Walter Harriman is a technician at the SGC whose job is to dial the Stargate and control the iris which prevents travelers without a code from entering the SGC.

The character developed somewhat of a cult following and in later seasons began to feature more prominently in episodes.

O'Neill expressed his displeasure at yet another scientist joining his team when Captain Samantha Carter is introduced as a member of SG-1. Carter does not take O'Neill's complaints well as she assumes he is complaining about the fact she is a woman, not that she is a scientist.

Amanda Tapping (who played Carter) was unhappy about the feminist aspect of the character and eventually developed Carter's softer/warmer side, whilst retaining her strong and independent character.

Jonas Hanson is the leader of SG-9 and was previously engaged to Samantha Carter. On the planet Avnil designated P3X-513, Hanson becomes convinced he is a god and is eventually killed by his followers after they are convinced by SG-1 of Hanson's mortality.

Samantha Carter is speaking at the funeral of her friend Janet Frasier. She was much more than simply the head of the medical teams at Stargate Command. Janet Frasier dies in the field, saving Senior Airman Simon Wells; she is shot by a Jaffa staff blast.

Airman Wells survives and his pregnant wife gives birth to a daughter several weeks later. They name the girl Janet.
