Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What sitcom added cousin Oliver to the show?

Answer: The Brady Bunch

Oliver, played by Robbie Rist, was arguably the most annoying part of "The Brady Bunch"; more so than the polyester clothes, astroturfed back yard and the lame songs. Cousin Oliver joined the show in the fifth and final season to replace the cuteness of Cindy and Bobby Brady.

It didn't work, apparently.
2. Sitcom "Married...With Children" added a little boy named Seven to the mix. True or False!

Answer: True

Shane Sweet joined the cast of "Married...With Children" at the start of season seven as five-year old Seven, the cousin to Bud and Kelly Bundy. He was as annoying as cousin Oliver from "The Brady Bunch" and was quickly written out of the show, which some people say helped to prolong the show's inevitable demise.

Somebody out there must have liked Shane since he was nominated at the Young Artist Awards for Outstanding Actor Under Ten in a Television Series for 1993 and 1994.
3. As if two daughters and a son wasn't enough, along came baby number four - Andrew. What show am I referring to?

Answer: Family Ties

Brian Bonsall joined the cast of "Family Ties" in its fifth season as a cute replacement for actress Tina Yothers who played Jennifer, the younger daughter of the Keaton family. Brian didn't completely kill the show, as it lasted another three seasons but he was annoying.

Brian won one award at each of the 1988, 1989 and 1990 Young Artist Awards.

In 1992, Brian played Mikey in the movie of the same name as a deranged little psycho.

At least in the movie, that was intentional.
4. This sitcom added two kids which helped to sink the show - Chrissy and Luke. Which 80s sitcom were they on?

Answer: Growing Pains

Leonardo di Caprio found fame on this dying show playing Luke Brower, a sixteen year old homeless student of Mike Seaver, to help boost the show's ratings. Fortunately for Luke, he was rescued by his father and taken away from the Seaver homestead before the show ended 22 episodes after his arrival. Leo did eventually sink - in "The Titanic", in James Cameron's blockbuster motion picture.

The youngest Seaver child, Chrissy, originally co-played by twins Kelsey and Kirsten Dohring wasn't born until the fourth season and suddenly "grew up" from being a toddler to a five year old (then played by Ashley Johnson) between the fifth and sixth seasons.

The rapid aging of kids on television shows really annoys me.
5. Another double-whammy, this show introduced two "cute" teens to keep it going. The main cast members ballooned so along came some younger faces. Mackenzie Astin joined this show which took place in Peekskill, NY. Then came the annoying Australian student, Pippa.

Answer: The Facts of Life

"The Fact of Life" spun-off from "Diff'rent Strokes" when housekeeper Mrs. Garrett took a job at "The Eastland School for Girls". "The Facts of Life" evolved over many years moving the set from the school to a café, which later became a shop full of trinkets, gadgets and well, basically, junk.

Mackenzie played teen aged Andie Moffat for the last three seasons of "The Facts of Life" when the café was re-built into the shop. The girls discovered he was a latchkey kid (home alone after school) and invited him to hang out at the store after school.

Mackenzie is the son of actress Patty Duke and actor John Astin and the younger brother of actor Sean Astin.

The final season saw the introduction of Sherrie Krenn as Pippa, the Australian annoyance, who was a student at "Eastland". Acting didn't prove successful enough so Sherrie turned to country music where she is enjoying a lucrative career under a new stage name.
6. Along comes Olivia, the step-niece to another grown-up, washed-up young actress whose real initials are KKP. What was that program called?

Answer: The Cosby Show

"The Cosby Show" is show is widely accredited for the re-birth of the sitcom. KKP stands for Keshia Knight-Pulliam who played Rudy, the youngest of the Huxtable children on NBC's "The Cosby Show".

Little Olivia came along as a four-year-old replacement of Rudy's faded cuteness when rebel Denise Huxtable returned from a hiatus in Africa. Olivia joined at the start of the sixth season and left for Singapore at the end of the eighth and final season.
7. "The Love Boat" introduced Vicki, the young niece of Cruise Director Julie McCoy. True or False!

Answer: False

Jill Whalen played Vicki, daughter of Captain Stubing and although she lasted six seasons, she was a major reason for the eventual sinking of "The Love Boat". This comedic-drama by executive producer Aaron Spelling ("Fantasy Island", "Dynasty" and "Models Inc.") sailed on our television sets for nine seasons.

Its cheesy romances and washed-up guest stars somehow managed to maintain our interest.
8. On "All in the Family", what was the relationship between Stephanie and Archie and Edith Bunker?

Answer: She was Edith's niece.

Edith's cousin abandoned his daughter Stephanie on the Bunkers' doorstep. Danielle Brisebois, the littlest orphan in Broadway's "Annie" at the time, joined the cast as Edith's niece, Stephanie Mills in the show's final season.

This addition received much criticism as what was once a biting and controversial show took a softer approach by adding a nine-year-old to the household. The show lasted 20 episodes with "Stephanie" in character.

While this show was many years before my time, I have seen many episodes since, and as such, I often yell at people to "get outta my chair."
9. The most annoying kid in TV history (more than cousin Oliver AND Seven combined, in my humble opinion) was Sam from "Diff'rent Strokes". He was a trouble maker and he often bragged that he was "the cute one now", so he could "get away with anything". How was Sam written into the show?

Answer: He was the step-son of Mr. Drummond.

Ratings were plummeting so it was time to add more characters to the show. Mr. Dummond married Maggie McKinney (played by Dixie Carter in season seven and Mary Ann Mobley in season eight) and Maggie had some baggage - a redheaded boy named Sam, played by Danny Cooksey.

I guess Sam was too annoying even for his mom as she left after only one season. The show moved from NBC to ABC for its final season and I guess Dixie got lost in the shuffle.
10. If they knew that eight was enough, why did they add this kid one week after adding baby Sandra Sue to parents Susan and Merle?

Answer: Jeremy Andreddi

Played by Ralph Macchio (of the "Karate Kid" movie franchise), Jeremy was introduced to the cast of "Eight is Enough" as Abby's nephew in the show's final season. He was somewhat of a rebel (referring to the Bradfords as "the Brady Bunch") and he took his time to settle in. Perhaps Jeremy took too much time because only nineteen episodes later, Jeremy was gone and so was the show.

The ratings told all; that eight was enough after all.
