Freaks and Geeks Trivia Questions

1. This geek had a crush on Cindy Sanders, two best friends, and over-the-top facial expressions. What was his name?

From Quiz
The Characters of "Freaks and Geeks"

Answer: Sam

Sam Weir's crush on Cindy led him to such things as joining the yearbook committee, changing his hairstyle, wearing a blue disco jumpsuit, and becoming the school mascot.

2. Harold Weir was a man who enforced 'quiet hour' and liked to eat his dinner at the table with his family every evening after a hard day at his store. What kind of store did Harold own?

From Quiz "Freaks and Geeks" Characters Part 1

Answer: Sporting goods store

Harold was protective of his kids, so at times it seemed he was overly strict. Harold's store is mentioned right often, it's called A 1 Sporting Goods. We even get to see the inside when Sam and Cindy go there to sell ads for the yearbook. In "The Little Things", Harold discusses the danger which the national chain of sporting goods superstores pose for mom and pop stores like his. He asks Lindsay to make a plug for the store when she asks Vice President Bush her question at school. Harold was played by former "SCTV" regular Joe Flaherty. He has also appeared in "One Crazy Summer", "Happy Gilmore" and "Slackers".

3. Harris Trinsky is the slightly older geek who Sam, Bill and Neal always turn to for advice. He's also the dungeon master when they play Dungeons and Dragons. What is his girlfriend's name?

From Quiz "Freaks and Geeks" Characters Part 2

Answer: Judith

Harris was played by Stephen Lea Sheppard, and appeared in half of the episodes. Harris mentions Judith on several occasions, such as when the guys are discussing what Sam should get Cindy for their date. They ask Harris what he gets for Judith. He says she usually likes scented bath oils and plenty of time with her man (to which all the guys go "Ewwwww"). Sam, Neal and Bill also asked Harris advice about how to handle Sam's bully, the meaning of a dirty joke, and how to impress Maureen. Daniel even sought out Harris for advice when Lindsay told the freaks they were losers. Stephen Lea Sheppard has also appeared in "The Royal Tenenbaums".

4. What was the title of the theme song to "Freaks and Geeks"?

From Quiz "Freaks and Geeks" - The Music

Answer: Bad Reputation

Originally released on Joan Jett's album "Bad Reputation" in 1981, the song "Bad Reputation" was re-released by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts as a single in 1983.

5. Who catches Daniel getting ready to trip the fire alarm?

From Quiz "Discos and Dragons"

Answer: Mr. Rosso

Daniel knows he's going to fail Mr. Kowchevski's test because the student he buys answers from got hurt in gym class and isn't there. He goes out to the hall, breaks the glass on the fire alarm and is just getting ready to pull it when Jeff Rosso walks up and says, "Hey, better be a fire, bro". Back in his office, Mr. Rosso tells Daniel his punishment will be AV squad the rest of the school year.

6. Who has dinner with the Weirs?

From Quiz "The Little Things"

Answer: Cindy

The impending visit of Vice President George Bush is the topic of discussion over dinner. Sam mentions that Cindy will be introducing Bush since she's the head of the Young Republicans club. When asked if she thinks that's exciting, Lindsay comments that she's a Democrat.

7. What did Nick buy while he and Ken were at a yard sale?

From Quiz "Smooching and Mooching"

Answer: bongos

Ken and Nick were talking about how the yard sale had nothing but junk until Nick saw the bongos. Then he said the yard sale rocked. Ken commented that the bongos would bring the Andopolis drum set to an even 30. Nick corrected him by saying 31, since there are two bongos. I love Nick's comment about the books in the yard sale, "Why do people save their books, it's not like you can read a book twice."

8. Bill is showing Neal and Sam his dance moves because they're talking about what will impress the ladies. What does Neal think will impress women?

From Quiz "Noshing and Moshing"

Answer: a ventriloquist dummy

Neal tells Bill and Sam he's discovered something which will change their lives, and give them power, respect and money. Neal opens a suitcase and says, "Gentlemen, say hello...to Morty", and pulls out a ventriloquist dummy (it's a figure, not a dummy, as Neal keeps correcting everyone) which says, "Hi guys".

9. The director of "The Good Girl", starring Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal, directed this episode. What was his name?

11. Two guys stop Lindsay in the hall and one of them asks her something. What does he ask?

Look closely, the guy who starts to ask but chickens out is Ben Ziff, the terribly annoying intern from the Dell ads. 14. What game does Mr. Weir want the family to play on Friday night?

From Quiz "Carded and Discarded"

Answer: Pit

18. What nickname does Sam receive from Coach Fredricks in sex education class?

From Quiz "Tests and Breasts"

Answer: Dr. Love

Coach Fredricks is discussing the female reproductive organs. Bill and Neal keep making comments, but the Coach only hears Sam telling them to be quiet so he thinks Sam is doing all of the talking. He has Sam go up to the front to teach the class since he knows so much that he doesn't have to pay attention.

19. Who is the group that Lindsay wants to go see in concert?

From Quiz "Dead Dogs and Gym Teachers"

Answer: The Who

Lindsay's father is really skeptical about Lindsay going to any rock concert, and tells her he's going to listen to the record, forwards and backwards, and then he'll decide.

20. Where are Lindsay and Sam's parents going for the weekend?

From Quiz "Beers and Weirs"

They're going to a convention. They were going to get Mrs. Amindala to watch Sam and Lindsay, but the kids convinced them they could take care of themselves.

21. What does Mrs. Weir want Sam and Lindsay to do on Saturday night?

From Quiz 'Freaks and Geeks' - The Pilot

Answer: Go to the Homecoming dance

Lindsay says she's not going and Sam is planning on seeing "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" two times in a row with Bill and Neal.

22. Gloria Haverchuck was Bill's divorced mom. Which one of Bill's teachers did she date?

From Quiz "Freaks and Geeks" Characters Part 1

Answer: Coach Fredricks

Bill's mom was more hip than the other moms, and apparently used to work as a dancer. In the episode "Dead Dogs and Gym Teachers", when she comes home from waitressing and complains about how little she made in tips that day, Bill says "You're not going to start dancing again, are you?". Bill wasn't happy about his mom seeing Coach Fredricks. Neal made a comment in the episode about how hot Bill's mother was, which repulsed Sam. In the pilot episode, Neal remarked about asking her to the Homecoming dance, to which Bill replied, "You better not." Claudia Christian played Gloria Haverchuck in two episodes, "Chokin' and Tokin'" and "Dead Dogs and Gym Teachers". She has also appeared in "Clean and Sober", as a regular on TV in "Babylon 5", and guested on "NYPD Blue" and "Highlander". Claudia has also written a series of children's books and released several music CDs.

23. Sam Weir is a kid who wants to grow up, and yet still wants to hang on to some bit of childhood (like trick or treating one last time). Who played Sam?

From Quiz "Freaks and Geeks" Characters Part 2

Answer: John Francis Daley

Sam had ups and downs at high school. He was locked out of the locker room naked by his bully, Alan, but then everyone thought he was cool because he streaked. He liked Cindy and wanted her to be his girlfriend, but wasn't sure he was ready for the things that come with having a girlfriend, like making out all of the time. John Francis Daley, who has also appeared in "View From the Top", was a series regular on "The Geena Davis Show" and played a recurring character on "Boston Public".

24. What street did the Weirs live on?

From Quiz Trivial Details From 'Freaks and Geeks'

Answer: Gnome Drive

Neal mentions it in the "Beers and Weirs" episode when he makes the phone call to the police to report a noisy party. He says the address is 13 Gnome Drive. You can also sort of make it out on the envelope addressed to Lindsay from her aunt, when she receives the birthday card with $300 in it, in "Carded and Discarded".

25. What kind of vehicle did Daniel Desario drive?

From Quiz "Freaks and Geeks" Characters Part 3

Answer: Trans Am

Daniel was a little older than the others because he had been left back a couple of years. Lindsay liked Daniel, but he and Kim were an item. He was a tough guy, but enjoyed playing Dungeons and Dragons with the geeks, which made them feel a little less geeky. Daniel was played by James Franco who has also appeared in "Spider-Man", "Spider-Man 2", "City by the Sea" and "Whatever It Takes". He also played the title role in the TV movie "James Dean", for which he won a Best Actor Golden Globe.

26. In the pilot episode, the school holds their Homecoming Dance, which Lindsay and Sam attend. What song is playing at the end when Sam and Cindy, and Lindsay and Eli dance?

From Quiz "Freaks and Geeks" - The Music

Answer: Come Sail Away

Sam is there to collect the dance Cindy Sanders promised him when she declined his invitation because she already had a date. The beginning of the song is slow (Sam was planning on a slow dance), but by the time Sam leads Cindy to the other side of the dance floor, the music has become faster. Lindsay is at the dance because it was her punishment from Mr. Rosso for skipping school. After Mr. Rosso makes Lindsay realize that if being made to go to the dance is the worst thing to happen to her, then she's doing alright, Lindsay stops pouting and asks Eli to dance with her. "Come Sail Away" is from "Grand Illusion", by Styx. Other songs played in this episode are "Runnin' With the Devil", "Renegade" and "I'm Alright".

27. What movie did Mr. Fleck have the 16mm print of for the AV geeks to watch?

From Quiz "Discos and Dragons"

Answer: Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Bill, Neal and Sam had just been 'cleaned out' by some jocks and were really tired of being geeks. Mr. Fleck gave them an illustration of how the jocks' lives would turn out in comparison to theirs, which boosted their spirits a little. Then he showed them the reels of Monty Python he had gotten in a trade with another school, and told them they need to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

28. Nick's father does something that makes Nick so mad he leaves home. What does Mr. Andopolis do?

From Quiz "Smooching and Mooching"

Answer: He sells Nick's drums

Nick and Ken go into Nick's basement to find a practically empty space where Nick's drums used to be. Ken asks an astonished Nick, "Um, Nick, where are your drums?" Mr. Andopolis sold Nick's drums because Nick didn't listen to his father when he told him to clean up his act because his school grades were awful.

29. The Weir family is sitting together eating ice cream and watching "Charlie's Angels" on TV. When Mr. Weir asks Sam who his favorite Angel is, what is Sam's reply?

From Quiz "Chokin' and Tokin'"

Answer: Bosley

Sam is at the TV turning the channel as his father directs him (this is a 1980 remote control). When Mr. Weir asks Sam who his favorite Angel is, Sam says he likes Bosley because he's funny, to which Mr. Weir replies that no one watches the show for Bosley.

30. In the store, what new-fangled item does Jean stop to look at, when Sam says he's going to go look at the Ataris?

From Quiz "The Garage Door"

Answer: microwave oven

The salesman demonstrates how fast a steak will thaw. Jean seems intrigued, but I feel sure Harold wouldn't let her have a microwave.
