Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 6th season recurring firefighter character Stu Szczelaszczyk was also known by which nickname?

Answer: Stu Lotta Zs

He was only featured in four episodes but was included in the series finale as being promoted and receiving a medal of honor for a rescue at a clothing garment factory.
2. "Third Watch" was twice involved in a two-part crossover episode with another show. What were the shows?

Answer: "Medical Investigation" and "ER"

The "ER" cross-over episode occurred during the third season of "Third Watch" when a character from "ER" came to NYC looking for a lost niece. The "Medical Investigation" cross-over episode occurred during the sixth and final season of "Third Watch" when a jewelery store robbery/shooting evolved into a hunt for the source of an infectious disease that proved to be fatal.
3. A multi-season evolving plot about the truth behind the cause of death of Ty Davis' father ended in which character's father committing suicide?

Answer: Brendan Finney

Brendan's father was Captain Cathal (CT) Finney, head of the Internal Affairs Bureau. He was the man who orchestrated Tyrone Sr's death. It was during season 6 when testimonies, admissions of participation, and evidence were collected and presented to CT Finney.

He was given the ultimatum of turning himself in the next morning or having a warrant sworn out for him. That night he committed suicide via CO2 poisoning with his car in his garage. Upon coming across his deceased father, Brendan asked Ty to help him manipulate the scene to seem like an accident so his mother wouldn't lose his benefits and pension.
4. Which paramedic character craved "exciting" calls like the ones the character got at their Bedstuy station prior to being transferred to the "55"?

Answer: Grace Foster

Grace was on the receiving end of a talking to by Carlos after she made too many snarky comments about the kinds of calls she's had to do with her new post.

Carlos: "I understand you miss your old detail but we're no country club."
Grace: (starts walking away) "Yeah. Okay."
Carlos: "Don't walk away from me. Come back here." (Grace comes back) "Look you have no idea how many calls we take, how many lives we've saved, and lost. I don't care if you came from Bedstuy or Baghdad. You're not going to minimize my experience just because it isn't yours. So either you respect us like the way we respect you, or go back to that war zone you'd rather be in. Got it?"
Grace: (walking away past Carlos' partner) "Man's got stones."
5. During a multi-episode arc that led into the series finale, what musician portrayed a criminal kingpin?

Answer: Wyclef Jean

Wyclef Jean portrayed Marcel Hollis, an organized crime leader who eliminated his competition and forged a mental "tug of war" with Sgt. Cruz.
6. Which other musician also guest-starred in an episode centering on the issue of bootleg music CDs?

Answer: DMX

DMX portrayed a musician whose lyrics encouraged his fans to exact street justice against those who sell bootleg CDs on the streets.
7. What was the nationality of the mobster who killed John Sullivan's wife and son?

Answer: Russian

The mobster's name was Fyodor Chevchenko. He was ultimately killed by Sullivan in cold blood as revenge, although he made the situation sound like it was self-defence.
8. Who delivered the eulogy at Alex Taylor's funeral?

Answer: Carlos Nieto

Monte Parker was asked to deliver the eulogy. Carlos visited him before heading to the funeral (which was held on their firefighting boat) and Monte broke down about Alex dying under his watch, and that he forced her to be a paramedic that day instead of a firefighter and she really didn't want to do that.

He felt she died doing something she hated and he blamed himself. Carlos continued on to the funeral and delivered a eulogy on the spot. The camera then panned to Monte Parker watching the funeral from a distance.
9. Why did Monte Parker and Dr. Sara Morales break up?

Answer: She received a Head of ER position in Philadelphia and Monte wouldn't go with her.

Morales received an offer to become the head of the ER at a Philadelphia hospital, and went with Monte to a special dinner at her prospective employer. Monte even visited a local Philadelphia paramedic station and learned that their medics make more than firefighters. Ultimately he wouldn't go with her because he didn't want to go to Philadelphia and also due to his traditional view that being the "man" meant he should be the breadwinner.
10. Of all the characters depicted in the series finale, which one did not survive?

Answer: Maritza Cruz

Earlier in the series it was revealed Cruz had a terminal medical issue. During the series finale she committed suicide when she took out Marcel Hollis with a grenade. According to the voiceover at the end of the episode, Cruz's partner, Manny, "places a rose on her grave every day".
