Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What happened to Lister's twin sons?

Answer: They were sent to live the parallel universe

We never see Jim and Bexley, but read that they are sent to be with Debs Lister; the same blurb at the beginning of 'Backwards' tells us that Holly has changed into a woman.
2. After seeing a milestone for 'Nodnol', Lister believes he is in which country?

Answer: Bulgaria

'Nodnol' is 'London' in backwards talk; this is before they realise they are on a backwards earth in '3991'
3. Who is said to be an evil person in this universe?

Answer: Santa Claus

He creeps down chimneys and steals the kids' favourite toys. (Adolf Hitler will bring people back to life and 'bog off back to Austria'!)
4. According to Holly, how many black holes are on the horizon?

Answer: 5

Holly has made a mistake - she has seen grit on the screen. After all, space is black, and black hole are black - so how are you supposed to see them?
5. Which Shakespeare play is quoted by Rimmer in 'Marooned'?

Answer: Richard III

Rimmer assumes the hunchback position and then quotes, quite accurately, 'Now - ' and then straightens up and says, 'That's all I can remember.'
6. Confused that 'Mayday' is a distress signal, Rimmer also uses other holiday names to call for help. Which of the following does he use?

Answer: Ascension Sunday

He also uses 'The Fifteenth Wednesday after Pentecost' before Lister explains that 'Mayday' is really the English version of the French for 'help me' (M'aidez).
7. The polymorph causes chaos on board by sucking out emotions. What did it take from Cat?

Answer: vanity

Lister lost his fear, Rimmer lost his anger and Kryten lost his guilt.
8. The polymorph was able to change shape. Which of the following lists hides something which it DID NOT turn into?

Answer: beautiful woman, chicken, Mrs Rimmer

In 'Emohawk - Polymorph II' (series 6) the polymorph turns into a chicken, but not in 'Polymorph' (series 3).
9. Whose mind was given to Lister in order to stop the self-destruct sequence?

Answer: Executive Officer Carole Brown

With barely a minute to spare, her mind was more concerned that she was suddenly a man - but she came through and gave the order to the self-destruct mechanism. What a shame it didn't work . . .
10. How much weight did Rimmer add to Lister's body in the time he was 'getting it into shape'?

Answer: two stone (28 pounds)

He went mad on food as he had not been able to eat as a hologram. He also smoked dozens of cigars, and Lister complained that his lungs felt like they had gone through a cheese grater.
11. An international star made a guest appearance as a television presenter on 'Timeslides' - who was it?

Answer: Ruby Wax

Ruby was Blaize Falconberger, the presenter of a show called 'The Lifestyles of the Disgustingly Rich and Famous' showing how Lister's life was so very different after he 'invented' the Tension Sheet. You may be interested to know that Ruby Wax is married to Ed Bye, who was the director of 'Red Dwarf' at the time.
12. Another famous person made a guest appearance in 'Timeslides'. Who was it?

Answer: Adolf Hitler

Through a mutated photograph, Lister was able to join Hitler at one of his rallies, and warned the German people that he was bad news! In the closing credits, he was cast as appearing as himself.
13. What is the name of the company who supplied Kryten?

Answer: Diva Droid International

Robert Llewellyn played the sales executive of 'Diva Droid International', Jim Reaper, in a video message informing the crew that Kryten's replacement was on his way and that Kryten must be decommissioned immediately.
14. What is the name of the replacement android?

Answer: Hudzen 10

Just as Kryten was named after the butler in 'The Admirable Crichton' (played by Kenneth More), Hudzen was named after the butler in 'Upstairs Downstairs', Hudson (played by Gordon Jackson).
15. How was the replacement android finally defeated?

Answer: Kryten told him there was no silicon heaven.

. . . and Hudzen asked, 'Where would all the calculators go?' Kryten replied, 'Nowhere. They just die.' 'They just - die?' and he is stricken with a metaphysical dichotomy and is forced to shut down. But why did Kryten not die as well? Because he knew he was lying. 'No silicon heaven? Preposterous. Well, where would all the calculators go?'
