Christian played Gloria Haverchuck in two episodes, "Chokin' and Tokin'" and "Dead Dogs and Gym Teachers".

She has also appeared in "Clean and Sober", as a regular on TV in "Babylon 5", and guested on "NYPD Blue" and "Highlander". Claudia has also written a series of children's books and released several music CDs.
3. Perpetually angry teacher Frank Kowchevski is usually lurking around in the halls ready to take someone to the principal's office. What subject did he teach?

Answer: Math

When he wasn't trying to get kids to hurry to class after the bell rang, or accusing Daniel and Lindsay of cheating on a math test, or getting Sam to write a paper after thinking he was defacing the lockers, Mr. Kowchevski taught math and led the mathlete team.

He appeared in eleven of the episodes. Mr. Kowchevski was played by Steve Bannos, who has also appeared in "Statical Planets" (written and directed by Joel Hodgson, who appeared in "Freaks and Geeks" as the clothing salesman) and "Life Sold Separately" (written and directed by "Freaks and Geeks" creator Paul Feig). On TV, Bannos has appeared in "Undeclared" and "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch".

He wrote the "Freaks and Geeks" episode entitled "Smooching and Mooching", and has also written for "Saturday Night Live" and "Brand Spanking New! Doug".
4. Coach Ben Fredricks was the gym teacher of Sam, Neal and Bill, who always played favorites with the jocks. Who played Coach Fredricks?

Answer: Thomas F. Wilson

Coach Fredricks appeared in six episodes of the series. He was the one who nicknamed Sam "Dr. Love" in Health class in the episode "Tests and Breasts", but then sat down and explained the birds and the bees to him. He also gleefully watched the geeks getting creamed during the dodgeball game, and picked last for softball.

He did show he had a softer side in "Dead Dogs and Gym Teachers" when he talked to an upset Bill about his feelings for Bill's mom. Tom Wilson has also appeared in "Let's Get Harry", "Andersonville" and as Biff in the "Back to the Future" movies.

He has also appeared on TV in "Ed" and "Nash Bridges", and lends his voice to "SpongeBob SquarePants" and many video games.
5. Jeff Rosso is the hippie guidance counselor always wanting to rap with students and discuss their problems, even if he has to sing to them. What is his middle name?

Answer: Theodore

Jeff's middle name is mentioned by the secret service agent (Ben Stiller) in the episode "The Little Things". Jeff mentions his name to the agent at the door to the cafeteria where the Vice President is going to speak. The agent then hands the clipboard to Ben Stiller's character, who says the full name, and mentions that Rosso has been red-flagged because of an organization he joined in the 60s. Jeff was always trying to be helpful but often just ended up embarrassing Lindsay in front of her friends.

He was played by Dave "Gruber" Allen, who has also appeared in "Life Sold Separately" (with fellow castmember Steve Bannos), "Crossroads" and "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" (with castmate Seth Rogen). He has also appeared on TV in "Arrested Development", "Newsradio" and "Spin City".
6. What kind of doctor was Neal's dad, Vic Schweiber?

Answer: Dentist

Dr. Schweiber, notorious ladies man, drove a red Corvette with the license plate IFLOSSEM on it. He appeared in three episodes, "The Diary", when he gave Sam, Neal and Bill advice about crank calls, "The Garage Door", when Sam sees him with another woman, and "Noshing and Moshing", when the Schweiber's have their annual Christmas party. All three shows make some reference to his profession. Vic Schweiber was played by Sam McMurray.

He has guested on many TV shows, and plays the recurring character of Doug's supervisor on "The King of Queens".

Answer: Emergency!

Nick's strict Army dad told Nick he needed to keep his grades up to get into the Army, something Nick didn't really want to do. Mr. Andopolis appeared in two episodes, complaining about the band practicing after 5pm in "I'm With the Band", and causing Nick to move out after his dad sold his drums in "Smooching and Mooching". Mr. Andopolis was played by Kevin Tighe.

He played Paramedic Roy DeSoto on "Emergency!", which ran from 1972-1977. He has also appeared in "Eight Men Out", "Road House", "School Ties" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape".
9. Mrs. Schweiber, Neal's mother, claims she would spend more time doing this if she weren't Neal's chauffeur. What sport does she play?

Answer: Tennis

Mrs. Schweiber made the comment to Jean Weir when she was picking Neal up at the Weir's house, that she'd spend more time on the court if it weren't for her full-time job of chauffeuring Neal around. She was played by Amy Aquino, who has also appeared in "Moonstruck", "Working Girl" and "White Oleander", as well as on TV in "Brooklyn Bridge", "Picket Fences" and "ER".
10. Was Kim's mother, Cookie Kelly, married?

Answer: Yes

She was married, but not to Kim's father. In the episode, "Kim Kelly is My Friend", Cookie's husband is eating dinner with her, Kim and Lindsay. When he says Kim is grounded, Kim mentions that he's not her father. In "The Diary", the Weirs have Mrs. Kelly over for dinner after Kim and Lindsay get caught hitch-hiking. Cookie mentions that she used to have a nice house on Maple Drive before her husband left her with two kids and a huge mortgage. Cookie Kelly was played by Ann Dowd, who has also appeared in "The Manchurian Candidate" (2004), "It Could Happen To You", "Philadelphia" and "Lorenzo's Oil".
