Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The comedy "The Crazy Ones" starring Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar revolves around which business?

Answer: Advertising

"The Crazy Ones" premiered on September 26, 2013 with Robin Williams playing Simon Roberts, the chief executive of his own advertising agency. Sarah Michelle Gellar plays his daughter Sydney Roberts, partner in the agency and director of it. Simon Roberts is the eccentric creative type and Sydney is the level headed business type. Together they make the company a success and you know that, apart, neither could be as successful as they are together.
2. These four TV shows deal with the news industry but which one involves a newspaper and not TV news?

Answer: Lou Grant

"Lou Grant" is a spin-off from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" ("MTMS"). On "MTMS" Lou is the producer of the news for TV station WJM and Mary's boss. When that show ends, Lou heads to Los Angeles to become city editor for the fictional "Los Angeles Tribune" daily newspaper.

It is an interesting transition to take a leading character from a half hour sitcom and build an hour long drama around them but it worked quite successfully in the case of "Lou Grant". Ed Asner plays Lou on both shows. Asner won three Emmys for his work on "MTMS" and two for his work on "Lou Grant".
3. "Cheers" is set in a bar with Sam Malone as one of the main characters. Does Sam own the bar for the entire run of the show?

Answer: No

Sam Malone, played by Ted Danson, sells the bar in between seasons 5 and 6 to a corporation. He sells the bar and buys a boat to sail around the world to forget Diane. The boat sinks in the Caribbean and he returns to Cheers. He becomes a bartender with Rebecca Howe, played by Kirstie Alley, running the bar. Sam attempts several times to buy the bar back but does not succeed until the season eight finale.

He owns the bar for the rest of the run of the show.
4. What is the name of the cab company on the TV show "Taxi"?

Answer: Sunshine Cab Company

"Taxi" features the fictitious Sunshine Cab Company. The show revolves around the lives of the cabbies who work for the company. Alex, played by Judd Hirsch, is the intellectual who prefers to drive a cab rather than do anything too challenging. Elaine, played by Marilu Henner, is the divorced mother of two just trying to survive. Tony, played by Tony Danza, is the boxer who drives to make ends meet while trying to hit it big. Bobby, played by Jeff Conaway, is an aspiring actor looking for his big break. Louie, played by Danny DeVito, is their amoral boss who glories in what he can inflict on the cabbies.
5. The TV show "Wings" tells the story of a small, two airline airport set in which locale?

Answer: Nantucket, Massachusetts

"Wings" is set on Nantucket at the fictional airport Tom Nevers Field. The show focuses on the small airline run by brothers Joe and Brian Hackett (Tim Daly and Steven Weber respectively) as they struggle to keep their little business alive. Thomas Haden Church plays Lowell, the airport mechanic and all around handyman. Crystal Bernard plays Helen, owner of the lunch counter and Joe's love interest. Tony Shalhoub plays Antonio, the owner of the local cab. Rebecca Schull plays Fay, Joe and Brian's secretary and reservations agent.
6. "Chico and the Man" and "Sanford and Son" both feature junk dealers and junk yards as their primary business.

Answer: False

"Chico and the Man" is set in a garage in East LA. Ed Brown (played by Jack Albertson), aka the Man, is an old Caucasian widower who owns a garage in East LA where the neighborhood is changing because of the influx of Latinos. Chico (played by Freddie Prinze) is a local Latino looking for a job. The two form an uneasy alliance running the garage.

"Sanford and Son" stars Redd Foxx as Fred G. Sanford and Demond Wilson as his son Lamont. "Sanford and Son" also takes place in LA but in the Watts neighborhood. Fred is a bigoted African American who owns a junk yard in the neighborhood and Lamont is his long suffering son who has to put up with his antics. Advertising at the time claimed Fred was NBC's answer to Archie Bunker.
7. In the original "Dallas" TV series (1978-1991), the Ewings are involved in various business ventures. Of these, which one is NOT a major business they are involved in?

Answer: Newspaper

The Ewings' business dealings involve oil, cattle, and construction but not the newspaper industry. "Dallas" follows the story of J.R. Ewing (played by Larry Hagman), the unscrupulous member of the family, and Bobby Ewing (played by Patrick Duffy), the ethical member of the family, as they deal with both the business and personal issues arising from great wealth. Victoria Principal plays Pamela Barnes Ewing and Linda Gray plays Sue Ellen Ewing.
8. The first seven seasons of "The Drew Carey Show" see Drew working in the offices of what Cleveland department store?

Answer: Winfred-Lauder

Drew Carey works for the fictional Winfred-Lauder Department Store. Drew is the Assistant Director of Personnel, a middle management job at the store. Kathy Kinney plays Mimi Bobeck, his co-worker and rival throughout the show. They do not like each other and they do not hide the fact.

Their boss in season one is the unseen Mr. Bell. Later on, Craig Ferguson as Nigel Wick becomes their boss. He is a very eccentric and equally unlucky Englishman. Drew's friends are Oswald (Diedrich Bader), Lewis (Ryan Stiles), and Kate (Christa Miller).
9. On the US TV show "The Office", what kind of business do the employees work for?

Answer: Paper company

"The Office" takes place at the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, Inc in their Scranton, PA office. Steve Carell plays Michael Scott, the company's regional manager. Rainn Wilson plays Dwight Schrute who goes from sales representative all the way to regional manager through the course of the show. John Krasinski plays Jim Halpert whose path follows the same path as Dwight Schrute. Jenna Fischer plays Pam Beesly who starts out as the receptionist and ends up as an office administrator.
10. "Laverne & Shirley" work as bottlers in Milwaukee for which brewing company?

Answer: Shotz Brewery

The girls work for the fictional Shotz Brewery as bottlers. The Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company is a real Milwaukee brewing company. The Stroh Brewery Company and the Pabst Brewing Company bought Schlitz at different times.

"Laverne & Shirley" is a spinoff of the highly successful sitcom "Happy Days". Penny Marshall plays Laverne and Cindy Williams plays Shirley. The two are working class girls who live in an apartment together. The show follows their daily lives.
