Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. For this new series, a completely new theme song was developed that included none of the original music or lyrics. (Not a single word was the same.)

Answer: False

False. "The News Class" used the same theme song, the same musical cues and mostly the same sets that "Saved by the Bell" had used. They just switched out most of the cast.

The clue in the question was that not a single word was reused, that would have been very hard with so many common words used.

The show cold opened on the theme song, not quite letting viewers know it was different from the other version.
2. What event was advertised in the hallway on the first day of school?

Answer: Welcome back dance

There were several flyers in the hall and a giant banner above the lockers. Several students congregated near the signs. Scott was trying to find a date for it in the first few scenes.
3. From what school did Scott transfer?

Answer: Valley

Valley was the long-established school rival in the original series of the show. Making the star of the new series a transfer student from there set up some instant conflict with some of the Bayside students.
4. Who was the English teacher, who returned from the original series?

Answer: Mrs. Simpson

Morris, Powers, and Kapowski were the last names of the characters from the original series. Mrs. Simpson was the hard of hearing English teacher. Scott, Weasel, and a few other characters were in her first hour English class. There was a scene where she asked each student what they read over the summer and she misheard each of them.
5. What did Mr. Belding lose over the summer?

Answer: Six pounds

Belding, played by Richard Haskins, asked his "top student" if she noticed anything different about him. Finally he told her that he had lost 6 pounds. She said it could have fooled her, and he looked upset.
6. Scott convinced Mr. Belding to hold a "date lottery."

Answer: True

He convinced Belding that finding their own dates caused stress among the students and to use the computer to hold a date lottery. Weasel then hacked Belding's computer and paired up who he wanted to.
7. Who did Scott end up on a date with?

Answer: Lindsay

Lindsay Warner was the "hottest" girl in school, but was dating Tommy. Tommy was jealous of the pairing. Scott had picked her out as a potential date from the first day of school.
8. Who did Weasel have a crush on?

Answer: Megan

Megan was the object of his affections, but she barely had the time of day for him. He fixed himself up with her during the computer lottery. She seemed to dislike everything about him.
9. How much money did Scott make off his scheme?

Answer: $400

At $20 per date, he sold $400 worth to the nerds of the school. They were each matched up with the date of their choice in the lottery. Mr. Belding told Scott that he earned $400 worth of detention for the prank.
10. Who played Scott in the pilot?

Answer: Robert Telfer

Telfer played Scott, the Valley transfer and Zach Morris clone for the first season of "Saved by the Bell: The New Class". Eventually he was written out of the show as it tried to distance itself from the original series.

The show ran 7 seasons from 1993-2000 in its original run.

Telfer appeared in the movie "Dutch" prior to his role on the show, but didn't take another acting role for more than 20 years after he was let go from "The New Class".
