quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the season 5 finale "The Gift," what does Spike promise to do?

Answer: protect Dawn

"To the end of the world, even if that happens to be tonight." Buffy always says that she doesn't trust Spike, but she obviously does enough to put Dawn's life in his hands.
2. In "Prophecy Girl" something important happens to Buffy that, oddly enough, happens to her more than once as the seasons go by. What is it?

Answer: she dies

Buffy does die at the end of "Prophecy Girl" but is brought back by Xander via CPR. Angel couldn't do anything for her because he doesn't have breath. She also dies at the end of season 5 and almost dies again in season 6 when Warren shoots her, but Willow removes the bullet and heals her.
3. What happened in the season two episode "Surprise" and what was its consequence that changed everything?

Answer: Buffy and Angel had sex; Angel lost his soul

In the episode "Surprise" Buffy and Angel have sex. He loses his soul because, as we find out in the following episode "Innocence," the gypsies that cursed him with a soul made a clause that said if he had one moment of true happiness, he would lose his soul.

This has wide reaching consequences: Angelus kills Jenny Calendar; Spike teams w/Buffy which eventually leads to him losing Dru and getting his own soul back; Buffy kills Angel (who just got back his soul) and, after he returns from hell, realizes he can't be around Buffy and moves to LA (where he teams up with Wesley and Cordelia of all people); Buffy's mom ends up discovering Buffy's secret because of this. That's just to name a few.
4. In "Becoming, Part 2," Buffy says a sentence from Angel's past. Who, in the past, said to him "Close your eyes."

Answer: Darla

In one of the saddest moments on the show, Buffy prepares herself to kill the newly restored Angel. She kisses him and then tells him to close his eyes. Ironically enough, this is the same sentence Darla said to Angel before she turned him into a vampire. Liam, by the way, was Angel's name before he became a vampire.
5. One of the saddest "Buffy" episodes was season five's "The Body." What was unique about this episode?

Answer: no background music in present time

Anyone doubting the acting ability of the cast from "Buffy" just needs to watch this episode. Background music is usually used to add emotional appeal to an episode, to make the audience feel what the characters are feeling. Lack of background music means all emotional appeal comes from the actors and it feels more real to the audience.

The events are surreal and harsh, as would be in real life. One look at Buffy's face when she calls her mother "the body" is more emotion-packed than any music could make it.

There was a bit of music heard gently in the Christmas flashback that Joss had show over the credits.
6. "The Wish" introduces which key character?

Answer: Anya

Xander's infidelity brings the vengeance demon Anyanka who grants Cordelia's wish that Buffy had never come to Sunnydale. After Giles destroys Anya necklace, she becomes human and ends up dating Xander herself (and then becoming a demon again after he leaves her at the altar).
7. In "The Wish," Buffy is fighting forces in which city?

Answer: Cleveland

Hooray Ohio! "Yes, I am well aware that there are demonic forces in Cleveland." One of my favorite "Buffy" quotes.
8. "Gingerbread" brings forward the truth behind which fairy tale?

Answer: "Hansel and Gretel"

"We need to save Buffy from Hansel and Gretel." "Fairy tales are real." This episode was hysterical! A demon makes itself appear as two murdered children to start a witch hunt. Not very funny without the fairy tale twist. Also an important episode because of Amy.

This is where she turns herself into a rat, which she remains until season 6. Although, after her little spell on Willow in season 7, I think Willow should have just left her as a rat.
9. Vamp Willow reveals what future detail about Willow in "Doppelgangland?"

Answer: she's gay

"I think I'm kinda gay!" Willow says after Vamp Willow licks her neck. Kinda foreshadowing there, don't you think? This episode is just one where Alyson Hannigan shows what a great actress she is. Other answers: Vamp Willow is a dominatrix (and Willow isn't - as far as we know); duh Willow's a witch, but that's not part of Vamp Willow's thing; Willow shows no indication in this episode that she will eventually become a murderer.

In fact, Willow shows mercy for her vampire self by sending her back to her world instead of staking her. Long way from mercy for a vampire to skinning a human alive.
10. What information does Buffy learn about her mother in the season three episode "Earshot?"

Answer: Joyce had sex with Giles

"You had sex with Giles on the hood of a police car?!? TWICE?!" This was a great episode for many moments, but this line made me laugh almost as hard as at the end when Giles walked into the tree. This episode was aired out of order on September 21st.

It had originally been scheduled for a spring air date, but since the Scoobies thought someone was going to shoot students (remember in 1999, school shootings were, to quote Cordelia "bordering on trendy") the WB was already being cautious. Then, April 20th came along and Columbine gave new meaning to "school shooting" and the WB decided that shelving the episode for a later air date would be a good idea. (A similar reason was given for the change in air date for "Graduation, Part 2" from the end of season Three in May to July 18th)
11. Season three episode "The Prom" connects to which later "Buffy" villain?

Answer: Andrew

Poor Andrew! No one remembers who he is. He's just Tucker's brother. Tucker loosed the hellhounds on the prom in this episode. Andrew joins with Warren (robot boy from "I Was Made to Love You") and Jonathan (various "Buffy" episodes including "Earshot" and "Superstar") in season 6. Oddly enough, he's the only one who survives to season 7. "The Prom" is also totally heartbreaking when Angel breaks up with Buffy.

Her line "I can't breath" to Willow made me cry! Trivia Bit: Billy "Ford" Fordham was played by Jason Behr who has been in two other WB/UPN shows: "Dawson's Creek" as the obnoxious Chris Wolfe and "Roswell" as main character, alien king and hopelessly romantic Max Evans.
12. The season 7 episode "First Date" is important because it reveals important information about the new SDH principal. What is so important about him?

Answer: his mother was the slayer Spike killed in New York

I guessed who killed his mother as soon as he said his mother was a Slayer. Who would have thought Joss Whedon would have gone back to that? Trivia Bit: that's the slayer from whom Spike took his leather jacket. (Remember the Billy Idol phase?)
13. What is Oz's costume in the season Four episode "Fear, Itself?"

Answer: God

Bringing up the episode "Halloween" where Ethan Rayne turned everyone into their costumes, Xander decided to be prepared, but Oz was better prepared as he wore a name tag that simply said "God." The end of this episode with the tiny fear demon was probably one of the funniest moments on "Buffy." I could watch that ending over and over.

Other answers: James Bond was Xander's costume in "Fear, Itself" while he turned into Soldier Boy in "Halloween" (often referred back to when the Scoobies need military info). Oz is a werewolf, so I don't think he needs a costume for that.
14. What does Xander called Buffy in the season four episode "Beer Bad?"

Answer: cave slayer

Definitely one of my top ten "Buffy" episodes! Good anti-drinking message and absolutely hysterical. Another one that I could repeatedly watch. "Don't make Cave Slayer unhappy." Parker got exactly what he deserved! Rejected by Willow and then hit on the head several times.
15. What song did Buffy want at her and Spike's wedding in season four's "Something Blue?"

Answer: "Wind Beneath My Wings"

After Willow's spell goes wiggy, Buffy and Spike get engaged and share their first kiss. Once the spell is broken, Spike reveals the song Buffy wanted as their first dance. She then claims that it was the spell's influence.
16. What made "Hush" a unique episode?

Answer: lack of dialogue through much of the episode

Joss Whedon, et al. received an Emmy nomination for this episode and it was well-deserved. "Hush" had either 24 minutes with or without dialogue. "Buffy" actors are awesome! They don't need to speak to do a wonderful job, as this episode proved.
17. Season 7 also takes us back a few seasons in "The Killer In Me" when Buffy contacts who about Spike's malfunctioning chip?

Answer: Riley

Spike's chip kept triggering violent electric shocks, which may have caused his head to explode. No head, no vampire. But most likely, Buffy was just worried Spike would have a brutal existence and he did not deserve it. Buffy used a tapped phone to get word to Riley.
18. In the musical episode "Once More With Feeling," Anya recalls a specific event from Xander's past regarding a disease afflicting certain body parts. What episode is this from?

Answer: "Pangs"

"Pangs" was the Thanksgiving episode where angry Native American spirits gave Xander various diseases, including syphilis. Specifically, the Chumash tribe: "His penis got diseases from the Chumash tribe" as sung by Anya in "I'll Never Tell." Trivia Bit: This episode set up one of the saddest episodes ever.

It was an "Angel" crossover where Angel became human but asked to be restored to his former self. Their lives where not their own. They belonged to the world, as champions. Angel would remember, but Buffy would forget.

She did forget, but Angel told Doyle who then told Cordelia.
19. In season six's "Tabula Rasa" which character makes fun of Giles for being English?

Answer: Spike

So funny! Spike mocks Giles then says a few British words and realizes that he's also British. (More funny for me because my pastor's British.)
20. In "Normal Again," how many years does the doctor say that Buffy's been in the mental hospital?

Answer: 6

What a mind-blowing episode! I thought it was interesting that Buffy said she'd been in an institution just after finding out she was the Slayer.
21. In the season six finale, which Scooby is NOT in Sunnydale (or its neighboring areas) when Willow tries to end the world?

Answer: Spike

Dawn and Buffy are fighting in a hole. Xander is stopping Willow from destroying the world. Giles is dying on the floor of the Magic Box. But, Spike is in Africa, in some unnamed country, going through trials to get his soul back.
22. In season six's "Smashed," Willow changed Amy to human form. When Buffy asks Amy how she's been, Amy replies "Rat. You?" What is Buffy's reply?

Answer: "Dead."

Funny exchange. Buffy uses that a lot. "Once More With Feeling" - "Hey, I died twice." and "As You Were." - to Riley: "Did you die?" Riley: "No." Buffy: "I win".
23. In "New Moon Rising" who is the first of the group to find out that Willow is gay?

Answer: Buffy

At first, Buffy thinks that Willow and Oz are going to get back together. Then she thinks something's up because Tara likes Oz. Then, she realizes what's going on and the look on her face is priceless.
24. In "Who Are You" what does Faith (inside Buffy's body) say that has only been implied before?

Answer: Willow's gay

Funny that Faith would be the first one to actually know that Tara and Willow are a couple. She makes the comments that Willow isn't "driving stick" which is the first spoken admission of Willow's relationship with Tara being a romantic one on both sides.
25. Which "Buffy" episode was originally supposed to be the series finale?

Answer: "The Gift"

If you watch previews for "The Gift" as they were aired on the WB, they say "series finale." This was because the WB decided not to renew "Buffy." Thankfully, UPN picked it up and gave us two more wonderful years, including some of the best shows yet. "Buffy" will indeed be missed for its excellent writing, superb acting and wonderful characters.
