1. Following Sir Francis Walsingham's death where was Essex sent, much to his delight?

Answer: Ireland

The Queen appointed him as Earl Marshall of Ireland and he was ordered to crush the rebellious Earl of Tyrone. This never happened, much to Essex's chagrin. He made peace with Tyrone, much to the Queen's annoyance.
2. Following his failure, when did Essex return to the Queen?

Answer: Early morning

Essex appeared in the palace unannounced and without the Queen's permission. She hastily put on her royal night cap so Essex wouldn't see her without her glorious attire. In other words she didn't have her glorious gowns, wigs or makeup.
3. Who went with Queen Elizabeth to meet King James VI of Scotland?

Answer: Robert Cecil

Elizabeth had arranged for someone to bring her a note so she could watch Cecil and James at her leisure. Cecil and the Scottish king then talked of the succession, the Queen and of course Essex.
4. Where did Essex keep his letters from King James?

Answer: In a pouch around his neck

Apparently the Queen had summoned Lady Essex (formally Frances Walsingham) and questioned her if her husband had received any letters from King James. Lady Essex then admitted to where the letters where and was left stunned in the hallway by the Queen. The Queen had left her there screaming for the guards as loud as she could.

To prevent him from going to Lisbon, the Queen had given him the tax on sweet wines, something that was previously held by the Earl of Leicester. Following his unannounced return from Ireland and proof of having letters from King James, the Queen revoked the tax.

Answer: Francis Bacon

Essex had brought him to court and at first they were friends. The Queen ordered Essex to court to attend a Council meeting and sent Bacon to tell him so. Not believing the summons, Essex imprisoned Francis Bacon at Essex House and Bacon never forgot it. Crossing his friend was a no-no and had he not done so he might not have received his fate.

He might have received life in prison at the very least but now no one was on his side.

Well it should have been choice "Do not punish my family for my misdeeds," but with one stroke Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex; stepson of The Earl of Leicester and last favorite of Queen Elizabeth I of England, was dead.

The Queen had asked Cecil if he was happy with his marriage. He responded that he was very happy and that she could overlook his deformity. It's been reported that Cecil had a hump on his back. In this series, Cecil was portrayed with the hump. In the Glenda Jackson version, he had one shoulder slightly higher than the other.

One of the Queen's ladies went to Cecil to tell him that the Queen had been up for many hours. It was clear the Queen's time was at an end and Cecil tried to urge her to bed.

She was lying in bed with a finger in her mouth and asked to get up. After that, she walked to Leicester's rooms where she remained. She was 69 years old and had reigned for 45 years. With her death, the last of the Tudors was gone.
