Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The "Susie and Chloe" theme song from "Motherhood" and countless other times is what classic Beatles song?

Answer: "Blackbird"

This song is sang when Chloe gives birth to baby Susie and is sung over and over again afterwards. The episode title "Take These Broken Wings", in which Susan goes to therapy after her loss of Susie, is taken from the lyrics in the song.
2. When the Japanese surgeon Okida goes out to a karaoke bar with Anspaugh and Carter, what Fats Domino song do they sing?

Answer: "My Blue Heaven"

I don't think we will ever see a scene like that ever again. Okida, Carter, and Anspaugh do karaoke - priceless. (Earlier in the episode, Carter had foiled Dr. Edson's plans to perform a once-in-a-lifetime surgery with the two elder surgeons. Carter proved victorious, however, and was invited out for drinks while Dale was left to do scut work).
3. A very cute Carter moment comes in season 3 when Carter gets to assist in Benton's appendicitis. What is the name of "Carter's Special Music" that plays when he FIRST starts the operation?

Answer: "The Ride of the Valkyries"

He asks Shirley to put on his "special music", takes a few pictures, then begins the operation while clearly enjoying himself! Yes, "Mack the Knife" does eventually play, but "The Ride of the Valkyries" starts everything off.
4. The "unofficial Scott and Jeannie" theme song from season 4 is...?

Answer: "Time of Your Life" - Greenday

This song is sung a number of times, including by Jeannie while getting ready for Scott's funeral.
5. The Santana song played on Lucy's first and last days is...?

Answer: "Samba Pa Ti"

This song, which I have been informed was a very popular slow dance back in the day, is played at the end of Lucy's crazy first day in the ER, and in her last.
6. What John Coltrane piece does Peter have Reese listen to to test his hearing in "Split Second"?

Answer: "Equinox"

Peter turns it on in his apartment and tries to get Reese to listen to it, but there's no reaction. He then knows that he'll have to test Reese's hearing because he's most likely deaf (which he turns out to be).
7. On Thanksgiving, when Carol gives birth, what song plays when she gets up and ready in the morning?

Answer: "Wondering Where the Lions Are" - Bruce Cockburn

It's a really neat song to start the episode off with. Its banjo and country beat gives it an almost comical feel. In case you're wondering, "Precious" appears in the pilot, "Desperately Wanting" appears in "Make a Wish", and "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered" appears in "Ghosts".
8. David Greene sure belts out a tune at the karaoke bar he, Mark, Elizabeth, and Isabel (Corday) go to in "Be Still My Heart". Which song eventually sung by "Old Blue Eyes" does the man before David sing?

Answer: "My Kind of Town"

He sure does a great job! Then David sings "They Called the Wind Mariah" and he's followed by Mark and Elizabeth singing "Piano Man". (They were awful!) Thank God their pagers beeped and they had to stop, but we do all know why their pagers rang :(.
9. The infamous song played in "Be Still My Heart", during Carter's brutal stabbing is "Battleflag" by the LoFidelity All-Stars. In what episode is this song played again?

Answer: Season Eight's "Beyond Repair"

When Carter unfortunately sees Paul Sobricki, he's immediately disturbed. They exchange a few words, then Carter turns around and walks away towards the men's room while "Battleflag" blares in the background.
10. At the beginning of "Such Sweet Sorrow", Carol, Carter, and Abby all wake up to various states of loneliness and sorrow. What song is playing during this?

Answer: "Letting the Cables Sleep" - Bush

I love this song and I really thought that it was really used to great effect to depict the sadness and longing in these people's lives. Carol, struggling with the twins, Carter, still depressed over the stabbing, and Abby, trying to adjust to her crazy life in the ER.
11. At the end of "Such Sweet Sorrow" when Carol leaves the ER to be with Doug, what song is played (that is absolutely perfect for the episode)?

Answer: "Taking You Home" - Don Henley

It's a great choice for the closing sequence! Carol flies to Seattle to be with Doug and they unite and live happily every after!
12. The "unofficial Carter and Abby theme song" played during "Thy Will Be Done" (when they go dancing) and "Sailing Away" (the road trip to Oklahoma) is what song?

Answer: "Hanging By a Moment" - Lifehouse

So far it's been played at all the crucial "Carby" (Carter and Abby) moments. Carter fell in love with her that night they went dancing, and she fell in love with him when he went with her to Oklahoma. I'm just waiting for it to be played when they finally get engaged and married!
13. After Brian hits Abby, Luka wants revenge in the awesome season eight "A Simple Twist of Fate". What Five for Fighting song is playing in the backgound when Luka beats up Brian in the bar?

Answer: "Easy Tonight"

I already loved this song, so when it appeared in an episode, I was very happy! Luka had heard earlier in the day the name of the bar Brian liked to go to, so after he got off from work and had seen to Abby, he scouted out Brian, beat him up, and threatened to kill him if he ever goes near Abby again. One of the classic "old Luka" scenes.
14. Which Norah Jones song plays at the end of "Tell Me Where it Hurts" when Luka is with the hooker, Susan is home alone, and Abby is waiting for Carter to come home?

Answer: "Shoot the Moon"

This song introduced me into the world of Norah Jones. I love her music and it really was used to great extent in this episode. I especially love the exchange between Carter and Abby at the end. After Abby says that Eric was the only constant thing in her life: Carter: "That's not true anymore."
Abby: "Promise? Cause I really need something to hold onto right now."
Carter: "I'm not going anywhere."
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww!
15. Hard one. In "A Thousand Cranes", what is the song playing in the background in the restaurant when Carter is going to propose to Abby, then changes his mind?

Answer: "Claire du Lune" - Debussy

Carter doesn't propose :(, but we do get a good song out of the deal. "Adagio Cantabile" was played in "Next of Kin" in the psychiatric facility Abby, Eric, and Maggie visited. "Bach Suite No. 1" was actually performed by YoYo Ma in a good "West Wing" episode I saw once (Josh is having problems recovering from the shooting), and "Pacabel's Canon" is a song that I like which is usually played at weddings! :) At least I'm hopeful!
