Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dick Clark made this game show famous in 1973. What's the name of this show?

Answer: The $10,000 Pyramid

The show started in 1973 but went on to have numerous hosts, including Donny Osmond and John Davidson. Not only was 10,000 the figure but it was raised to $100,000 later on.

I recall Joey, the character of "Friends" when he was a celebrity host on the show. Totally messing up, like the typical Joey.

"Pyramid" starts off with two players, trying to figure out the word the other one is thinking of, without using the word or phrase.
2. I loved watching the celebrities battle it out on this television show. What show was this that Howard Cosell hosted in 1976?

Answer: Battle of the Network Stars

This show ran for over ten seasons and I loved watching the celebrities play silly games against each other. We watched some of our favorites like, Telly Savalas from CBS team and Gabe Kaplan from ABC team try to lead their teams to victory. What a great show that I miss and may just watch on YouTube now.
3. Put 60 seconds on the timer and see if you can figure out this game show. Gene Wood was the host from 1972 to 1974. What is the name of this game show?

Answer: Beat the Clock

Of course I wasn't around when this show first aired in 1950 but I did enjoy watching it later when Gene hosted it in 1972. He would say, "put 60 seconds on the clock" after telling the contestants what stunt they would be doing in that time frame. From bouncing balls and getting them into a hat or tossing balloons in a bucket.

Some easy and some far from easy. Always a tickle watching them.
4. People would use this ball and try to knock over pins on this game show. What was the name of this "rolling" show?

Answer: Bowling For Dollars

Not one of my favorite game shows, but I had a bowling ball, so... here it is! This show originally started with contestants trying to knock down as many pins as they could with only two balls. Usually there were seven people in the short half hour show attempting to win a few bucks. If you knocked them all down, you had a third ball to make more "bowling dollars".

The quirk about the show was someone at home was also eligible to win with a card called the Pin Pal. Each bowler selected a Pin Pal name before bowling.
5. It would seem that all I would have to do is say "Vanna White" and you could guess this game show. What is the name of this game show?

Answer: Wheel of Fortune

The very popular "Wheel of Fortune" teams up Vanna with Pat Sajak with people spinning the large wheel, selecting a letter and guessing the phrase. Vanna is the letter turner and has been turning letters since 1982. She actually became the hostess for one day in 2019, while Sajak was in the hospital. Something she was very proud of. Vanna has clapped approximately 606 times per show. Give that woman a hand!
6. Jack Barry hosted this show for only a couple of seasons. 1956 to 1958 he would ask a question of each of the two contestants. What game show was this?

Answer: 21

This was the scandalous game show. The one where the movie, "Quiz Show" was based on. You tend to wonder after this happened just how real, quiz shows were.

The show featured two contestants and each one answering the same questions, while the other one was in a sound proof booth.

They attempted to revive the show in 2000 with Maury Povich, but wasn't renewed the following season.
7. Nine squares and you need to make a win of three in a row for a tic tac toe sort of game with this game show. What game show was this?

Answer: Hollywood Squares

Nine celebrities sat in boxes and answered the question of the host. The problem was, were they correct answers or not? The two contestants needed to answer "true or false" to win an X or an O. Peter Marshall was the host for many years. The middle square was the popular square with Paul Lynde in that spot many many times over the series.

I used to laugh at some of the crazy answers of the celebrities. A fun show for sure!
8. "The Joker's Wild" was a game show that first aired on September 4, 1962.

Answer: False

The game show first aired ten years later 1972 with Jack Barry hosting the show. The 2017 version of the game show has Snoop Dogg hosting it.

The three contestants spin the 'jackpot' wheel and try to match up categories. The "Joker" is wild and can be any category.
9. This game show that had six celebrities sitting on a panel. The celebrities were given a short limerick and would place 'their word' in the blank. What game show was this that was hosted by Gene Rayburn in the 1960s?

Answer: Match Game

Gene would ask the celebrities to write down their answers to an incomplete question. For example: Linkan's quiz is so unique, you would think that she _______ fun trivia. Of course all the celebrities would write down 'LOVED'.

Then the contestant would come up with an answer and try to match with the celebrities. I use to just laugh at some of the comical, yet nasty answers.
10. This very short game show lasted only one season in the United States in 1978 with Bill Cullen hosting. What's the name of this game show?

Answer: Pass The Buck

The British version lasted at least a couple of years from 1998 to 2000 while the Australian version lasted only two episodes long.

The show had four contestants listing items that were within the category required. If you missed or didn't answer quickly enough you were eliminated. The one person with the most correct answers won the game and went on to play Fast Bucks.

It sounded like it was going to be a successful game show, but unfortunately was canceled after just one season.
