Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ralph Kramden kept his job as a bus driver throughout the run of the show. However, he had no boundaries when it came to side careers. Which unrealistic living did he never pursue?

Answer: Golfer

Although there was an episode that Ralph tried golfing in, it was only so he could play with his boss at the bus company, who Ralph hoped could grant him a raise.
2. On several occasions on the show, other people spent the night in the Kramdens' apartment, always leading to Ralph getting angry at having to sleep on the cot in the kitchen. Who never kept Ralph from sleeping in his own bed?

Answer: Ralph's boss

It was a running joke that whenever Ralph was opening or folding up the cot, he pinched his finger, which certainly didn't improve his view on the situation.
3. With Ralph's poor paying job and unwise spending, Alice had her fair share to complain about. Especially about one "antique" in her kitchen. What appliance was Alice always trying to get replaced with a more modern design?

Answer: Icebox

Poor Alice was always stuck with a long outdated icebox in her kitchen! Lack of refrigerator was always on the top of her complaint list, but Ralph never had the money to get her one.
4. Which statement was true about Ed Norton?

Answer: He sometimes wore reading glasses

Norton carried his reading glasses in his vest pocket, and would sometimes put them on to read. The large circular frames always made the audience laugh, and never failed to irk Ralph.
5. In various episodes, Norton was seen playing the piano. Before he played, he had to "warm up" by playing the first few bars of a classic song. What was the song that he always started with?

Answer: Suwanee River

In the episode "Ninety Nine Thousand Dollar Answer", Ralph heard Norton play this song so many times, he incorrectly cited him as the writer of "Suwanee River" (it was written by Stephen Foster).
6. On multiple occasions, Ralph needed to barricade himself and Alice into their apartment for a wide variety of reasons. Which of the following was never a reason to pile the furniture in front of the door?

Answer: Ralph didn't want Alice's relatives to visit

The most notable occasion was in the episode "Please Leave the Premises", when the landlord raised everyone's rent and Ralph refused to pay it. When his landlord threatened to evict him, he barricaded himself and Alice inside the tiny apartment and got into character as George Washington defending Valley Forge.
7. The Kramdens' kitchen/living room wasn't what you would call extensively furnished. Still, a few simple pieces of furniture came together to create one of television's most iconic sets. Which piece of furniture was not a part of this room?

Answer: Flowered curtains

The window that we saw had no curtains at all. However, it was mentioned in multiple episodes that the other room, the bedroom, had a window, although we never saw it.
8. In an early episode, Alice came home from the doctor and, having learned she may have an allergy to a certain food, was ordered to eat lots of this food. What was she supposed to eat?

Answer: Pickles

When Alice came home with a large jar of pickles, Ralph immediately assumed she was pregnant and launched into planning for a baby. He was disappointed when Alice told him she had to eat the pickles to determine what she was allergic to.
9. One of the "Classic 39" is named after a saying that was featured prominently in the episode. Complete the saying: "A man may work from sun to sun, but..."

Answer: A woman's work is never done

Alice first said this when Ralph came home from work, tired and demanding. She replied that all day she had done nothing but work, and she was so sick of Ralph's complaining that she decided to get her own job. Ralph fired back by hiring a maid and hilarity ensued.
10. In one very special episode, the Kramdens decided to adopt a baby. After some debate, what did they decide to name their baby?

Answer: Ralphina

Ralph had originally planned on adopting a boy baby and wanted to name him Ralph Jr. When he arrived at the adoption agency, he fell in love with a baby girl and they decided to take her instead. After a quick revision to the name, Ralph and Alice took the baby home and kept her for a few days, until her mother wanted her back.
