When her son was born, Carter got her moved to a desk job because she didn't want to work in the field, with it being more dangerous. Carter took the heat for having her transferred so that she didn't lose face with the other officers.

Lee had no female superiors in Hong Kong. He adapted well enough to having a female superior, but he had a rough time at first. The other options were not issues in the pilot episode. Capt. Lyndsey Cole was the first superior he ever lied to.

Carter kept insisting he was the braver of the two, but also admitted to being scared to go into the mall. Lee told him that he too had been scared once in his life, when he was a small child.

Carter was shot in the leg, and ended up with six stitches. Lee was shot in the shoulder and the leg. Lee told Carter that "clearly" it was more painful to be shot once. That was a continuation on the earlier discussion of which of them was more brave.

When the duo had met up with Carter's cousin Gerald earlier in the episode, Lee promised to return and arrest him as soon as he was able. When he received his badge at the end of the episode, he told Carter he was going to arrest Gerald and walked out of the station. Carter followed him to try and stop him as the credits rolled.

By the time the second episode picked up, viewers learned that Gerald had not been arrested, yet.
