Usually, David Addison is the one to amble in after the deadline and get a scolding. However, this time it's Maddie Hayes' turn. David doesn't let her forget it, either.

2. What does Maddie tell David she did the previous night?

Answer: Went shopping, then home, then out to meet a friend after she got a message

David knows (as do the viewers) this is not the whole truth about what Maddie did that night. Hayes conveniently omits any mention of her bad night at the club, but David does not let on that he can tell the difference.

3. The detectives meet a client. What does she hire them to do?

Answer: See if her boyfriend wants to return to his wife

The woman is Elaine Johnson. Her lover is Alan McLafferty.

In a heart-stopping moment, David is just on the verge of telling Maddie the truth. He is interrupted when musicians stop at the table.

Sam picks up the bottle on the table. It appears to be a friendly gesture, but this may not be the case, as the night wears on and David drinks himself into a stupor.

Eventually, Sam drives David home. David is so out of it, he picks a fight with a stranger who bumps into Sam's car at a gas station. Somehow, the two survive, and get back on the road.
