Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which midwestern state can the discerning TV viewer find Fort Courage, the setting of "F Troop"?

Answer: Kansas

Though "F Troop" lasted only two years on ABC (1965-67), it has enjoyed success in syndication and as part of Nick-at-Nite's old-school TV lineups.
2. On the TV series "Martin", Martin Payne's best friend, Tommy Strong (Thomas Mikal Ford), was constantly teased about what?

Answer: Not having a job

A running joke during the successful Fox TV series, Tommy always claimed to have a job, but no one knew exactly what it was. He was always interrupted before he could even tell what it was. If anyone out there knows what job Tommy did, let me know, and I'll include it here.
3. Which real-life freeway was the site of a fictional multi-car crash in a 1976 made-for-TV disaster movie?

Answer: Interstate 5

Much like its theatrical counterparts, "Smash-Up On Interstate 5" featured a who's-who of Hollywood, including Robert Conrad, Buddy Ebsen, and Vera Miles. Also on hand were future "Men In Black" star Tommy Lee Jones, former Vikings quarterback Joe Kapp, and the voice of George Jetson, George O'Hanlon, Jr. (Thanks to the Internet Movie Database for cast information on this movie.)
4. In what city was the CBS sitcom "Kate and Allie" set?

Answer: New York

Running for five seasons on CBS (1984-89), "Kate and Allie" was not only set in New York, it was also taped there. Jane Curtin and Susan St. James starred as two divorced pals who find comfort and strength in each other and their children.
5. Which celebrity provided the voice of Mark, the leader of G-Force, on the animated series "Battle of the Planets"?

Answer: Casey Kasem

All of the celebrities here lent their voices to the American version of the Japanese series "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman". Casey Kasem did Mark, but is much better known for doing Shaggy on "Scooby-Doo". Comedian Ronnie Schell (Duke Slater on "Gomer Pyle, USMC") was Jason, the second in command. Alan Young (Wilbur Post on "Mister Ed") was 7-Zark-7, the team's command robot, and Keyop, G-Force's youngest member. Janet Waldo (the voice of Judy Jetson) was Princess. And Keye Luke, best known for his work in the "Charlie Chan" movies, did triple duty as Tiny, G-Force's pilot; Zoltar and Colonel Cronus, G-Force's main enemies.
6. Which actor played Jamie King's (Jamie Foxx's) uncle, Junior King, on "The Jamie Foxx Show"?

Answer: Garrett Morris

An original cast member on "Saturday Night Live", Garrett Morris was also featured during the first season of "Martin" as Martin Payne's tightwad boss, Stan Winters. He also appeared as streetwise informant Sporty James on the crime drama "Hunter".
7. On the 34th episode of "The Wayans Bros." entitled "New Lease on Life" (first aired May 1, 1996), Marlon Williams (Marlon Wayans) finds himself being seduced by the sexy Mrs. Niedermeyer, the wife of the man who owns the building his newsstand is located in. Which actress makes the guest appearance as Mrs. Niedermeyer?

Answer: Adrienne Barbeau

Though she played up to the bombshell image in the movies, Adrienne Barbeau will forever be linked to the more sedate role of Carol Trainor, Maude Findlay's divorced daughter, on the CBS series "Maude". She was also a regular on the various incarnations of "The Pyramid". (Thanks to TV Tome.com for the information on "The Wayans Bros." episode.)
8. In the made-for-TV movie "The Homecoming: A Christmas Story", there were actually eight children in the Walton family.

Answer: False

There was a character named Claudie Dooley in 'The Homecoming'. He was the son of Hawthorne Dooley, who was played by the late Cleavon Little. Actor David Livingston played Claudie.
9. Staying with "The Homecoming", which four actors played the mother, father, grandmother and grandfather of the Walton clan?

Answer: Patricia Neal, Andrew Duggan, Ellen Corby and Edgar Bergen

Only Ellen Corby was on board for both "The Homecoming" and "The Waltons". Neal, Duggan and Bergen were on hand for the TV movie, and were replaced by Learned, Waite and Geer in the TV series.
10. For four seasons on "Family Matters", Eddie (Darius McCrary) and Laura Winslow (Kellie Williams) had a little sister. What was her name?

Answer: Judy

Played by Valerie Jones in the pilot episode, the character of Judy Winslow was played by Jaimee Foxworth from 1989 until 1993. The producers of "Family Matters", wanting to focus on the budding Steve Urkel/Laura Winslow relationship and not wanting to meet Foxworth's mother's demands for more money, dropped the character from the show. Foxworth's life tumbled after her stint on "Family Matters".

The money she earned on the show was ultimately used to bail her family out of bankruptcy. She would act in a number of adult movies under the stage name "Crave" before getting out of the business. (Thanks to BET.com for additional information on Jaimee Foxworth.)
11. On the short-lived CBS crime drama "Delvecchio", the title character, Alex Delvecchio (Judd Hirsch) had an unachievable professional goal. What was it?

Answer: To become a lawyer

The running joke on this series, which ran from 1976 to 1977, was that Delvecchio couldn't pass the bar. And he tried at least three times to do so. Interestingly enough, Hirsch's co-stars on the series, Michael Conrad and Charles Haid, would later join a successful cop show, the Emmy-award-winning "Hill Street Blues."
12. On the NBC action drama "Emergency!", paramedics John Gage (Randolph Mantooth) and Roy DeSoto (Kevin Tighe) were stationed at which Los Angeles County fire station?

Answer: Station 51

Producer/creator Jack Webb, who also brought "Dragnet" and "Adam-12" to television, was in an unusual situation when he worked on "Emergency!". His ex-wife, the late Julie London (who played nurse Dixie McCall), was on the show opposite her new husband, the late Bobby Troup (who played Dr. Joe Early).

It didn't affect the show's chemistry, as "Emergency!" enjoyed a five-year run (1972-77) on the network.
13. Which world leader is mentioned by name in the theme song to the '60s-vintage sitcom "Car 54, Where Are You?"?

Answer: Nikita Khruschev

The theme song, written by Nat Hiken, goes like this: "There's a holdup in the Bronx/Brooklyn's broken out in fights/There's a traffic jam in Harlem that's backed up to Jackson Heights/There's a scout troup short a child/Khruschev's due at Idlewild/Car 54, where are you?" Idlewild Airport is now known as John F. Kennedy International Airport.
14. On the ABC/UPN sitcom "The Hughleys", Sherman Hemsley ("The Jeffersons", "Amen") had a recurring role as Yvonne Hughley's (Elise Neal's) pompous father. But who played her equally pompous mother?

Answer: Telma Hopkins

A member of the singing group Tony Orlando & Dawn, Hopkins was a regular on the NBC series "Gimme A Break" (as the late Nell Carter's hometown pal, Addy Wilson) and the ABC series "Family Matters" (as Reginald velJohnson's sister-in-law, Rachel Crawford). Most recently, she's had a recurring role on the Lifetime series "Any Day Now" and is a regular on the UPN series "Half and Half".
15. Which TV executive, while working in CBS's West Coast operations, was responsible for helping put "I Love Lucy" on the air?

Answer: Harry Ackerman

Before creating "The Flying Nun" and serving as executive producer on "Bewitched", Ackerman teamed with CBS president William S. Paley to bring what would become a classic TV show to the airwaves. In fact, during the show's first season, Ackerman, along with "Lucy" writer Jess Oppenheimer, appeared in Episode 6, "The Audition", as a network executive interested in putting Ricky's band on TV. (Thanks to TV Tome.com for information on this episode.)
16. Which network was supposed to broadcast the 1980 Summer Olympics from Moscow?

Answer: NBC

President Carter's decision to boycott the Olympics in 1980 meant that NBC would have to wait eight years before getting a shot at hosting the Olympics. The peacock has become the unofficial American Olympic network, earning the rights to telecast both Summer and Winter Olympics all the way up through 2010.
17. What kind of car would you find detectives Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) and Hutchinson (David Soul) cruising the streets in on the ABC crime drama "Starsky & Hutch"?

Answer: Ford Gran Torino

Die-cast replicas of the famous red-and-white Torino were made by British toy maker Corgi, who also made Kojak's Buick Century sedan.
18. On the NBC sitcom "Night Court", which legendary crooner was Judge Harry Stone's (Harry Anderson's) favorite singer?

Answer: Mel Torme

Nicknamed "The Velvet Fog", Mel Torme made numerous guest appearances on "Night Court" throughout its eight-season run on NBC (1984-1992). He also lent his singing voice to Daffy Duck in another Warner Bros. property, the animated feature "Daffy Duck's Quackbusters". Torme died in 1999.
19. Which "Sesame Street" regular also had a recurring role on the hit TV series "Lou Grant"?

Answer: Emilio Delgado

A member of the "Sesame Street" cast since 1971, Delgado plays Luis on that series. On "Lou Grant", he played reporter/editor Rubin Castillo. Alaina Reed Hall, who played Olivia on "Sesame Street", played Marla Gibbs's neighbor on the NBC sitcom "227".
20. On the '50s-vintage "Superman" series, what major city served as Metropolis?

Answer: Los Angeles

In the motion picture versions of "Superman" from the late 70s and early 80s, New York served as Metropolis. But in the 50s "Superman" series and its more modern cousin "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman", Los Angeles is the star.
