The turkey survives so Winston goes to a butcher, who is about to kill it when Winston stops him. Winston then says that naming him Albert was the worst mistake he could make.

He was given a list of people to send a Christmas card to by his wife, who told him to get first class stamps and 500 cards. Tam doesn't like spending money so he gets 500 card from his loft, many of which are birthday and get well soon cards. Tam modifies them, and delivers 9 cards. He throws the others in the river.

According to Jack, the presents for the men are always beer or another type of alcohol. The people who go to the community centre get a Christmas dinner.

Jack, Victor, Winston and Isa were trapped in the lift at Osprey Heights. They were trapped in the lift from the night of New Year's Eve until the early morning of New Year. While in the lift, the pensioners dwell on the only other time that the lift in Osprey heights broke.

Betty was the wife of his best friend, Victor, and Jack was sick because he ate too much pakora. When Victor saw that Jack had been sick on his wife, he started to fight Jack, wrecking the living room, before the fight was broken up.

When Tam arrives at the party, nobody greets him, as they are paying lots of attention to Erin. Isa's husband, Harry, flirts with Erin, who reveals she is a nanny. Isa gets annoyed so she starts flirting with Tam.

Shug had worked out at what time the jackpot would be won. Around the time that the jackpot should be won, there was a choir in the back room, who would use the fruit machine. To keep the choir in the back room, Jack and Victor turned on an air-conditioning machine.

It had not been used for twenty years, so it was full of dust, and everyone had to evacuate the pub. While everyone else was outside, Edith put the money in the fruit machine and won the jackpot.

Winston was the lollypop man at Willow Park Academy as he was helping his friend Charlie. When the lollypop man at Parkmill Secondary School heard that their was a substitute at Willow Park Academy, he stood next to Winston, and tells him to go to Parkmill Secondary School or he will get Charlie sacked.

The reason the other man wants to be a lollypop man at Willow Park is because at Christmas, the pupils give the lollypop man a present. When Winston goes to Parkmill Secondary School he sees that the pupils don't get anything for Christmas, so he gives them all a Mars Bar.

He is unable to use it, as he is in a wheelchair. He lets Winston, Tam, Jack and Victor go and stay there over New Year. Winston doesn't want to go at first, but when he hears that the alternative is to stay in Craiglang over New Year with Isa, he changes his mind. While in Tighnahulish, Jack and Victor insult the locals and get thrown out of the pub three times.

Normally in Craiglang, all the residents go to Tam's house for New Year, but Tam is in Tighnahulish, and Frances is looking after their baby son. While at Navid's house Isa and Eric are very bored, as Navid doesn't switch on his television. When he does switch it on, he sees his wife dancing with another man in India and he picks the television up and throws it on the ground.
