Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The Abyss" - Does Kimblee escape the explosions in Baschool alive?

Answer: Yes

The storm in Baschool passes and Miles makes clear to Ed that he plans to kill Kimblee and his guards with a sniper. Ed, however, holds true to his decision not to shed blood. Ed ends up admitting to Kimblee that the others plan to kill him, but it's already apparent.

At the large mineshaft in the center of the abandoned city, Kimblee distracts the others with a show of alchemy and sets his chimeras after the Fullmetal Alchemist. Ed gets the upper hand when he finds dynamite though, and the battle escalates further when Kimblee unleashes the power of his Philosopher's Stone, destroying the shaft. Kimblee gets away unharmed, but Ed, trapped at the bottom of the mine and impaled on a metal pole, has to use alchemy and convince the chimeras to help him.

It's only in believing in the healing powers of alchemy that Ed is able to save his own life...for now. The chimeras grab him, and the shard of Philosopher's Stone, and carry him off. Emerging from the mines, the escape group takes Scar's suggestion to head to Asbeck to the Ishvalan refugee Camp there, mainly because they locate Alphonse, buried in the snow, and he warns them of the recent hostility in Briggs.

When Ed falls unconscious, Al, tenuously linked to his brother, also collapses.
2. "Signs of a Counteroffensive" - May and Dr. Marcoh, reading the Ishvalan notes linking alchemy and Alkahestry, note the frequent reoccurrence of what word?

Answer: Gold

Taking refuge in a cabin on their way to Asbeck, the group sets down the disassembled Al (who they had to carry) and begins decoding the Ishvalan notebook, still considering the links between gold and immortality. When the others begin to reassemble Al, May is the one who considers reassembling the book, so she pulls apart the pages and sets to work linking the occurrences of each key phrase. When she finishes, she is able to create the image of the Amestrian Transmutation Circle between the symbols on the pages and, flipping it all over, she makes a completely new circle but with Xingese Alkahestry instead.
In the tunnels beneath Baschool, Kimblee gives up on finding the escaped group when he finds access to the Homunculus tunnel. There, he comes face to face with Pride and is told to make haste in carving a Crest of Blood in Briggs. Sloth, meanwhile, finishes the tunnel.
In Liore, Van Hohenheim searches the Church of Lido and finds the track hidden there, all the way across Amestris. There he finds Pride waiting, trapped in the hole (and Central) like the Dwarf in the Flask he once knew. Given its original appearance, he deduces that Pride is the pure essence of Father and he vows to drop in on him in Central, effectively sending a declaration of war.
Up north, Drachma forces approach Fort Briggs from the north and Kimblee is at their side. Meanwhile, in Asbeck, Zampano (one of the chimeras, gives away Dr. Marcoh's location to none other than Envy and Fuhrer King Bradley.
3. "Bite of the Ant" - Who uses alchemy to reduce Envy to his true form?

Answer: Dr. Marcoh

While it's not clear to Fort Briggs, the forces from Drachma were intentionally lied to by Kimblee who confirmed that the Crest was carved in the final location.
In Asbeck, Zampano, having given away the group's location, leads Envy to Dr. Marcoh but reveals that he lied about his intent; he lured the Homunculus out, taking advantage of his cruelty. Walking across a snowy field, Envy is unable to determine the locations of the apparent landmines created by May using remote Alkahestry and feeling trapped, he transforms into his larger form. Despite Scar's immense destructive powers, it's actually Dr. Marcoh, trapped in Envy's grasp, who uses his own alchemy to destroy Envy since he knows the way to reverse the power of the Philosopher's Stones he helped create. Envy reduces to the size of a small worm and is, effectively, defeated and placed into a glass jar. Following this, Scar and Dr. Marcoh head out together to make things right while may is convinced to head back to Xing, using Envy as proof of immortality to help her clan. The rest of the group heads south to Liore...only to meet Van Hohenheim.
In Central, General Armstrong reunites with her brother minutes before discovering one of the plans hidden by the higher-ups in the government-- they've been using alchemy to create an army.
4. "Revving at Full Throttle" - Greed's memories reemerge despite his purged soul when which of the following happens?

Answer: He kills a former friend

When Van Hohenheim and Al reunite in Liore it soon becomes apparent that Al still trusts in his father and the two reveal what they know about the Transmutation Circle before talking about each other (Van Hohenheim's past, for instance, is a long story). Both fear for Ed since he's still missing.
The truth is, Ed is still in the North. After taking out money to pay for his medical bills, he and his two chimera henchmen are able to escape the Central forces and head out on the run. Ed knows he needs to reunite with his brother, but doesn't know where to start.
General Armstrong learns that the alchemical army is currently an army of dummies who, immortal, can operate as untouchable soldiers when a soul is inserted into them. The souls, of course, will come from their enemies. The conversation is overheard by one of Greed's former henchmen who came from Dublith looking for him. While escaping, he runs into and is killed by Greed in his new form (as Ling), but this causes problems for the Homunculus who, remembering his former companion and being urged by Ling from within, is convinced to fight back. That night, Greed pays a visit to Fuhrer King Bradley at home and draws his weapons.
5. "The Promised Day" - In which season is the solar eclipse and the Promised Day?

Answer: Spring

Although Greed and Wrath fight in front of the other Bradley family members, Greed escapes at the last moment. Elsewhere in Central, General Armstrong asks her father to retire and, surprisingly, he heads to Xing while she and Major Armstrong fight. She wins.
May, across the map in Youswell, finds kind people willing to take her in before she recrosses the desert. It's actually Envy who urges May to go to Central to save their lives. Little does she know, he just needs a Philosopher's Stone to get his proper form back.
Ed and his chimera followers reach the hideout destroyed by Gluttony just before Greed appears, though it's Ling who's taken over when the homunculus' guard is down. Ling reveals that Father is going to open the portal in Amestris on the Day of Reckoning and that that would be the best opportunity for the Elrics to get their bodies back. When Greed reemerges, he offers that Ed and his friends could follow as his henchmen and, surprisingly, Ed accepts the offer since they all want to get back at the homunculi.

Up in the north, Izumi starts a chain reaction by giving a message (from Van Hohenheim) to Miles. This message goes through Felman...then through Grumman...to Hawkeye's friend Rebecca. Rebecca sends the message through her to Havoc in Central who, in turn, informs Colonel Mustang. The note suggests to be prepared for the coming spring when the Promised Day arrives. The north and the east will make their move then.
6. "Looming Shadows" - The Fuhrer King's train is destroyed en route to Central, but where?

Answer: Over a ravine

Spring arrives and Miles is in Resembool replenishing water tanks on the way to the training exercises with the east. The tanks actually contain Winry who, upon returning to her home, discovers Ed eating in her room. He and his group returned to Resembool to get an automail tune-up. Before Ed leaves, Winry forces him to promise to save Amestris and get his and Al's body back.
In Liore, Dr. Marcoh and Scar arrive to find Yoki and the other chimeras as they make their way up to Central. On their way, a group of Ishvalan people join them as allies to change Amestris for the better.
The training exercise in the East begins and both Grumman and Miles are there leading the troops. Unfortunately, Fuhrer King Bradley is also present...and watching. In the trainyard, Alphonse has problems keeping himself connected to his body, realizing that rejection nears. Gluttony and Pride sneak up on him, in town for the training exercises, and capture him when he's helpless.
Bradley is told the entire plan between the north and the east by a turncoat; the Ishvalans were to attack Central while they were distracted. The Fuhrer heads back to Central by train, but the car is detached and destroyed on a bridge over a ravine. The Fuhrer, missing, is considered dead by the superiors in Central and Armstrong, having been approached by Colonel Mustang at her mansion, considers making a move. Unfortunately for her, with Wrath gone, Sloth and Father are watching over.
7. "Emissary of Darkness" - To prevent Pride from attacking, Ed causes which of these?

Answer: Blackout

Al, unconscious, is awakened by Pride.
In the town of Kanama, Ed finally catches up with Van Hohenheim and learns the truth, discovering that his father would sacrifice himself as a Philosopher's Stone to bring back his boys' bodies. Ed refuses this though and angrily begins to depart. Before he does, he informs his father of his mother's final words and turns back to see him crying.
Fuhrer Bradley's remains have yet to be found yet Grumman and Miles are both looking for the body. Grumman insists on continuing the search simply to comfort himself, but plans to go into Central when and if Mustang and Armstrong make their moves.
As Ed, Greed, and the chimeras depart Kanama, Alphonse emerges from the Shadows. It soon becomes apparent when Ling, emerging, warns him that Pride has taken over the armor. To combat the shadows, Ed turns out the lights and, using alchemy, causes a blackout to prevent Pride from casting shadows. Greed hypothesizes that Selim himself is likely in the trees, but Gluttony is also present and searching for the group solely through sense of smell. Ling urges Greed to switch with him since he can identify the presence of a Homunculus just as Gluttony opens wide. Before he can eat the others, he's brought down by Lan Fan with her brand new Automail arm.
8. "The Oath in the Tunnel" - Pride, in an attempt to turn the battle in his favour, devours which other Homunculus?

Answer: Gluttony

Lan Fan and Ling continue to fight Gluttony while Fu emerges and explains to Ed that he can track the Homunculi with the Dragon's Pulse, reading the flow of chi. As such, he can act in the darkness. He also happens to have flash grenades at his disposal. Just as Kanaman locals bring a lantern into the forest, they give Pride the chance he needs to strike out, and the lantern subsequently sets a fire enough to turn things around. Fu moves in with a flash grenade and it works like magic; the light is enough to force Pride back and make him vacate Al's armor. Instead of standing down, Pride consumes Gluttony, harvests his soul, and eats his Philosopher's Stone, taking on all of his traits in the process. Doing this, he discovers that Van Hohenheim is near.
In Central, Madam Christmas is discovered by the military to be Col. Mustang's foster mother. It's too late though; they've escaped into the sewers and destroyed her establishment. Mustang rendezvous with the members of his team he could amass-- Hawkeye, Breda, and Fuery. He orders them not to die.
Father sits behind the table of high officials with Sloth. They worry about Mustang as Gen. Armstrong insists upon his next course of action; she believes the Fuhrer's wife will be a hostage but Father sighs it off. That night, Mrs. Bradley is taken at gunpoint by Hawkeye and Mustang.
9. "Filial Affection" - Who traps themselves with Pride in an attempt to save everyone else?

Answer: Alphonse

The fight outside of Kanama continues and it soon becomes clear that Ed, Greed, and Lan Fan will be unable to keep up. Van Hohenheim, off to the side, wakes up Alphonse and the two of them think of a plan. Hohenheim steps forward as a distraction and allows Al to get close before closing them into an orb of solid earth. Al plans to sit in the dark with the powerless Homunculus until the Promised Day is over. Greed flees the battle alone and plans to head to Central to attack. Meanwhile, Scar and his group reach Central that evening, discovering that May has also passed through.

When the sun rises, Fu returns to Central to investigate while Mustang and his squad start to cause trouble for the local militia. The military doesn't care that they have a hostage though; when they corner them in a building, holding mrs. Bradley at gunpoint, they say that Mustang is the only one they need alive.
10. "Upheaval in Central" - How does Ed recommend his team reach the tunnels beneath Central?

Answer: Via the Third Laboratory

Central's forces are stopped at the last moment when Mustang's men step in and the Fuhrer's wife is shocked, but understanding. Mustang's platoon, as is discovered soon after, won't kill anyone but it will incapacitate them, systematically whittling down the numbers. Armstrong asks the others if she can lead the battalion but they refuse as her own forces from the forces of the north step in as if from nowhere; really, they hid in the Armstrong mansion. Armstrong, stepping up, murders one of the Generals and holds the other hostage, revealing her true intent.
Hawkeye's friend Rebecca comes in with the supplies and the others are amazed to find Maria Ross returning to active duty in the driver's seat. The Xingese supplies at their disposal were brought in by none other than Havoc.
Van Hohenheim suggests that bringing down the main structure in Central will destroy the dwarf's flask while Scar recommends entering the tunnels of chimeras beneath the city. Coincidentally, May is doing just that with Envy...just before the military blocks off the route. Ed and company head to the Third Laboratory instead and split up, Ed taking Scar and the chimeras and Van Hohenheim going with Lan Fan (who he sends off to search for Ling).
In the tunnels, something major is occurring; one of the Generals has activated the alchemical soldiers and begun the soul-binding process in a desperate attempt to hold back the rebels.
