[Mary]: "Well, you don't know, I always read your mail."
Later on, Mary tried to confront Marshall about his job prospect ...
[Mary]: "So, were you ever going to tell me? Or was the plan just to let me figure it out when you stopped showing up for work?"
[Marshall]: "Actually, I was going to write a letter and then mail it to myself. That way, I'd be sure you got the news."

Mary and Marshall had to travel to Perryville Prison in Goodyear, Arizona to pick up Horst Vanderhof and transport him to a meeting with the FBI. Stan warned them before they left: "Give yourselves plenty of time. A guy was killed at the prison yesterday. Totally unrelated, but still, security is tight."

[Marshall]: "She needs to know everything about everybody."
[Horst]: "I can tell. She's been undressing me with her eyes ever since I walked out here."

[Horst]: "Oh, now that's just unkind."

Brandi was walking by a bar in town when she spotted Jinx inside. She stayed out of sight and called Jinx on her cell phone:

(Brandi crept up behind Jinx who was sitting at the bar.)
[Bartender to Brandi]: "Uh, huh. Can I get you something, miss?"
[Brandi]: "Sure. I'll have what she's having." (Brandi grabbed Jinx's drink and pretended to be shocked to see her.)

Marshall was under the hood of the SUV, when Lola's people arrived and started shooting. He stepped out and was shot in the chest. Mary repositioned the SUV to shield the injured Marshall and to get a better vantage point. Lola's people approached the vehicle while Mary was trying to reload. Marshall appeared from the side of the SUV, shooting, and he hit one of the attackers in the shoulder. When the attackers had disappeared out of sight, Marshall collapsed, mid sentence:
[Mary]: "Marshall. Marshall. Oh my God, can you hear me?"
[Marshall]: "Ow, ow, I must have bumped my head."
[Mary]: "Yeah, that's what happened. And then you fell on a bullet."
[Marshall]: "Huh?"
[Mary]: "Doofus, you got shot."
[Marshall]: "Oh crap!"

Jinx confessed to Brandi about Dan's dog eating her cosmetic samples, the ones that Mary had loaned her the $2500 to purchase. Brandi and Jinx took Jinx's "Box of Memories" to a jeweler to sell. However, she was heartbroken to learn that all of the jewelry was fake. The jeweler only offered her $200 for all of it, including the box.

[Marshall]: "Because I needed to make up my own mind. And that's not always an option with you. You know how you are."
[Mary]: "I thought you loved this job."

[Mary]: "Well, what then? Tell me. Am I the reason you want to go? Because of how I am?"
[Marshall]: "No. It has more to do with how I am."
[Mary]: "Oh, my God. I can't believe I'm getting the 'It's not you, it's me' speech from you. Am I really the reason you want to leave the Marshal Service?"
[Marshall]: "No. Not exactly."
[Mary]: "Oh." ...
[Marshall]: "Look. It's nothing like what you think."
[Mary]: "Oh yeah? Then you should probably explain because I'm pretty confused. I know you love the job, and I thought you ... I thought we were friends."
[Marshall]: "We are. You're my best friend."
[Mary]: "Jesus, Marshall. You're like my only friend."
[Marshall]: "I know. And you're like my only friend."
[Mary]: "So? Sounds like a pretty good arrangement. What's the problem?"
[Marshall]: "The problem with us is ..."
[Mary]: "Please just tell me."
[Marshall]: "I feel like I'm the keeper of this exotic animal. And I spend my time either protecting you from the world, or the world from you. And it's just ... It's just a lot of responsibility."
[Mary]: "I'm sorry. But that's your job." (Mary kissed him on the cheek.) "And you cannot quit."
[Marshall]: "Okay."

Mary found the GPS tracking device in Horst's medical supplies after she realized that Lola's team only shot the front passenger side door. She thought it unlikely that a team of people sent to eliminate a witness would not have at least attempted to shoot him, but there were no bullet holes in the backdoor of the SUV, where Horst was sitting.
[Mary]: "See how this flows. Obviously, you brought it into prison with you, and obviously your friends used it to bust you out, as it were, which seems to imply that you had the foresight to plan your escape before you got arrested."
[Horst]: "And how on God's green Earth could I do that?"
[Mary]: "Yeah, right, it doesn't make sense."
[Horst]: "No, it doesn't make sense."
[Mary]: "Unless ... You a Kinks fan?"
[Horst]: "Okay. The heat is getting to you. Maybe you should get a drink of water."
[Mary]: "You know ... (singing) ... 'I met her in a club down in old Soho, where she drinks champagne and it tastes just like cherry cola.'"
[Horst]: "Come again? I stopped listening after you went crazy."
[Mary]: "It was a hit, wasn't it? The guy who got killed at Perryville yesterday, that was a hit. A brilliantly conceived and executed contract killing. Oh, man. I bet you got paid a boatload for that one, huh?"
[Horst]: "Please explain to me what you're talking about. At least then, when I die, I'll know why."
[Mary]: "You set yourself up to get arrested five miles from Perryville because you had to get locked up there so you could whack that guy from Ruidoso. Oh, man. I've got to admit, I really underestimated you, Horst. ... Or should I say Lola?"

Mary offered Horst/Lola up to his crew to enable her to get the severely injured Marshall to safety. Mary and Stan went after Horst once Marshall was loaded into the ambulance and on his way to the hospital. Mary tracked Horst using the cell phone she hid in his medical bag.

She called him on the phone and turned on the blue lights as they pulled up behind them. The stolen minivan lunged forward and Horst said: "Really, Jason? You think you can outrun the highway patrol in a minivan? Hmmm?" (Horst beat Jason in head with a teddy bear.) "Pull over, you idiot! Pull ... Over!" The last thing Horst yells to Mary as he is being arrested: "Hey, that Witness Protection deal. Is that still on the table?"
