Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Pam becomes friends with Alex, a fellow student at the Pratt Institute. There is an implication that he has a crush on Pam in the episodes he appears in. Who plays the character Alex?

Answer: Rich Sommer

I always felt that the show's writers had introduced the character of Alex to add some tension into Jim and Pam's relationship, though it turned out to be not much of anything at least from Pam's side. Rich Sommer is known for his roles on the TV series "Mad Men" and in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada".
2. Toward the end of Season Five, a new receptionist is hired, Kelly Erin Hannon. She is forced to go by "Erin" to avoid confusion with Kelly Kapoor. Who is the comedian who plays Erin?

Answer: Ellie Kemper

Ellie is best known as a comedy writer and comedian, including improv and internet-based sketches. She achieved some notoriety for a hilarious but off-color internet video in 2007 (as this is a family-oriented site, I won't go into details!).
3. No quiz on intermittent characters would be complete without the vile buffoon played by David Koechner. What is the name of this traveling sales representative who drives a red Corvette?

Answer: Todd Packer

David Koechner is known for his role as T-Bones in "The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show" on television. His character on "The Office," Todd Packer, is an unreconstructed sexist, sometime friend of Michael Scott, and all-around obnoxious human being. He was the source of the foul substance deposited on the floor in Michael's office in the episode "The Carpet."
4. Who could forget Elizabeth the Stripper? Played by Jackie Debatin, Elizabeth is first hired as a stripper for Bob Vance's bachelor party. How was she dressed for her second appearance?

Answer: As a nurse

Elizabeth was first hired by Dwight for the bachelor party in the episode "Ben Franklin," and when she was not allowed to strip, Dwight put her to work in accounting. There is irony at work here. In real life, Jackie Debatin, in addition to her acting career, owns an accounting firm in Los Angeles.

In the Fun Run" episode, Elizabeth is hired to accept the giant check for rabies awareness. One of the funnier moments in the history of "The Office" occurs when Michael sees her walking toward him in her (stripper) nurse's costume, recognizes her, and says "Wow, very cool you went back and got your degree."
5. Larry Wilmore of the "Daily Show" plays a Mr. Brown, who comes to the Scranton branch to deliver a lecture on a topic often at play in that branch. What was his lecture on?

Answer: Diversity

Wilmore appears in two episodes of "The Office," most particularly to give the diversity seminar to the Scranton branch in the "Diversity Day" episode. The immediate reason for Corporate wanting the branch to have the lecture was Michael's behavior, especially his offensive impersonation of Chris Rock.
6. What occasional character doesn't want to be defined by his/her religion, but points out that he/she "likes listening to hip hop and National Public Radio, and is restoring a 1967 Corvette"?

Answer: Sadiq, the computer support person

Michael asks each of the employees to declare their religion in the "Fun Run" episode. Sadiq, played by Omi Vaidya, indicates he is a Sikh, but hates to be defined by that, and then mentions some of his interests. Michael, of course, ignores all that and simply brands him as a Sikh. Vaidya is an actor and film editor primarily known for his TV work.
7. Carol Stills, who played a real estate agent and one-time girlfriend of Michael Scott, is married to one of the cast members. Which one?

Answer: Steve Carell

Carol Stills is played by Nancy Walls, real-life wife of Steve Carell, who of course plays Michael Scott. My favorite Carol-Michael moment came when Michael sent out his Christmas cards with a photo of Carol and her children and, Photoshopped in, Michael himself. He had replaced her ex-husband with his own photo, without her knowledge, and turned it into his card! At that point, Carol broke up with Michael.
8. We know that Amy Adams guest starred as Katy Moore, who sold her purses in the Scranton branch in the "Hot Girl" episode, and who subsequently dated Jim Halpert. But what was the occasion during which Jim broke up with her?

Answer: The Booze Cruise

During the "Booze Cruise" episode, when Roy announces a date for his and Pam's wedding, Jim realizes that his relationship with Katy is not serious and does not have a future. He breaks up with her, spurred on no doubt by how crushed he is over the date for Pam's wedding being set. That same episode, against all common sense, he confesses his feelings for Pam to Michael, a move that will come back to haunt him in a later episode.
9. When the Stamford branch closes, a number of employees transfer to Scranton. One of them, Martin Nash, is an ex-convict. Dunder Mifflin receives a salary subsidy for employing him. What crime had he committed?

Answer: Insider trading

When Martin's past is revealed, Michael at first goes way overboard in pretending to trust Martin. However, Martin's tales of how cushy life was at his minimum security, white collar crime prison make the employees of the Scranton branch declare that it sounds better than their life at Dunder Mifflin. So Michael creates a skit with him playing "Prison Mike" to convince the staff how terrible prison is.

The Martin Nash character is played by Wayne Wilderson, an actor who has appeared in guest spots in numerous TV shows. If he looks familiar to you, it might be because he has a very successful career in commercials, including for Wendy's, Reebok, Toyota, Chevrolet, Mitsubishi, and PlayStation.
10. With which former employee of Jan Levinson's at corporate headquarters did Jan most likely have a one-night stand?

Answer: Hunter

From the very first episode that Hunter, Jan's administrative assistant, was in, Michael Scott was jealous of him, and as events unfolded Michael picked up on several clues that Jan and Hunter may have had at least a one night affair. The possibility, and Jan's personality, is best hinted at by her product description of her "Hunter Green" candle: "This youthful, firm scent will leave your mouth watering. While designing this candle I felt like a college girl again. Just as Eve was tempted by a decadent apple, you'll be tempted by the most erotic scent of my collection, 'Hunter Green.'"
