Rosco really loved Flash and Flash really hated Boss Hogg. Flash makes her first appearance in the episode 'Enos Strait to the Top', Rosco says he got her from Police Gazette magazine and Flash can smell a crook a mile away. That explains why Flash doesn't like Boss.

2. What actor played Rosco P. Coltrane?

Answer: James Best

If you are ever watching 'The Andy Griffith Show' look for a young James Best playing a character named Jim Lindsey. James Best has been in a lot of movies starting in 1950 with 'One Way Street' and 'Comanche Territory'. I wrote a fan letter to him a while back and he wrote me a very nice letter thanking me.

It was revealed in the episode 'Mrs. Rosco P. Coltrane'. The 'P' in Rosco P. Coltrane wasn't added until the second season.

Most of the time, without thinking, Boss would start to say 'Hello' for him and then get mad and tell him to be quiet. When you watch the first couple of episodes of Dukes you will notice that Boss and Rosco were a little more sinister and a little less funny.

He called him several names, including 'meadow muffin', but ninety nine percent of the time it was 'Dipstick'.

He cried a few times. Once when he Big Jim Downey thought Boss double crossed him and was going to kill Boss, Rosco had to cb the Dukes for help and he was in tears. Also when he thought Boss was dead and he almost cried when he thought the Dukes were dead. I think he cried when Boss took his job away from him too and when Flash was missing. My favorite episode is 'The Ghost of General Lee', (Bo and Luke go skinny dipping!) Rosco gets all choked up when he thinks Bo and Luke drown.

Dick Sargent (the second Darren on 'Bewitched') played Sheriff Grady Byrd for a few episodes in 1980. James Best wasn't happy with his working conditions and such so he quit for a short time (Tom Wopat and John Schneider also quit in 1982-3 and were replaced by 'Vance' and 'Coy').
