Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Secret agent Sam Casey was able to become invisible, with just the touch of a button on his watch, in which 1970s television show?

Answer: Gemini Man

Based on the HG Wells novel 'The Invisible Man', 'Gemini Man' was a short lived television series, with only five of the eleven original episodes aired on US television. The main character's invisibility came about as the result of an accident while diving. Luckily, his trusty watch allowed him to manage his condition but there was a catch - if he remained invisible for more than fifteen minutes, he would become permanently invisible. The watch was probably a good choice of controller there.
2. 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' featured an episode where an invisible girl was attacking Cordelia, one of the main characters. What caused the girl to turn invisible?

Answer: Nobody noticed her

The title of this episode, 'Out of Mind, Out of Sight', gave a succinct description of what happened to the invisible character. Never noticed by peers or teachers, she literally faded out of sight. With this new found 'power', she unleashed all of her resentment on the popular girl who made her feel bad - Cordelia.

This concept of invisibility through not being noticed was echoed in the seventh season of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' when Buffy, working in the new high school, noticed a girl fading and prevented her from turning invisible.
3. Clara Griffin, an invisible woman, was a recurring character on which science-fiction fantasy show where an expert group offer a haven to people and other creatures, called 'abnormals', who have special abilities?

Answer: Sanctuary

'Sanctuary' actually began as an online show. The popularity of the eight 'webisodes' led the Syfy channel to commission thirteen episodes for air on television. When it was released, it broke the record previously held by 'Eureka' for the number of viewers for an 'original' Syfy show. 'Eureka', 'Alphas' and 'Farscape' are all sci-fi shows which have appeared on the same channel.
4. The character of Daniel Jackson in 'Stargate' was once turned 'invisible' by a crystal skull. Which relative of Daniel's did the SG1 team turn to for help when Daniel apparently went missing?

Answer: His grandfather

The character of Daniel Jackson in 'Stargate' was raised in foster care, after the death of his parents, when his grandfather Nicholas Ballard refused to adopt him. When a crystal skull transported Daniel 'out of phase', making him invisible to his colleagues, the team discovered that his grandfather had described being transported to an alien world after encountering a similar crystal skull in a Mayan temple. They then sought his help in 'locating' Daniel.
5. Which long running television show, featuring two FBI agents investigating apparently paranormal events, aired an episode where they encountered an 'invisible' man in a character called Nathaniel Teager, a Vietnam soldier who went missing in action during the Vietnam War?

Answer: X-Files

The episode of the 'X-Files' which featured Nathaniel Teager was called 'Unrequited'. The soldier, resentful at being abandoned in Vietnam, returned to seek vengeance. His ability to become invisible appeared to depend on his line of sight, with those he was looking at rendered unable to see him.
6. Which British sci-fi show features Simon, a character who has the power to become invisible, as part of a group of young offenders who got supernatural powers after being caught outside during a storm?

Answer: Misfits

'Misfits' was first broadcast in Britain in 2009. Simon, Kelly, Alisha, Nathan and Curtis were all performing community service when they were caught in a spectacular storm which transformed them. The first season revolved around the disappearance of the probation officer who was with them during that storm.
'Life On Mars', 'Primeval' and 'Outcasts' are all British sci-fi television shows.
7. 'Heroes', a television show about a group of people with extraordinary abilities, featured the character of Peter Patrelli who was able to absorb powers from others. From what character did Peter absorb the ability to become invisible?

Answer: Claude Rains

The character of Claude Rains, played by Christopher Eccleston, had an important role in the first season of 'Heroes'. Peter Patrelli encountered Claude and asked him to help him gain control over the abilities he was amassing.
8. In season six of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', the 'evil trio' invented a ray gun which rendered objects in its path invisible. Which of the main characters accidentally got hit and turned invisible?

Answer: Buffy

In this episode, Buffy initially enjoyed the freedom that invisibility gave her and used it for comic effect. However, as the consequences were revealed, she began to fight back. Interestingly, Buffy made a reference to Marcie, the girl who turned invisible in the episode 'Out of Mind, Out of Sight'.
9. In what television show did two brothers, fighting demons, ghosts and other evil entities, encounter an apparently invisible killer when they investigated the death of a college student, in an episode from the first season entitled 'Hook Man'?

Answer: Supernatural

'Supernatural' is based on the premise of two brothers who lost their mother to evil at a young age. Raised by a demon hunting father, the brothers reunited when he went missing and take up his legacy, fighting evil as they search for their father.
'Hook Man' exploited the urban legend of the killer who had a hook instead of a hand. In this episode, Sam and Dean Winchester discovered that the ghost of a serial killer was attacking people connected to a local reverend's daughter.
10. Which character was the only member of the SG1 team not to be accidentally made invisible by an ancient device which had been found in 'Merlin's' cave, in the 'Stargate' episode 'Arthur's Mantle'?

Answer: Teal'c

At the beginning of the episode, Samantha Carter was experimenting with the machine when Cameron Mitchell joined her. A flash of light shot out from the machine, sending the characters 'out of phase' and rendering them invisible. They were unable to reverse the process. In an attempt to locate them, Daniel Jackson was accidentally made invisible too.
Teal'c actually did turn invisible in this episode, however it was by choice, using a cloaking device which could be removed at will.
