"Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" - Season 1 Quiz

The pilot episode of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" introduces Alana Thompson, also known as 'Honey Boo Boo', who happens to have gotten her start in child beauty pageants. It just so happens her whole family is TV-ready, TLC has brought the cameras along to McIntyre, Georgia for the ride.
The family includes Alana's mother, June ('Mama'), and father, Mike ('Sugar Bear'), and three sisters: Lauryn ('Pumpkin'), Anna ('Chickadee'), and Jessica ('Chubbs'). Honey Boo Boo herself tells us that Anna's also the pregnant-est. There's also a pig running around the house occasionally, which only makes sense. With a huge pageant coming up in the end of the summer, the whole family is banding together to prepare their youngest for the big win.

The first episode is punctuated by a weekend pageant for Boo Boo and the annual Redneck Games. Mama compares the latter event to the Olympics (Pumpkin bobs for pig feet at one point) and comments on the overweight women ("All that vajiggle jaggle is not beautimous") before telling the girls not to jump into a pool which may or may not contain flesh-eating bacteria. The girls in the family decide to lose weight after a weigh-in and then they head to the Beautiful Faces of Georgia Pageant (Boo Boo doesn't win).

Answer: Glitzy

After losing the pageant in the pilot episode, the family buys a teacup pig to cheer up their youngest daughter (who names it Glitzy and plans to bring it to 'glitz pageants'). This purchase, of course, includes the setup of a baby pen which proves too difficult for five people to create.

Following up on the constructive criticisms of the judges at the previous pageant, the family invests in etiquette lessons. This does not bode well either, especially considering the squealing piglet. In the words of Mama, "No one can be proper and etiquettely all the time." The girls prove this.

At the end of the week, Mama and Sugar Bear take Honey Boo Boo to an auction for food and effectively go against their diet. They also head to the doctor to get Anna an ultrasound. Focus shifts to an upcoming pageant though, of course.

Answer: Extreme couponing

In episode three, the family goes couponing at the local Piggly Wiggly grocery store. Although Mama calls it "a serious addiction", they make good ground saving money for Alana's new pageant coach and dress for the end of the summer, especially since her whole routine is being revamped. It's clear that our little Honey Boo Boo, while enthusiastic, needs some work to prepare for the event.

The women of the family weigh in for their diet/competition and, to their delight, they've all lost weight except Pumpkin. Soon after, Anna's baby shower is held. Mama discusses Anna's baby-daddy, but he's not in the picture. Pumpkin brings Glitzy out during the shower and it's almost nightmarish.

In episode four, the girls head to the spa; Honey Boo Boo and Mama plan to get facials, the former for her upcoming pageants and the latter for her anniversary date with Sugar Bear-- they've been together, unwed, for eight years (he's only Alana's dad). When the girls get a pedicure, Mama makes a stand. One of her toes was squashed by a forklift many years earlier, so she always wears socks. The spa employees are not thrilled.

Mama and Sugar Bear head out on a date (their first without the kids around) and he presents her with some gifts...a card and a large, metal deer. Mama doesn't like the deer. Mama doesn't like what the kids do while she's gone either-- they use the hundreds of rolls of toilet paper, the fruits of their couponing labour, to cover everything in and around the house. The kids argue that the toilet paper was all free.

During a game-changing moment, Mama and Honey Boo Boo discover that the girl's glitz dress doesn't fit anymore. During the fitting, for some reason, Alana brings the pig along for its own dress. This results in as much screaming as you'd expect. Egads.

Answer: Sugar Bear

Episode five demonstrates the family's charitable side as they prepare for Christmas in July. This proves an ordeal in itself due to the sweltering heat. In the meantime, Mama takes Alana to the high school to use the auditorium stage to practice her routine, possibly the most difficult she's ever done, for her Rock Pageant.

But nothing can compare Alana for the family's decision to return Glitzy to the breeder because they can't take care of it anymore, which is only fair. Alana is equally concerned that she won't have her good luck charm heading into the pageant. Of course, then the viewer is treated to a montage of pig moments from three episodes prior.

To deal with the loss, the family (and their friend, 'Crazy' Tony), head out on the four-wheelers. This leads to a number of seemingly-dangerous stunts; it doesn't end when a four-wheeler flips onto Tony in a ditch either.

In the night, Anna starts having pains, almost like contractions. An ambulance shows up and takes her to the hospital.

In episode six, the baby doesn't come. Anna is brought home from the hospital and told to stay on a regimen of strict bed rest. Another weigh-in is held; Pumpkin gains more weight while Chubbs loses more. To Mama's shock, she only loses about a pound and a half. As a reward, she takes the kids to a water park. Before the trip is over, there's more talk of the forklift foot. Of course.

At home, it's time to get ready for the Rock Star Diva Pageant. This means a paint-on tan for Honey Boo Boo. They head to Forsyth, Georgia for this one and they bring their new coach and new dress. Alana later admits that her mother proves to be distracting from the audience. After an Elvis-themed talent portion, Alana wins Queen in her age division. She does not win 'Rock Star Grand Supreme'.

Answer: A dumpster

The family goes to 'Shh! It's a Wig', a store in Macon, Georgia, to get Alana a new hairpiece in episode seven. This trip proves unnecessary. When the family heads home they whine about the Georgia heat until Sugar Bear reveals a surprise-- a new pool. The family takes it upon themselves to set it up in the sweltering heat. Sugar Bear gives them two months before they break it; it starts leaking in two hours.

Over dinner at a sit-down barbeque restaurant, the girls talk about why Mama might not want to marry Sugar Bear. Mama refers to him as "one of those emotionless men" though he says he loves the family.

For the Fourth of July, the family goes to Crazy Tony's for fireworks and four-wheeling. At one point, they go to the 'Wilkinson County Department Store'-- this turns out to be a dumpster. This episode ends with fireworks on Independence Day.

In the eighth episode, Alana and Sugar Bear head out on a father-daughter date at a place called the Fun Factory. The subsequent adventures on a roller-skating rink prove difficult for both of them; they leave the place with bruises and an inflatable hammer.

Back at home, the Thompsons decide to play a game at home to cure their boredom; they play 'Guess Whose Breath?' This involves blindfolding someone and then having them guess someone's breath. The game ends when a pregnant Anna has an accident.

To save money for the pageant, the family decides to use Alana's idea to sell lemonade in their yard. Fortunately, Alana is the only one to sell the lemonade; none of the other girls offer any initiative. For dinner, the family decides to have 'sketti' (spaghetti) with a butter-ketchup sauce.

To begin episode nine, Mama takes Alana to the salon to learn how to do her daughter's make-up before pageants. This way, she can save time and money. This proves problematic, especially since Mama doesn't use make-up. After this, the family goes on a sporting streak and drives to the Bingo hall to earn a bit of money for the pageant the following week. They don't win.

Mama and Alana also end up meeting with none other than Miss Georgia 2011, Michaela Lackey. Michaela says that Alana has the attitude to be a pageant star, for sure, but needs to improve her manners and etiquette.

To prepare for Alana's seventh birthday, the Thompson girls, too poor to shop, take items from Mama's shelves and wrap them instead. A party is thrown and the Thompsons bring in a large, inflatable water slide. The party ends up being a success but they can't convince Mama to ride the slide.

Answer: Kaitlyn is born with three thumbs

The Thompsons decide to go to a boat launch to take a family portrait in episode ten (which is odd considering a new family member would be added within the week). The photo shoot goes poorly, especially when the family is asked to cooperate with one another.

A couple of days after, Anna is sent to the hospital with labour contractions. Kaitlyn is born that evening. To the family's surprise, however, the baby is born with an extra thumb on its right hand. Sugar Bear likens the hand to a Swiss army knife.

Despite the new addition to the family, Mama finds Alana a new pageant to join-- the catch is that she only has two days to prepare. Luckily, her Uncle Poodle (Sugar Bear's youngest brother, Lee) is back in town and can teach her a new routine.

When the family heads to Cochran for the Sparkle and Shine Pageant, Alana is successful in both the Beauty and Swimwear competitions. When the crowning ceremony is held, Alana doesn't take home the ultimate Grand Supreme title. She does, however, win People's Choice. As a surprise, the family brings out Glitzy the Pig. Although Alana can't take her good luck charm home, she is allowed to visit the breeder whenever she wants. As the family heads home, they look forward to their next adventure.
