Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the episode "Next Time Around", Pete is hypnotised to act like a chicken for ten seconds whenever anybody says which word?

Answer: Now

Linda reads a book on hypnosis and uses it to paralyse Russell the chicken. She tests her skills further on Pete but can't seem to undo the spell, so he is forced to act like a chicken whenever anyone says the word "Now". Once Gribble and his friends find out, they follow Pete around, saying the word constantly. Linda eventually manages to revert him to normal, after hypnotising him again to believe he was a fireman in a former life.
2. In "Copy Cat", where did the magic Cat Hat come from?

Answer: Mongolia

The children find a Mongolian Cat Hat washed up on the beach and realise that when the cat opens its eyes, the person wearing the hat will be forced to mimic whatever the cat sees. Linda decides to use the hat in order to win the Birdman contest. Her plan is successful when the cat opens its eyes and sees a seagull, allowing her to soar around the coast before coming back in to land on the pier. Gribble realises that the hat is to blame for her victory and steals it for himself.

As soon as he puts it on his head, however, the cat opens its eyes and sees Fiona's dog eating a pile of dung...
3. In "Little Squirt", why is the water spirit angry at Bronson?

Answer: She believes he is responsible for building a dam.

Mr Gribble decides to dam the river with a truckload of stones and rocks in order to create an aqua park. The water spirit becomes confused when she sees Bronson throwing small rocks into the river and believes that he is responsible for making the large dam.

After following him around and torturing him for a while, she eventually realises that Mr Gribble is to blame and starts to torment him instead. When Bronson and the other Twists finally convince Mr Gribble to cancel his plans for the aqua park, the water spirit shows Bronson her gratitude by helping him to win a urinating contest.
4. In "Pink Bow Tie", James Gribble, Tiger and Rabbit try to make various people on the boat feel seasick, by gently swaying. Who manages to turn their own trick against them?

Answer: Tony Twist

After making Mr Snapper ill, as well as both Mr and Mrs Gribble, the boys attempt to do the same to Tony. He knows the trick, however, and uses it against them, sending them scurrying to the deck. This episode is told in flashback, as Pete, Gribble, Tiger and Rabbit try to explain to their headmaster why their hair is stood on end.

They tell the story of discovering a machine, stolen by two thieves, which can accelerate or reverse aging. After fighting over the machine, the two thieves accidentally over-age themselves and turn to skeletons, frightening the boys so much that their hair stands on end.

It goes back to normal when the headmaster reverses his aging too much and ends up as a baby.
5. In "Nails", Linda falls in love with Andrew, the new boy in school, only to discover that he is a mer-man. Who does he eventually leave with?

Answer: His mother

Andrew is initially made fun of because he refuses to take off his gloves. It is only when Linda proves he can trust her that he agrees to show her his hands. He has fingernails growing in a row down his fingers and the same problem on his feet. As the episode continues, so do the fingernails, until eventually Linda goes to visit Andrew and finds him in a wheelchair. Far from being upset, he is relieved and tells Linda he finally knows the truth - his mother was a mermaid and he has now turned into a mer-man.

His mother arrives to meet him and they leave together.
6. In "Sloppy Jalopy", Pete believes that the toxic sludge he accidentally fell into has turned him into a magnet for rubbish. What is actually attracting the rubbish?

Answer: His earring

Pete and Gribble are both given an earring each - gold hoops found by a man who lives at the rubbish dump. As soon as Pete puts the earring on, bits of rubbish and garbage start attaching themselves to him. After hearing Gribble is missing, the Twist children head to the dump to meet their father.

When they realise the earring is to blame, they also realise that Gribble's earring must have caused him to be buried underneath a pile of junk.
7. In "Smelly Feat", for how long had Bronson been saving his foot odour?

Answer: Six months

Six months prior to the episode, Bronson overheard Gribble, Tiger and Rabbit talking about a sea turtle who comes to shore every year to lay her eggs and how they were planning to steal and sell her when she arrived in six months' time. In order to defend the turtle, Bronson began to save his foot odour by never washing his feet and never removing his shoes and socks.

Despite the minor setback of accidentally stepping in some water and washing his bare feet, Bronson manages to use his socks to knock out Gribble and his friends, saving the turtle for another year.
8. In "Grandad's Gifts", Nell's grandfather is known for his eyes, which were a particularly vivid shade of which colour?

Answer: Blue

After Linda begins to have dreams about a fox and the lemon tree outside the lighthouse starts to grow fruit at a rapid speed, Nell tells her the story of how her grandfather shot a fox to make a stole for his wife, but when she didn't like it, he buried the fox's entrails and planted the lemon tree on top. Linda finds the stole and feeds it the lemons from the tree, which gradually restore parts of the fox.

When only its eyes are left to restore, the lemon tree is destroyed. Nell tells Linda to give the fox two lemons from another tree, planted on her grandfather's grave, and the fox is finally fully restored, complete with the vivid blue eyes of Nell's grandfather.
9. In "Ice Maiden", which of the following is NOT one of the ice sculptures made by Tony?

Answer: A lighthouse

Tony makes a series of four ice sculptures for the Gribbles, including the Ice Maiden who Bronson falls in love with. Nell is upset when she learns the sculptures are for Gribble's political rallies, as she is running against him, but Tony cheers her up in the end by making sure the bust of Gribble portrays him as a money-grabber.
10. In "Ice Maiden", what is the name of the little girl who Bronson does not want to share his room with?

Answer: Terri

Terri is Bronson, Pete and Linda's cousin, though they don't know her, and she is due to come and stay at the lighthouse for a few days. Bronson initially assumes that Terri is a boy and when he finds out that he is wrong, he is horrified and imagines an awful girl who breaks all the ice sculptures. Eventually, he realises that Terri is the inspiration for the Ice Maiden sculpture, which he has fallen in love with, and decides he is happy to see her after all.
11. In "Yuckles", what happens to the Yuckles after they have turned into a copy of an item?

Answer: They explode

Yuckles are yellow and red toadstools which grow exclusively in the forest in Port Niranda. They are very elusive, so nobody knows about their special abilities - they can turn themselves into an exact duplicate of anything, but only for a short time. Once their time is up, they explode in a shower of yellow slime. Pete, Linda and Bronson set out to find proof of the Yuckles in order to help save the forest from Mr Gribble, who wants to knock it down and build a casino. James Gribble and his friends follow the Twists and try to stop them. They eventually come across a Yuckle disguised as Linda and when they tackle it, it explodes, leading them to believe they have killed her. They return, distraught, just in time to see the real Linda return with photographic evidence of the Yuckles.

This used to be my very favourite episode of "Round The Twist" when I was a child!
12. In "Quivering Heap", Pete gets trapped in a toilet block with a punk ghost. What is the first creature the ghost turns into?

Answer: A rat

The ghost has been stuck haunting the toilets for years, as a punishment for writing graffiti. The ghost is visited by an inspector, who tells him that if he can scare one person that night, he will be promoted to a better location. When Pete ends up trapped in the toilets, the punk ghost tries to scare him by turning into a giant rat, but it fails.

He later successfully scares Pete by turning into a giant snake, but the inspector doesn't see it.
13. In "Quivering Heap", who does the punk ghost take the place of in the school production of "Dracula"?

Answer: Fiona

Pete agrees to help the ghost in return for his help in escaping the toilet. He takes the ghost to the school, where Gribble has successfully taken Pete's lead role in the play. Just as Gribble leans in to bite "Fiona", the beautiful victim, she is revealed to be the ghost, in disguise as an actual vampire.

After terrifying Gribble, Tiger and Rabbit, the ghost then makes their clothes vanish, leaving them humiliated in front of the whole school.
14. In "Little Black Balls", which animal eats the opal Bronson is supposed to be taking care of?

Answer: Goat

Nell entrusts Bronson with a valuable opal and asks him to take it to town and sell it so that she can use the money for her campaign fund. Along the way, he is tricked into buying a goat from Gribble, which promptly eats the opal. Bronson ends up having to sift through all the goat's droppings until he finds the opal.

When it eventually reappears, it is taken by a cockatoo. Resigned to the fact that he has lost the opal, Bronson returns home, only to find the goat's original owner is there and she offers him a reward for the goat.

He gives Nell the reward money and shortly afterwards the cockatoo lands nearby, leaving the opal.
15. In "Seeing The Light", we finally learn the story of Matthew and Jeremiah, the two ghosts who have been seen haunting the lighthouse all series. What is the name of Matthew's long lost love?

Answer: Jane

Matthew and Jeremiah were brothers who manned the lighthouse. One night, Matthew fell asleep and failed to turn on the light during a storm, causing a ship to wreck, killing all the passengers, including his fiance, Jane. Distraught, Matthew killed himself by jumping from the lighthouse. On the 100th anniversary, a similar storm hits Port Niranda, prompting Matthew and Jeremiah to possess the bodies of the Twists and the Gribbles, in an attempt to turn on the light and guide the ghost of the ship safely to shore.
