Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Lucifer" initially aired in 2016 on FOX, who ran it for three years and then cancelled the series. Luckily, it was picked up by which hugely successful streaming network?

Answer: Netflix

When FOX dropped the show it was upsetting for fans, particularly because Season 3 ended on a cliffhanger (due to the fact that the writers had no idea the series was being cancelled).

Netflix bought out the rights and resurrected the series in 2018, resulting in higher ratings by critics and fans.
2. The "Lucifer" series is very loosely based on "The Sandman" comic/graphic novels created by Neil Gaiman. In what other DC comic adaption for TV, named for a fast moving superhero, did the character Lucifer Morningstar also appear?

Answer: The Flash

Lucifer Morningstar made a brief appearance in "The Flash" in the episode "Crisis on Infinite Earths". He gives a "devil's calling card" to Constantine as a pass to get some of the superhero team members into Purgatory for a rescue operation.

Tom Ellis plays the character in this show as well.
3. The word lucifer means "light-bringing" in Latin etymology. In the TV series "Lucifer", the devil opens a classy nightclub in Los Angeles. With a word that is also related to "light", what name did he choose for his venue?

Answer: Lux

In science, Lux is the SI unit for luminance.

The Lux nightclub is actually a compilation of three different locations in Los Angeles:
The entrance - El Capitan Theater
The interior (before they built its own set) - Emerson Theater
The exterior (frequently shown in aerial shots) - Sunset Tower Hotel, formerly operated under the names of St Jame's Club and the Argyll. It has been the residence of numerous celebrities including John Wayne, Howard Hughes, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Truman Capote, Michael Caine and Frank Sinatra, amongst many others. It was declared an historic site in 1980.

Another prominently featured building (white with blue domes) in Los Angeles is the Griffith Observatory.
4. With the least Welsh-looking name on the list, which of the following actors portrays the character of Lucifer Morningstar in the television series?

Answer: Tom Ellis

He is also known for his role in "The Fades" series, as a recurring character in the BBC soap "Eastenders" and was a regular in BBC's sitcom "Miranda".

Thomas John Ellis was born in Cardiff Wales in 1978. He attended school in Sheffield England and received his BA from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He gained twenty pounds of muscle for the role of Lucifer. Interestingly, his father, his uncle and one of his sisters are all Baptist pastors.

Brief filmography lists for the incorrect answers:

Rhys Ifans - Spike in "Notting Hill", Lovegood in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" and Mycroft Holmes in the CBS series "Elementary".

Michael Sheen - Many movie credits, perhaps best known on TV as the family patriarch/serial killer in the "Prodigal Son" series.

Owain Yeoman - Benny in "Emergence", Benedict Arnold in "Turn: Washington's Spies" and every episode of "The Mentalist" for the first six seasons. He is certainly good looking enough to play Lucifer.

All the actors in this question are from Wales.
5. There are several musical segments interspersed throughout the entire "Lucifer" series. Does the actor who portrays the main character do his own singing?

Answer: Yes

Yes, Tom Ellis is gifted with an impressive vocal range. He can't actually play the piano very well though he does a great job of faking it. The instruments he is fairly adept at are the guitar, french horn and trumpet.

Lesley-Ann Brandt, who plays the demon Mazikeen, is not only beautiful and athletically fit, but has a gorgeous singing voice. This talent is featured periodically throughout the seasons.

As a matter of fact, similar to the Canadian series "The Magicians", the ENTIRE regular cast does their own singing and dancing. This is especially evident in Season 5 in the episode entitled "Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam".
6. Amenadiel is one of the angels in the "Lucifer" series and is portrayed by an actor who is also known for his work in "24" as Wayne Palmer. Who is this tall and muscular man?

Answer: D.B. Woodside

In "24", President David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) is assassinated. His brother Wayne (D.B. Woodside) later becomes the President of the US. Woodside also spent three seasons on the show "Suits" and played Buffy's boss in the final season of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

In "Lucifer" he plays an angel who is at first an antagonist and later a protagonist who chooses to stay living on earth and supports his brother Lucifer.

D.L. Hughey is a comedian.

B.J. Britt played Antoine in the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." series.

D.B Cooper is the alias of a man who hijacked an airplane in 1971 and then jumped out of it while in flight with a stash of cash.
7. Los Angeles is the setting for the "Lucifer" series, but in what cosmopolitan Canadian ocean harbour city was the show largely filmed for the first two seasons?

Answer: Vancouver

Calgary, Winnipeg and Toronto are not by an ocean.

The majority of filming for the first two years took place in Vancouver British Columbia before moving base to LA from Season 3 onwards. Season 5 is also partially filmed in Vancouver.

Some Vancouver area locations are:
Exterior police station - Burnaby City Hall
Ski resort where Maze is bounty hunting - Grouse Mountain Lodge
Office of murdered therapist and also the casino - Westin Bayshore Hotel
The "Paddock Bar" where the police officers party - Union Jack Public House
Supermarket - Westminster Quay
Dunlear Foundation - Casa Mia
Church of the High Prince, also Amenadiel's apartment - Cecil Green Park House (UBC)
Hospital - Koerner Pavillion (UBC)
Ballroom - Rosewood Hotel Georgia
Jewelry store - The Vancouver Club
8. Amenadiel (an angel) and the psychologist (a human) have a baby together. This child turns out to be which of the following?

Answer: A mortal

Amenadiel and Linda "baby proof" the house by covering everything in bubble wrap to prevent the baby from hurting himself while learning to fly. This turns out to be for naught, as God confirms the child is mortal. Amenadiel is disappointed for some time about this, whereas Linda is overjoyed.
9. He might be known to some for his portrayal of President David Palmer on "24", or as the deep-voiced actor in the Allstate Insurance commercials. What actor plays God in the "Lucifer" TV series?

Answer: Dennis Haysbert

Dennis Haysbert generally plays stoic or authoritarian characters, possibly due to his physical stature and resonant voice. People tend to forget he was in the comedy movie "Major League". In "Lucifer", we get to see again how funny, personable and charming he can be. He has a pretty good baritone singing voice as well! Haysbert's first appearance in an Allstate commercial was in 2003.

The incorrect answers were other actors in the cast of "24".
10. At the end of Season 5 of the "Lucifer" TV series, there is a battle between angels and demons. Who are the two main contenders for the ultimate prize, the Kingdom of Heaven?

Answer: Lucifer and Michael

Michael is Lucifer's twin brother and he has been scheming for eons up in Heaven (while Lucifer was banished to Hell) for an opportunity to replace God. Lucifer wants the position too, but for different reasons, and his side is outnumbered at the onset of the battle. Michael, of course, is also played by Tom Ellis (with an American accent as well as different facial expressions and posture).

The battle was originally supposed to be filmed at the Mount Wilson Observatory, but due to the pandemic the L.A. Memorial Coliseum became available. This added to the "epic" atmosphere of the event. The total number of angels and demons was reduced and if you watch the episode you may notice that in the battle all the actors are spaced a reasonably safe distance from each other.
