Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of 'Peace on Us', the entire company at the 4077th is assembled for two announcements from Colonel Potter. One is that the peace talks are 'stuck again'. The other, and much more important announcement, is that there will be no smoking in which camp facility?

Answer: Latrine

According to Colonel Potter, there is gasoline stored next to the camp latrine and hence no smoking will be allowed there. This prompts Charles to snatch the cigar from Klinger's mouth and toss it to the ground.

Oddly, Hawkeye appears in a wheelchair at the beginning and end of this episode. Could this be some kind of metaphor?
2. The bad news about the peace talks does not dampen Margaret's spirits. She believes that she will soon be with her husband Donald in Tokyo. Unfortunately, she discovers that Donald has been transferred for a week to which faraway location, throwing a monkey wrench into their meeting plans?

Answer: San Francisco

Radar provides Margaret with the bad news via telegram. She takes the news lightly, imagining that Donald will only be gone for a short time. Later, she will learn the awful truth.
3. Margaret soon learns that Donald has had himself transferred permanently. What major damage does she do in Radar's office after learning the bad news?

Answer: She kicks one of the doors down

Margaret learns via telephone that her husband's transfer to San Francisco is permanent, rather than temporary. Making it worse, it is Donald himself that has requested the permanent transfer. Margaret is so angry that she kicks one of the doors down in Radar's office.
4. Meanwhile, in the Swamp, Hawkeye, BJ and Charles exchange opinions about fashion. Hawkeye claims that he is sick of the drab green fatigues that army personnel are constantly forced to wear. Which color does he specifically mention as a keen replacement for army green?

Answer: Red

Hawkeye fumbles around with his army shirt. 'Look at this bilious shmatte', he says. 'Everything here is green. I'm so sick of green,' he continues. 'Just once I'd like to see some other color. Like red for instance. Not this kind of red [pointing at the blood on his hospital gown]. Red that's rosy; red that's cheery.'
5. Hawkeye's reverie in the Swamp is broken up by Colonel Potter who has very bad news. The army has decided to 'up the rotation points' needed to return home. How many points are now necessary to get out of Korea?

Answer: 45

The rotation point schedule has been upped from 36 to 45 points. Needless to say, the Swamp-dwellers are livid, especially Hawkeye.

There has been a popular rumor amongst fans of 'M*A*S*H' trivia that the army ended the rotation point system before the Korean War. This is not accurate. It is accurate however that the army decreased, rather than increased, the number of rotation points needed to return home from the war. Hence, the increase presented in this episode is a fiction.
6. It is in this specific episode (Peace on Us) that Margaret makes the fateful decision to divorce her husband Donald.

Answer: true

Hawkeye walks angrily out of the swamp, upset about the change in rotation point requirements. He meets an equally furious Margaret, who has discovered that Donald 'ran out on [her]'. Later, Margaret asks Colonel Potter for advice on whether or not she should divorce Donald, to which the Colonel replies that he would 'dump him'. Potter asks Margaret what her gut tells her, and Margaret decides that it is time to get a divorce.
7. After hearing about the change in rotation points and about Margaret's failing marriage, Hawkeye rashly drives off towards the peace talks. Where are they being held?

Answer: Panmunjom

Indeed, Panmunjom was the site where the final armistice of 1953 was signed. The village is located right on the border between North and South Korea.
8. At the peace talks, Hawkeye insinuates himself into the conversation by claiming he has been sent to administer to a very sick general. General Tomlin, one of the negotiators, happens to have a chronic problem. What illness does he suffer from?

Answer: Gastritis

Hawkeye pretends to have arrived at Panmunjom in order to tend to a sick general, but he does not provide a specific name. The guard at the gate accompanies Hawkeye into the peace talks where he learns of General Tomlin's gastritis.
9. While tending to the sick General, Hawkeye begins to assert his opinion about the peace talks. What is Hawkeye's idea for an icebreaker among the participants of the negotiation?

Answer: Join hands and say 'Howdy'

'Come on, join hands. Everybody join hands and say, 'Howdy',' Hawkeye implores. When no one will participate, he continues, 'Come on! It's just one little word. You mean you can't even get together on one little word? What's the matter here? I don't understand. You know what to do why can't you just do it? People are dying out there you've got to stop it! You can't wait anymore! You can't!'
10. After his shenanigans up at the peace talks, Hawkeye returns with a self-satisfied look to the 4077th. He discovers that the entire camp is waiting for him in the mess tent with a surprise welcome-back party. The party is interrupted, however, by a Major Dean Goss from 'I' Corps. To which drunken individual does Goss introduce himself twice?

Answer: Colonel Potter

Everyone at the party is dressed in red, and has their hair dyed red to boot. Hawkeye is delighted.

Major Goss has been sent to the 4077th to inquire about Hawkeye's visit to Panmunjom. When confronted by Colonel Potter, Major Goss introduces himself thusly: 'Colonel Potter, I'm Major Dean Goss, 'I' Corps.' Potter responds, 'Colonel Sherman Potter. Who are you?' Goss replies, 'My name is Goss, 'I' Corps'. Later, Goss reveals that he has red hair and asks if he would 'fit in' to the party.
