So Zach is holding Susan hostage until Mike comes home, so that Susan can't warn Mike or anything, and since Zach is acting a little psycho at that moment, he probably hasn't decided if he's going to kill Susan too. Later on Susan explains to Zach, "I think you're making a mistake. Mike couldn't kill anybody. I mean, this could just be a misunderstanding." However, Mike is planning on killing Paul at this moment in time, and could very well have gone through with it.

Mowing a lawn three times a month is too little, if anything, but three times a week is way too much. After John says this and walks away, Carlos takes a moment to look at Gabrielle, and then starts yelling at John that he is "so dead". Carlos gets up and jumps over benches to get to John, as he exclaims that he's going to kill him. No one else seems to really know who Carlos is going after, and he ends up landing on one of the gay guys (Justin) again!

This note becomes very important in season 2. As Rex writes it, his hand is shaking, and he is dying. The next scene is when Bree (and viewers) find out Rex has died.

Bree: "But his operation, it's not until tomorrow."
Dr. Craig: "I know. He just didn't make it. I'm so sorry. We did everything we could. Bree?"

Bree hangs up the phone, and goes back to polishing the wedding silver, but once she's done, and she's fixed the tablecloth, she then allows herself to feel the impact of what she's just been told - that Rex is dead.

Paul: "You knew Deirdre?"
Mike: "Yeah. And I know what you did to her. She was just a sad girl with a lot of problems, and she did some terrible, crazy, selfish stuff, but you tell me what she ever could have done to deserve death at the hands of somebody like you."
And as Paul answers, viewers finally see what happened in a flashback.

Mary Alice tries grabbing Deirdre's arm, but Deirdre won't let her see it. After she's dead, Mary Alice looks at her arms, but there aren't any track marks. She wasn't using, and Deirdre was clean like she claimed.

After Paul "tells" Mike the whole story of how and why Deirdre was killed, chopped up, and put in a toy chest, all Mike can respond with is his shock that Deirdre, and therefore he, had a baby. Zach is Mike's biological son! This revelation stops Mike from murdering Paul, but Mike leaves Paul all tied up and stranded in the middle of the desert as he walks away.
