The character of Brooke, played by Sophia Bush, made her first appearance in the second episode of the season. Sophia Bush has also appeared on "Nip/Tuck," and married "One Tree Hill" co-star Chad Michael Murray in April 2005.

Nathan's mother Deb, played by Barbara Alyn Woods makes her first appearance in this episode. For the first season, she was listed as a guest star, and she was upgraded to the show's opening credits in season 2.

Dan and the other fathers, including Keith, who Lucas asked to play, play against their sons in the annual charity game. The Burning Boat Festival already took place, in "Are You True?," and the Boy-Toy Auction takes place later on in the season, in "To Wish Impossible Things." The Tree Hill High formal doesn't take place until season 2.

Brooke was a little, shall we say, 'altered' from the pain pills she got from the med student at the school. She decides to call Haley 'Brooke,' although she does refer to her as 'Tutor Girl' in this episode, as well as many others. Usually, only Nathan and Lucas call Haley 'Hales,' and Brooke rarely actually calls her 'Haley.'

Deb: "I spoke with Karen yesterday. She might be coming with Lucas and Keith."
Dan: "They had to know the invitation was just a formality."
Deb: "Mm. Until I invited them in person."
Dan: "Deb, you know how important this party is for me."
Deb: "Oh, I thought this party was for the team."
Dan: "So you go behind my back and turn into my worst nightmare?"
Deb: "Oh, no, Dan. Your worst nightmare is what'll happen if they show up and you do anything to make them feel uncomfortable in our home."

Brooke goes to the party with the promise to "indulge in boys, not booze." Peyton ends up getting her drink spiked with a pill of rohypnol (commonly called a 'roofie') by a college student played by Mike Erwin, formerly of "Everwood." Also appearing in the episode is Sean Faris, of ABC's now-canceled "Life As We Know It."

In this episode, Nathan takes drugs to try and boost his performance in an attempt to beat his father's scoring record, set against the same team that Nathan and the team compete against in this episode. Dan's record was 42 points, and Nathan was only a basket away from breaking the record when he collapsed on the floor.

Peyton runs into Gavin DeGraw in the offices of Thud magazine, and invites him to the Open Mic Night. Jake, after some advice from Lucas, decides to come to the Café and introduces everyone to his daughter, Jenny.

Peyton's father Larry, played by Thomas Ian Griffith, makes his first appearance in this episode.

Peyton got a call that her father's transport was missing, and that a body had been recovered and she needed to come and identify it. She and Lucas drove there, but a drawbridge was up because of a storm and they were forced to spend the night in a nearby motel.

Haley thinks she is in danger of failing gym and asks Lucas to help her learn to throw a "stinking free shot" (free throw). Since he is busy with Brooke and Peyton, she goes to Nathan, who does help her out, and she eventually makes the free throw in class.

Nathan tells Haley that he went to see Lucas because he knew she couldn't, and he wanted Lucas to know she was thinking about him. While Nathan is talking to Lucas, he wakes up, and Nathan wakes up Karen and then leaves to go get Haley.

Jake decides that he needs a job, and Lucas puts in a good word for him with Karen. Haley has been working at the café since the Pilot, and neither Brooke nor Nathan has ever worked there.
