Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Detective Maddie Hayes arrives at the office. There are flowers for her. What does she do with them?

Answer: Puts them in the trash

The flowers were from the man with whom she went on a date the previous day. Apparently things did not go well. (We do not see this person on the show.) David and the other Blue Moon workers joke about the event.
2. David goes to Maddie's office. There, Maddie tells him how disappointing the date was. David says maybe the other person wasn't the problem. He offers a solution. What is it?

Answer: They can take each other out on different 'ideal' dates

"I'll trade you an evening of 'fun' for an evening of 'fine,'" David says. Maddie likes cultural things such as art and classical music, so David decides to get opera tickets.
3. David shows up at Maddie's house-- and surprises the daylights out of her. He is dressed to the nines, and has hired a limousine. Maddie is very happy on their trip to the event. However, something goes wrong. What is it?

Answer: The seats at the opera are not next to each other

David was unable to get seats at the box office and took a couple of tickets he found in an ashtray. On the night of the show, he is unable to convince anyone else to switch seats. When he tries to apologize to Maddie, he leans so far over the balcony railing that he nearly falls. David is pulled to safety, but Maddie is furious and storms out of the hall.
4. At the office the next day, the detectives are visited by particularly anxious clients. Who are they?

Answer: FBI agents

They say they were supposed to be at the show last night, in order to meet someone and receive top secret material. When they could not get in--because David had unknowingly picked up the tickets meant for them--it became possible for events to spiral out of control.
5. Another group shows up, claiming to be the same as the first one. Now the detectives are sure something is not right. Where do they go first?

Answer: Maddie's house

They look through things in Maddie's room. When they find her purse, they see a ticket stub. It shouldn't be there, since she went to the opera hall and left in a limousine. They figure the ticket is for the car that belongs to the extra visitors. Time to go redeem the ticket.
6. Now the detectives head to the public garage. Once they pick up the car, they look in the trunk. What do they find?

Answer: Rifles

They also find i.d. cards for the second group of visitors--who are actually Russian spies. This episode first aired on October 14, 1986, at a time when the Cold War was still an influence on political affairs.
7. The detectives find a phone both. Maddie says they ought to tell the authorities about the case, and David picks up the phone. What happens while they are waiting for an answer?

Answer: The car is stolen

"They're stealing our stolen car!" Maddie yells. It's too late to stop them, however. In the trunk, there were also disguises: maintenance uniforms for a local arena, where there is going to be a boxing match. The detectives head there next.
8. The detectives get tickets and go into the arena. In order to protect the Russian boxer, however, they'll have to get much closer to ringside. What do they do?

Answer: Clobber the U.S. boxer and set up David to take his place

The spies are plotting to kill the Russian fighter, Kabonov, because they think he intercepted some secret information. If the detectives can warn Kabonov first, they'll save his life. In a very funny scene, the detectives hit the U.S. coach and the boxer with a frying pan, so that they can switch outfits.
9. The detectives make their way down to the ring. There is a huge crowd. There is also a well-known announcer. Who is he?

Answer: Don King

King notices the American fighter looks a lot different than he remembers. Nevertheless, he does not call off the event. David throws 'shadow' punches and tries to make everyone think he really is the missing man. As soon as he turns to face the Russian, however, it sinks in that this is going to be a lot tougher than it looks.
10. David tries to warn the Russian, but the fight starts for real. Addison takes so many punches that he may not be able to go on. It looks like the fight will be lost. Maddie must act quickly before the worst happens. What does she do?

Answer: Jumps into the ring and battles the Russian

Maddie taunts her opponent: "He'd hit a girl!" With a flurry of punches, she knocks out the Russian. Up in the lighting struts, the sniper opens fire, and misses. The police hurry to catch him. Another case comes to a happy, albeit bizarre resolution.
