Bent came to the Hazard house hoping to find George but only Constance was there. After extracting where Charles Main was, he stabbed her. Bent took an earring as his trophy and left. George was heartbroken; he happened to glance at her mirror and saw "Bent" written in blood.

For some reason, Orry transferred the mortgage to Cooper, not Madeline, in their son's name. Cooper was adamant that if she couldn't make regular payments on the mortgage, she would be kicked out.

After the massacre of Indians and the deaths of two friends by different Indians, Charles became a drunken recluse. George and Magic found him in a stable passed out drunk. They tossed a bucket of water on him to wake him up. After being informed of his son's kidnapping, he sobered up real quick.

Answer: Orry's cane

Orry was walking in the fog and Bent called out his name before stabbing him in the abdomen. For some reason, Ashton was angry at him and shoved him over the wall, causing him to fall in the water below. He held onto that cane all the way and when he was in the insane asylum. As a side note, Patrick Swayze didn't reprise his role as Orry Main, so they used stock footage.

Answer: The school

The Klan detested all blacks, especially Madeline, whom they knew was 1/8th black. Madeline was even denied entrance in a white church for not being 100% white. They burned the school to show their discontent.

Answer: Pinkerton

Following Constance's death he hired the Pinkerton Agency to find Bent for the sole purpose of killing him. He was quite an elusive person. It was the Pinkerton Agency who informed George, who was at Mont Royal, that Augustus 'Gus' Main had been kidnapped by Bent.

Answer: Lumber

George entered into a contract with Madeline using the profits from the lumber business to pay on the mortgage. When the mill broke, she knew Cooper could use this excuse to take Mont Royal from her. She finally relented to travel to Lehigh Station and George. She informed him of everything, bringing George out of his mourning much to the delight of his assistant.

Answer: Ashton

I say the word bought in quotes because Ashton's second husband never transferred the money from their account to Cooper's. So technically Ashton didn't own Mont Royal.

Answer: Cooper

During the second raid on Mont Royal, Cooper flung Madeline on his horse. George knocked him off while Madeline waded over to a tree in the creek. Then one of the Klansmen told Cooper to shoot them. Cooper was undecided for a moment. Then he yelled out, "No!" and the Klansman shot Cooper dead. George then shot and killed the Klansman, then he and Madeline embraced.

Answer: Ruins of Mont Royal

Knowing Orry and Constance, they would have approved of George and Madeline getting together, not only in business but in love. And thus ends "North and South". It would have been nice to see George and Madeline's wedding.
